Gridlock Looms As Lagos Begins 18-week Repair Of Mazamaza Bridge by cityboylagos(op): 9:09am On Jan 17
Motorists using the Lagos-Badagry Expressway have been advised to plan their movements ahead as traffic congestion is expected to worsen from next week following the commencement of rehabilitation works on the Mazamaza Bridge, Eyes Of Lagos reports.

The Lagos State Government announced that the repair project, which is expected to last 18 weeks, will run from Monday, January 19 to Thursday, May 28, 2026.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the rehabilitation involves the replacement of expansion joints and other critical bridge components to enhance the bridge’s safety and durability.

According to Osiyemi, the repair works will affect both service and toll lanes on the inbound and outbound sections of the Lagos-Badagry carriageway.

He, however, assured road users that the bridge will not be completely closed at any point during the rehabilitation period.

“Sections of the bridge will be partially closed at different stages, but traffic flow will be maintained throughout the duration of the project,” he said.

The commissioner explained that traffic will be managed through carefully planned diversions, making use of the toll lanes, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor, and service lanes, depending on the phase of work being executed.

He added that the rehabilitation would be carried out in phases, starting with a preliminary stage in late January, followed by repairs on the Badagry-bound lanes, and later the Lagos-bound lanes.

Osiyemi disclosed that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed along the corridor to manage vehicular movement and minimise delays during the repair period.

He urged motorists to exercise patience, obey traffic signs, and comply with the directives of traffic officials, stressing that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to avert more severe disruptions in the future.

Long overdue indeed.

I passed that road toward the end of last December, and calling it unmotorable would be generous. In fact, even unwalkable feels like an understatement, unleggeable might be the most accurate description, if such a word exists.

The government doesn’t need to announce its closure for maintenance, the road has taken the initiative and shut itself down, permanently and with great enthusiasm since no vehicle worth its name can use the road. Perhaps Danfo and all these korokpe can manage.

People go suffer there ehn. 18 weeks they said by "SLOW MEN AT WORK". If you are affected, just plan for 36 weeks., e-get why.

I hope your APC RoNu governor will also delete that choking smell/odour of human waste and excreta that permeates the entire air and environment from 1st Gate all the way to Mile 2 undecided

Please speak to him on our behalf 🤗 so Lagos becomes a better smelling city for everyone of us kiss

Well, if we’re talking about total maintenance, perhaps you should first whisper that memo to your nzogbu-nzogbu governors. At the very least, they could pour a few buckets of sand on those tragic excuses for infrastructure you generously refer to as “roads” in the East.

Honestly, that should be your primary concern. Or has the region been quietly written off as undeserving of attention? Last I checked, human beings still live there, unless, of course, your definition of humanity changes with geography.

Why should it take that long.
The company should be made to work day and night with workers taking shifts.
By so the work will be expedited.

You didn’t pass that road. It’s my regular drive route and the portion of the bad bridge is the metal joiners that connects the bridge.

Shinedu, charity begins at home. Kindly take your unsolicited wisdom back to your governors and ask them to build actual roads, not those tragic footpaths you keep advertising as highways. Lagos will survive perfectly well without your intervention, so feel free to save your advice, it isn’t needed, requested, or missed.

Omo.. The Mile 2 to Badagry route is about to become a damned nightmare.

What should have been a mere 1 hour drive will have traffic congestion alone smoke out 5 hours from your time, not to talk of the rest of the trip.

Ahhh which road are you describing this way? Abi is it not same mile 2 to Ìyána Iba that I passed every day? Can you please mention the segments that is bad?
Yes government won't wait for damages to occur before taking action, but the road is totally motorabel

Starting from Agboju market all the way to Mazamama on old Ojo Road . Infact, it starts from Oluti, close to that Ndukwa Premier Hotel.

For the record, I do not live in that axis, and I never claimed I did, so kindly explain the mysterious origin of this “he is a gross liar” accusation.

But no worries, I’ll let this one slide… consider it a limited-time offer.

Errrrr...which road did you pass that was "unmotorable and even unwalkable?" Are you talking about the interchange at the Mile 2 part of the Lagos - Badagry express road or another road?

I pass that route to and from work everyday and apart from the said joint issues on the bridge and the menace of danfo buses causing traffic by parking on the roads, the road itself is quite ok.

So your assessment is the Old-Ojo road which runs parallel to the Express road. That entire stretch is under reconstruction and dualization all the way to Article Market by the LASG. Last I checked, the repairs have gotten almost to Agboju.

Your earlier post made it sound like you were talking about the main Express road. The Express road is very ok but Old Ojo road is work in progress.

Which road are you talking about and which portion of the road is unmotorable . Apart from agbara bustop to carwash which they are presently re constructing with concrete causing poor traffic flow at agbara there's no part of that expressway from mile 2 - agbara that is unmotorable , let's not even talk to badagry at all.

As for the topic , another nightmare begins, going to mile 2 that is always now a smooth ride is now going to be like those days of traffic trauma.

I knew you must have passing through that axis times without numbers and see people bend down to defecate indiscriminately on that median of the road despite the ongoing construction of Blue line second phase. The only fault of the govt here to me is non enforcement to arrest those people defacing and polluting the area
