If you want to truly experience Nigeria then the least that you could do is learn how to be a Nigerian, because, as it stands, you are a Nigerian only on paper. You speak carrying a strange foreign accent and you are surprised that they modify their behavior around you, try to scam you? My advice to you? Don't jump into the ocean without learning how to swim first. Observe your environment without becoming subsumed in it. Gradually, learn how to speak, how to behave. Only when you've accomplished all this can you begin to interact with Nigerians on a sincere platform and not the eye-service that you were shown in this trip.

I visited Port Harcourt for the first time (we escorted a bride), and hmmm, see elders begging people they are just meeting for the first time for financial support! Well, I think it's just borne of our communal culture. I prefer it to the tipping culture we have in "saner climes"!
Begging random strangers better than tipping for services rendered? You sir are flowing with so much wisdom from the typical Nigerian mindset that has made us the envy of the world.

In Nigeria, we don't fear hell fire anymore because we're already it. Better leave quick b4 they arrange for your chitnap.

That just shows you how greedy Nigerians are, nothing fascinating about that country. A friend traveled to naija last year from US hoping to go enjoy naija, I was surprised when she called me and told me she cut her journey short seeing how everyone was behaving like criminals.

He’s just very stupid don’t mind that wack ass who told him he’s from France make him do anyhow for France and see how France go send am back to Nigeria una think say oyinbo people Mumu you green card don’t determine them not sending you back to your parents origin if you do anyhow. The only safe way is when if someone mom or dad is from their side that’s when someone is safe not when you both parents are from other country.
Ablesam171:

So this ewu Gambia came to Nigeria and he couldn't find one good thing to talk about the country even after touring 3 regions.

I always laugh when Nigerians say we are good people.
We are far from it....

We are the worst I have seen when it comes to welcoming strangers, everyone is after himself.
Anyone assisting you is doing so because of what they can get not out of will....

Is it an Igbo man who doesn't like the Hausa that will treat a foreigner with love?

Most of this is embedded in the poverty that reigns in the country.
Everyone is looking for what to milk and make a daily bread out of the other.

We can do better as a country.
A country that "vulcanizers" throw nails on the road, so that you can patronize them.
Re: French Man Of Nigerian Origin Disappointed After First Visit To Nigeria by nairalanda1(m): 3:29pm On Jan 16
The problem is, NIgeria is a third world country, with third world problems...

But even then, the guy is relatively rich, compared to Nigerians. As any rich person in the developed world can tell you, there are women and men like him that surround them. Being 'poor' in his country he never see anything.

Once recall reading about an American woman who recieved an inheritance that made her rich. Had to start taking measures to protect herself, even from members of her own family.

When Obama visited Kenya for the first time in 1986, one thing he noticed was how people were begging him for money all over the place.

The guy is expereincing what the rich in his country experience. Everything is relative.

LOL...yes, you right.

But consider this, in france, the rich people there are probably meeting people like he did every single day. Because sugar attracts ants.

BY Nigerian standards, at 5000 EURO Monthly salary, he is rich. Hence he is experiencing what the rich in his country experience. Once he goes home, he would be back to being 'poor'. cheesy

People like the parasites are everywhere. Even in some Asian countries there are women running after white men. Live and direct. Some of them because they want to have half white kids...some because they want the ticket to oversease.

It's not just Nigerians o.

Somebody should please tell this guy that his problem is with Owerri, and not Nigeria. He can as well go back to Lagos if he doesn't feel safe in Owerri 😎

Leave that cursed SE and visits any place else but there.

Even Bokoville in the NE is better than that SE

The particular area you visit matters a lot. A visitor on holiday in places like Ikoyi, Lekki, Maitama or Asokoro will likely have a different experience to the one in Owerri.

.. next time you plan to visit Nigeria, choose your destination wisely.
There is no difference between all the venues
Its all shittholes

The greed and sexual promiscuity in Nigeria is nauseating
Poverty has turned men into thieves and cheats and the women into active prostitutes
Anyone involved in the wholesale degeneration of a nation should be ready to answer to God Almighty

Yes, absolutely. You shouldn't place burdens on people who have paid in full for services solicited!

This is why they say environment really matters a lot. You obviously live in shithole; that's why you think every part of Nigeria is shithole. Mr man, just try and move out of that shithole you live. Explore posh areas and mingle with the elites. Your life won't be the same again. Aswear

Yes. And I’m not among those celebrating it. I meant ‘some’ will not hesitate, not ‘all’.

His experience is our everyday experience in Nigeria but because we are used to it then it's just a norm to us. The reason why I can only shop at a mall is because that's the only place I can buy things at the same price with everyone else. Our people no dey use eye see who looks rich

The best you would have enjoyed your stay is in Lagos or Ibadan or Abuja. Portharcourt is also fair.
