I think it was around 1994/95

There was no kerosene for long time, people had to devise means by using saw dust with paint containers

My family used it wella around the year 1999 - 2002, scooping free saw dust from the saw mill. Myself and my peers then always show our saw dust moulding skills, fun memories.

It started as free but when it gets to the point of rushing it, then those saw millers decided to be selling it - for token sha. I remember one time we do pay like 5 or 10 naira for a sack bag full.

Re: Who Witnesse Abacha Stove? (Pictures) by Kalulu44: 9:30pm On Jan 17
It wasn't 1994/5. It was between 1996 - 1998 when Abacha died. And some people continue using it till early 2000
Re: Who Witnesse Abacha Stove? (Pictures) by richiemcgold:
Kerosene was a luxury around that time. It got to a stage you won't see sawdust again in some sawmills. We dey carry sawdust come house from like 15 km sawmill away from our house. Chai! Omoh! Nigerians have suffered. E don tey, no be today.
Re: Who Witnesse Abacha Stove? (Pictures) by ipobarecriminals: 9:30pm On Jan 17

Benefits of fuel subsidy. Nigerians with short memory.
Re: Who Witnesse Abacha Stove? (Pictures) by PDPdestroyer(m):
It was a terrible moment In history. It was around that time they imported adulterated petrol that produces fumes that irritate the eyes like tear gas too. I think that was also when kerosene beans that was killing people flooded the markets. Eyes have seen terrible times in 9ja.

Re: Who Witnesse Abacha Stove? (Pictures) by bikefab(m): 9:32pm On Jan 17
Yea it was 1994. Saw dust suddenly became a scare commodity as almost everyone scrambled for it. Nigeria has never had good leadership

Re: Who Witnesse Abacha Stove? (Pictures) by wonder233: 9:34pm On Jan 17
It was 1994/95 in Benin City. I remember going with my mum to join a crowd of people at sawmill to hustle for the sawdust.
The idea behind this was to minimise the amount of firewood you will use to cook. Because firewood itself had become very expensive after kerosene became unavailable.

Not everyone saw it. I lived in Eleyele Ibadan then. I think it was around 94. Our compound was large and not floored so we could use firewood instead.
Re: Who Witnesse Abacha Stove? (Pictures) by Trenow(m): 9:36pm On Jan 17
