Resettle them to where?

They are majorly Beninoise who came to Lagos, Nigeria to fish amd trade.

The only resettlement should be across the border to the West of Nigeria.

But the government is doing the right thing here, as long as there are provisions for those living in such conditions.

Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria, yet the most populated and obligated to contribute the most to the IGR. When places like this gets converted into buildings of value, it translates to value for everyone.

That is - if provisions are made for these people before demolishing what they call homes though.

A lot of Nigerians are actually ignorant of so many things.

The inhabitants of Makoko in the Lagos Mainland are majorly Beninoise and not Nigerians.

Already I have seen comments about Government resettling them elsewhere but ask yourself why would Nigeria Government resettle Aliens living amongst them? Where?

Go to the North and you will see Nigeriens, Malians and Chadians blending seamlessly into the Local population in Kano (this I have seen myself)

This is the exact same thing here. Makoko residents (majorly) are from Benin Republic. The Government knows it and the residents knows it.

Settling on Lagoons and waterways is only the exclusive preserve of the Ijaws in Nigeria, Yorubas don't settle on Lagoons.

You live in such a place and instead of focusing on how to succeed financially in life to move out, they focus on having more than 5 children per family, hoping one of them will make it in life and take them out of the slum.

I don't feel pity. I love what the government is doing, but those with two kids must be relocated into new places and leave the ones with more than 5 kids to find their way out — such men or fathers are all about opueh, not progress and this is one of the disadvantages of poor men having access to opueh.
Re: Makoko Residents Witness Demolition (pictures &video) by bentenny(m): 6:43pm On Jan 16
Why cant you build low cost houses for them?
So where will they go to and what will now be their source of livelihood after taking away their fishing business?
I pity anyone staying at Lagos state!
The crime rate will increase!

Living in a floating slum is not even more dangerous enough considering diseases, malaria, water boarne diseases, but under a high tension power line! It was a time bomb waiting to explode

Is it government that is paying your own house rent? They left their country, states of origin and their ancestral land in Ondo waterside, Badagary and Benin Republic and came to live on water in Lagos Mainland and giving birth every year like pigs, yet government should find house for them. You wey dey pay house rent nko? Shey you too no be government pikin?

you don't allow people to live under high tension power lines because they lived their for generations... As a govt leaving them their u re not helping them coz themselves too don't know that it's dangerous. As a govt u protect ur citizens by forcing them to do what is right wether they like it or not.

Na by force to live for Lagos?
Go to your different villages and develop the rural areas too.
You live in Lagos and those in the villages compared to you are like King's and Queens.

Funny thing, when Ghanians and South Africans wan troll Naija, Makoko pictures and videos are part of the banter medium. They'll say, "THIS IS NIGERIA "

KUDOS TO THE LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT. ALTHOUGH I AM NOT A BATIST OR APC fan.

all I have to say is another Atlantic loading
Plans are ongoing
Future 50 story building are springing up
Lagos is selling for billions now

If you live close to water Lodge or shanties better move now and save yourself

You all heard about oworo right
You all saw what happened and still wait
Better move before it's too late

Lasg want to build billions houses for billionaires
Not poor people anymore
But I hope they will learn and go back to their villages and start something good

Lagos belong to the brave and hard mind now
