French Man Of Nigerian Origin Disappointed After First Visit To Nigeria by BlackViper(op): 1:10pm On Jan 16
Hi,

I’m a 28 year old Man from Paris (born there) with both my parents being Igbo and Yoruba. I’ve never visited Nigeria until now, my mom successfully pulled me in the country and so far I’m just living a nightmare.

I’ve been to Lagos, Abuja and Owerri (her birth place) and I neither feel safe or welcomed. Guys usually try to scam me when they realise I’m a complete stranger and every single interaction I had with a woman around my age revolves around my salary (Around 5000€ per month, or a bit below 9M nairas) and everything I could do to support/ help her family. I even had a girl begging me to marry her, I didn’t knew her name ?

Everything about the things I saw seems fake, people are doing crazy things to survive, I saw guys beating another one for his watch, and 2 folks siphoning fuel from a car while the occupants went outside to do some shopping, but the experiences I had with women’s out there in 6 days shocked me to the core. I saw what true greed was and how their whole behaviours changed immediately when they heard my accent and from where I came from. In owerri a girl tried to Sexually Assault me with her older sister, like what the hell ?

I don’t think I’m returning ever again, but do you have any ideas on how I can at the very least enjoy a bit of my remaining journey ? I still have 5 days there. I’m returning to Lagos next morning and will stay until Monday.

Assuming the narration is even the real and factual experience of a human being.

The issue is that most of us, because we are not in the category, don't understand the volume of warped mischief-makers out their online telling lies, spreading fake news and fabricating lies out of thin air in an attempt to work an angle or seek followers/likes/retweets etc

Every so called "real life narrative" online should be taking with a pinch of salt. If true though, then the guy is indeed an irritating nag. You'd have thought it's a 12 year old writing from his tone.

He visited Lagos and Abuja in addition to Owerri and his disappointment is clearly nationwide because he doesn't want to visit Nigeria again.

It reminds me of the Noraly experience. You'll remember Noraly was the biker who was travelling across Nigeria until she met our lovely police force who attempted to demand a bribe from her, not knowing that her Go Pro camera was recording and streaming the entire encounter in 4k and thousands were watching it live across the world.

If you're just a regular foreigner and you're not a well known celebrity or a well known social media influencer, these are the kinds of experiences you're likely to run into if you visit Nigeria.

If it's true, is it not odd than a 28 year old whines and complain so much?

He may just be a grade A brat and maybe one of those nerdy type afraid to be out and mingling since many like him came to Nigeria and had a great time here with some even thinking of relocating.
Re: French Man Of Nigerian Origin Disappointed After First Visit To Nigeria by DiamondsAreFore: 1:48pm On Jan 16
What is "SO MUCH" about his complaint? And who exactly is thinking of relocating to a country with such a high insecurity profile? Are you talking about the clout chasing influencers on social media? Many of those ones quietly leave after some time.
Their exit is usually not as loud as their arrival which is probably why you don't hear much about it.

Leave babes and interact more with business people. Even little children are already business minded in Igboland. They will not hesitate to scam the hell out of anybody so that they can get capital and start up their business so better act like a sharp guy while you’re there lol

For example you can get cocoa there because I heard that French people love chocolate. Or buy land and build a hotel or block of apartments.

Bro, assuming the narrative is real, then dude is capping or a weirdo. You're 28 and black (since parents are Yoruba and Igbo) and you're wimpering like a little girl when we see even oyinbos here mingling, partying and having a blast etc.

My 18 year old nephew ( my elder sister's son) was in Nigeria in December. UK born and bred. The days he stayed with me, young bro was out on his own, with only my driver, always and getting into exclusive clubs and Parties with his other friends who were here also. He even linked a couple of ladies on his own yet grown man of 28 is grumbling like he wants to hide behind his mum or needs breast milk.

If this guy is real then there is something 'off' about him.

Per bolded in your post, many have made the move bro. Speak for yourself and your own mindset that a lot of Nigerians do not share.

Same Nigeria you are demarketing and advocating everyone flee from is the same nation the Lebanese, Chinese, Indians etal are trooping into daily to take advantage of opportunities on ground.

Anyway, make all of Una Japa. More opportunities for the rest of us who are visionary and don't mind a challenge.

You will all come back when Nigeria has been carved up with nothing left. Like the over-saturated West where they now wish you lot stay back in your nation and fix it instead of complaining and trying to enter their nation.

The particular area you visit matters a lot. A visitor on holiday in places like Ikoyi, Lekki, Maitama or Asokoro will likely have a different experience to the one in Owerri.

.. next time you plan to visit Nigeria, choose your destination wisely.

Come to Lagos, you'd be glad you did
Re: French Man Of Nigerian Origin Disappointed After First Visit To Nigeria by SmartPolician:
Honestly, Lagos is a big disgrace. It's even more annoying that most people who visit Nigeria pass through it and never go beyond it. LASG needs to start massive urban renewal to give the entire state a facelift.

As for the guy's experience, who doesn't know that most Nigerians are criminals, opportunists and hypocrites? 99.9% fall into one or more categories.

I always laugh when Nigerians say we are good people.
We are far from it....

We are the worst I have seen when it comes to welcoming strangers, everyone is after himself.
Anyone assisting you is doing so because of what they can get not out of will....

Is it an Igbo man who doesn't like the Hausa that will treat a foreigner with love?

Most of this is embedded in the poverty that reigns in the country.
Everyone is looking for what to milk and make a daily bread out of the other.

We can do better as a country.
