Na those of us wey write waec for 90s write the real waec. Others na enjoyment. You'd see someone who's so sound in English repeating waec cos of deficiency in English, likewise maths. Combination of results (with 6 credits max in 2 sitting ) was a norm that time and if you had an A in either of the 2 subjects, you be super guru. I remember when my brother obtained a GCE form for me in Ibadan. He said he'd need me to change the environment as a lagos boy. He wanted me to come to Ibadan where he was working. I was in ss2. I left for ibadan to write the gce. When the result was released at the ijokodo waec office, I counted the number of those who passed English at credit level, in the whole of ibadan grammar school center. We were only 12. Others had pass and f9. Today, over 60% would had distinction and credit passes

Today, they pass with As in almost all subjects at a sitting. We used our heads in maths calculations, no single calculator used and once you're caught its expulsion straight, from the hall. Our only calculator was the mathematical and statistical table approved by waec.

Things became so easy from 2000s till date. I once challenged my son in a math question. He scored B2 in further maths and A1 in maths. The moment I collected calculator from his hands and told him to use his head he said dad no pls grin. They're so used to it nowadays
I wrote my WAEC in the 90s . I totally agree with you. Most of this gen z can't stand what we did then

So funny that over 95% comments from page 1 to page 2 above are against using AI. Lol. And from my investigation, people who are scared of being pushed out of their jobs are the ones who behave like this, unfortunately, so many people do not want to learn AI when it is clear it is the future. Many people will soon go hungry. Lol.

One even said he used 4-figures-table till only God knows to justify ai should be checked. I laughed seriously. Another one said a study has shown that chatgpt will kill the reasoning of users. I laughed so hard. Just a study that he cannot even give us the link to read and check the details. Lol. And just one research in this short period of time is enough for him to use that as an excuse. Lol. Laziness at work. Lol. Mainwhile, this generation using it is smarter than all the previous. These kids are damn smart. The guy no fit come up with ideas ooo, yet, saying kids using these tools to generate ideas and start fintec, agritech, and so on are less smart. Lol.

Hunger is doing press up presently...the way e go flog most of the earlier posters will be in grand style. Lol

Every new learning tool faces fear before it finds its place. History shows that when technology is introduced after strong basics, it strengthens thinking, it doesn’t replace it.
do you really think that with chatgpt,we can have a Shakespeare?

You wey dey talk can you solve math without use of calculator?

merrymike47:
Truth is, I currently stay in an area where majority teenagers and youth cannot successfully type or construct a simple sentence correctly without the use of google translation. I see them marauding on the street as big boys. Sometimes I laugh, like big boys without sense. Majority without certificate or skills, just yahoo yahoo. Sometimes I want to tell them that it’s not hate but I pity the future of these ones.

Back to the use of calculator at elementary classes, that is literally a bad idea, cos till date, simple arithmetics that I can solve offhand, majority of the high school students today will need a calculator to solve. And it saddens my heart when I see that most of them cannot solve simple arithmetics without the use of calculator. It’s a disaster in disguise when machines have to replace our critical thinking and the use of our common sense.

Their inability to construct simple English sentences does not make them senseless, except if you tie knowledge to English. Those devices were made to speed up calculations. If you prefer suffering, then dont use modern technologies because they all comprise AI

I only occurred to you as defensive because you didn’t show any character of being an intellect at first. Did you understand what you read would have bn a yes or no answer, we can then proceed to what you did not understand or what need to be proven and etc... would you want me to post proofs online or we take a survey by visiting high-schools and coming to my area to see those guys by yourself or how exactly would you want me to prove my points here?
So, so just because some peeps decided to live a soft life, they automatically become yahoo boys?!

Even in accounting, it took time before they accepted their use in class.

Old breed accountants used to work out entries counting the normal way, and they were so good at it that they rarely made mistakes, just the same way accountants today use calculators without making mistakes.

Seriously, I was at a market to buy something last month and asked the attendant the individual costs of items and told her so my total bill is ---.
She didn't know and took out phone to use calculator for basic additions. I had to ask her what class she is and she said SS2. I felt disappointed

in your own understanding, please tell me the meaning and importance of going to school to acquire knowledge. Cos some of you will just come online and be opening mouth waa, taking pride in your ignorance. If your parents sent you to school and payed much for you to acquire knowledge and you have to rely on AI to construct simple sentence, calling it soft life, I am afraid that your parents just wasted their hard earned money on a slowpoke.

Just sad you went off board. It's people with a low level of education who think high IQ is measured by constructing English tenses. I have met your type, and it's very common among Nigerians to think that a good command of English is a measure of intellect. Boy, hope you can speak well when you must speak in a formal gathering, and not thinking yourself as Einstein in your local area. Those boys you think you're better than could be more intelligent than you. Your responses to my query show your level of education. A highly educated person would counter my view with facts, not name-calling and abusive language

inasmuch as I feel your pain, I still will not apologize to you. I’ll only advice that you go back to what I typed earlier and be as calm as possible while reading this time around. Curiosity made me ask, are you a yahoo boy? Cos I don’t understand what exactly your problem is with my quote.

Maybe you review your quote once again, and I'm wondering where Yahoo Boy came in here? Your curiosity lacks logic and falls flat.I thought you said you were more educated than those who couldn't use simple English tenses.
