Sane government would find a way to compensate. But naija own you are on your own. If u like die na u sabi
Compensate for what exactly, if you don't own the land and you build on it, or if you bought from omonile and you can't regularize, how do you expect compensation, compensation is for legitimate owners, most of those make shift homes are just paying rent to some area boys for years.
Re: Families Sleep In Canoes After Makoko Was Destroyed By Lagos Government by MemoriesAndMe: 5:58pm On Jan 16
There must have been several ignored warnings before the demolition. I won't blame the state government on this.

If anyone legally owned these lands that suddenly became a community exists, such persons can easily sue the government with a Certificate of Occupancy as proof of ownership.

Compensate people who violated the state laws by building illegal shantees?
Anyone can come to Lagos building a shantee and then expect the govt to Compensate them. Especially in land that doesn't belong to them.

I wanted to write something of this nature before you took it away from me...Sanwo Olu looks so innocent but poisonously dangerous... He smiles behind evil and wicked mind.
He is I can tell you for free remember I am an Igbo man. I had some dealings with him before he became a governor and trust me he is very nice and level headed, reason he was chosen as governor. I think he is not totally in control of certain things in Lagos. He just have to bow to whatever instruction given to him by oga at the top. Sanwolu is a very nice man.

Sanwo olu looks calm and accommodating but his tenure has given birth to the highest demolition in Lagos without compensation in most cases.

Lagos state is currently demolishing jakande estate as we speak without regards to court order on the demolition.

Initially, some were happy that mostly igbo properties was targeted,. I already knew it will get to everyone.
All these injustice has to end.
He is Truely calm, accomodating, loving easygoing and level headed. I had some dealings with him before he became a governor. Am not surprised he was chosen as governor. Remember he is not totally in charge of Lagos state.
By the way, this is coming from an Igbo man.

I took pity on him when he was addressing the press during the endsars protest. He wasn't the one talking....But then I rather be a man on my own than listening to someone who'll ask me to go against my conscience.... The evil will hunt me.

This is poor argurment, is this legitimate NO!,

All states have city plan, road expansion might be delayed because of money, but it is not illegal.
Just because someone died there doesn't mean the land is owned legally.

Must you expose to the world how low self-esteem has eaten deep into you, everything done by non Igbo tribes in their regions will always have Igbo inferiority complex syndrome narratives.
You should cover your face in shame for this comment. What has it to do with being Igbo or any other ethnic tribe? This baba so pe mentality should be discarded by you and your likes at this age and time.

Except that you are not humane, you should feel pity for the people who are displaced, especially the children who have to sleep on open boats at night, not considering the attendant risks. What if one of the children wakes up to wee at night and misses his/her step? What if an elderly misses his/ her step? What would happen when it rains? While you sleep in your one room one window feeling comfortable, do you know what the homeless pass through presently? Who says that demolitions are confined to just one part of the country. When there’s no provision of immediate alternatives by government, who complain of housing deficit, do you expect other citizens to close their mouths and be docile like you.
You lots make add to the bad name the country bears.

Is makoko close to benin republic border?
Lukuluku69:
Funny enough these people are not Nigerians but Beninoise.

That said, I think LASG ought to have given them ample time to relocate from that Seafront.

They have been there for generations.

I knew with that coastal private investors will take over Jakande and build some Nicon like estate there. They have been eyeing that land for years. And immediately Tinubu got in, the Lagos state government came in and took it.

When are we ever going to get it right in this country. All these elitist style of Government is what gives rise to terrorism. You can't just demolish people's homes without any form of rehabilitation. Are they go in Ng to sleep on those canoes now? Including all those children, what kind of life is this?
This Lagos State Government and their Federal Master will perish in the end.
