For me nothing wrong with using calculators or chatgbt to improve learning, there will only be an issue when those aids begins to give wrong values, just take a case where two traders are selling their goods same price same quality same place same quantity, trader A uses calculator to hasten his calculations while trader B uses his head to do his own calculations, who do think will sell more? Do you know the queue on trader B will start reducing with time not on a positive side but a negative side because most people don't have the time to wait on queues especially while standing maybe when you offer them seats things may change but how many traders even offers that?? The advantages of this things outshines the disadvantages thats why they exist. |

JAMB should bring back the four-figure table - it boosts mathematics skills. For example , how can you intuitively know that 7/8 equals 0.875 and 1/8 is 0.125; it's from the prolonged use of the four-figure table. The UME is a stepping stone to many fields of endeavour. Please let it be truly competitive. TouchNfollow: |

merrymike47:You can say that again. We naturally evolve as a human but there are fundamental stuffs we should be careful to change holistically. A lot of students and working class alike cannot simply construct a meaningful sentence, memo etc without the help of AI. We made do with matches stick, stones, covers on the bottle for the multiplication exercise back in the elementary school. And that really enhanced our quantitative skills. |

I support this protest. People should learn and understand the basic mathematical concepts before they use calculators. Solving maths without calculators also helps the brain to develop and improves critical thinking abilities |

When you're a trader and can do your calculations off-hand, people respect you and it boosts your business acumen and cognition. It reduces your chances of developing memory loss or dementia. It has been said the the prevalence of dementia is reduced in people who are educated; in corollary, people that know mathematics inclusive. Lexzokomo: |

An elementary school(primary school) student should not be using calculator for simple arithmetic You should be able to do basic addition subtraction and multiplication without calculators |

Tunaji:using aids like calculators doesn't and will never make you lose your memory, you will only lose your memory when you stop doing what you are doing for a long time, we are in a world where competition leads, if you don't support yourself you get kicked out, humans are prone to errors whereas those things are developed such that they give you what you want 100% at every given time, do you think trades which involves millions and billions are traded using solely your brain? Maybe you want to end up sleeping on your desk, well if you believe relying on your brain alone is best for you good for you and I wish you all the best and may you not make an error that will make you regret in future |

Tunaji:Is the four figure table not same as a calculator? The only difference is that the four figure table is manual while that of the calculator is digital, if you punch 2*3 on a calculator and it gives you 6 do you need to punch it a second time to know if it will give you 6 again? No! cause you already know, so which ever way it is you can still learn, we don't need to start using tally method to count before we know we are improving our maths skills |

Na those of us wey write waec for 90s write the real waec. Others na enjoyment. You'd see someone who's so sound in English repeating waec cos of deficiency in English, likewise maths. Combination of results (with 6 credits max in 2 sitting ) was a norm that time and if you had an A in either of the 2 subjects, you be super guru. I remember when my brother obtained a GCE form for me in Ibadan. He said he'd need me to change the environment as a lagos boy. He wanted me to come to Ibadan where he was working. I was in ss2. I left for ibadan to write the gce. When the result was released at the ijokodo waec office, I counted the number of those who passed English at credit level, in the whole of ibadan grammar school center. We were only 12. Others had pass and f9. Today, over 60% would have distinction and credit passes Today, they pass with As in almost all subjects at a sitting. We used our heads in maths calculations, no single calculator used and once you're caught its expulsion straight, from the hall. Our only calculator was the mathematical and statistical table approved by waec. Things became so easy from 2000s till date. I once challenged my son in a math question. He scored B2 in further maths and A1 in maths. The moment I collected calculator from his hands and told him to use his head he said dad no pls . They're so used to it nowadays |

Jman06:That's why you were given the basics from your kg to primary and when you enter the secondary you make use of aids like calculators to support yourself, I started using calculators at my senior classes ss1 to be specific, somebody that doesn't want to improve will never improve even if you take him to the stone ages. |

TheStoriesOfMan:that's how they will be quoting you wrongly did I say introducing them to that at an early age is okay? Funny enough I will even be glad if my child can operate a calculator at kg3 while still knowing the basics, is that not a plus?? Following the trends help more than you think, that's why you will see a 5 year old operating a mobile phone in a manner their parents cannot do even if it takes months of practice for the parents |
