President Bola Tinubu on Saturday congratulated the Super Eagles for winning the bronze medal at the 2025 African Cup of Nations, describing the achievement as feeling “good like gold.”

The President commended the Nigerian national team for putting behind them the disappointment of the semi-final loss to host nation Morocco last Wednesday.

“This bronze medal surely feels good like gold,” Tinubu said in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement is titled ‘President Tinubu congratulates Super Eagles on AFCON bronze medal.’

Tinubu stated that the Super Eagles players, through their victory, have once again demonstrated the determination, persistence, and can-do spirit associated with Nigeria.

The Super Eagles overpowered Egypt, defeating the seven-time AFCON winner in a penalty shootout after regular time, in which the Nigerian team dominated.

The President remarked, “Despite their good run during the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi-final match to Morocco during the penalty shootout last Wednesday, and our people’s hopes of winning the championship were dashed.

“However, our players remained undaunted, and exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.

“We will all be proud of them as they receive their hard-earned bronze medal on Sunday in Rabat, Morocco.

“Thank you, our gallant Super Eagles. Thank you, our national team players. This bronze medal surely feels good like gold.”

How can a so called first class accountant claim that 3rd class bronze is as good as first class bronze

It's far better to win a 3rd place match than lose in the final. When you win a 3rd place, everybody celebrates but when you lose in the final, you cry, only the winners celebrate.
Last AFCON, we were sad in the final but yesterday, everyone celebrates the victory over Egypt.

To be frank girl, the team did very well throughout the tournament, we must commend them.

Well appreciated. Unlike in 2002 when they banned the team because we got a bronze medal and the coach was sacked even after qualifying them to the world cup. He repeated the same feat in 2010 after qualifying us to the world cup but was sacked again.
