In Ekiti including Akure it is ubepe /ubekpe/ or ubepe /ubepe/ like the 'p' here is pronounced like the p in police, pawpaw. Thats how its called in my moms village.

It is also known as 'ogolomosi' among older generations in rural Ekiti

It shows you are either Ekiti kete or Ondo …I was bon in Ilawe but indigenous of Ila Orangun

It's not right nah!

Pig farmers back then had more papaya that people were not willing to eat. The pigs enjoyed it even more so it became their favorites hence the name.

If yoruba or a language doesn't have a name for something, it usually means that thing was not part of that culture

Like if u dont have a name for pawpaw, its because there was no pawpaw in your vicinity and u have never seen one... It was introduced into that clime

So u can borrow the name another language calls it or u improvise or agglutinize...

Stop bastadizing Yoruba words! Yoruba don't have "kp" in any word! So, the word is Ibepe, not Ibekpe!
