Growing Up With HIV: My Story by RetroviralS(op): 5:16am On Jan 15
Living with HIV is a quiet struggle that many people do not see. This is my story.

I found out I was a person living with HIV (AYPLHIV) at a young age. At first, I did not fully understand what it meant. I only knew that my life had changed in a way I could not explain to anyone else. I was told to keep it secret, and for a long time, I did.

Taking my medication every day was hard, especially as a child. I hated the routine. It was tiring and confusing, but I kept going because I was told it would help me live a normal life. Coming from a close family made it even harder, because I could not talk to anyone about what I was going through.

I grew up feeling different. I kept my circle small and avoided close relationships because I was always afraid of being exposed or judged.

Things started to change when I joined a support group for young people living with HIV. For the first time, I met others like me. I learned that I was not alone and that my life was not over.

Later on, I entered a relationship. Telling my partner about my status was the hardest thing I have ever done. I lived with fear and guilt for a long time before I finally spoke up. When I did, I was surprised by her response. She chose to learn, to understand, and to support me. That moment changed my life.

Today, I am living positively. I am healthy, hopeful, and building a future I once thought was impossible. I share this because many young people living with HIV are still suffering in silence, afraid to speak or ask for help.

No one should go through this alone.

At Retroviral Solutions (RVS), we work to support people living with HIV by improving access to care and treatment with discretion and without judgements. If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out.

How were you exposed or infected?
Are you still with your partner?

All the best bro and I wish you good health. A lot of "healthy" still live much more complicated lives than PLHIV.

Can HIV be easily contracted?
Because I no longer understand myself.

The level at which I'm emancipating is extremely concerning and alarming.
