Who in his right might will set up a gold refinery in the north? Na waooo! You set it inna secured location. Do you know how much is paid to store gold in secured banks? The north did not know that Islamatizing Nigeria is one thing, but using banditry and terrorism when previous attempts failed is a NO. Now, it is bouncing back on them. All they think of is how to make Nigeria an Islamic nation by using force and violence. But investors are running away from their land. Even their own bullionaires have stopped investing there. Lol. |

The Northerners had spent decades ruling the country and all they gave us is almajiris. Few years of Tinubu’s administration, they complained like spoilt brats and wanted everything for themselves. I never knew a single individual can stand up to the northern cabals and shook it the way Tinubu is doing. Not even the northern youths enjoyed anything from their wasted years in power. Shameful people! |

owobokiri:There is no requirement to locate refineries near oil Wells That is ignorance 3 of the top 10 refineries in the world are in South Korea It is not an oil producer Singapore is not an oil producer it has 3 massive refineries doing 1.3 million barrels per day ExxonMobil Jurong Island Refinery Singapore ~605,000 ~0 3 Shell Pulau Bukom Refinery Singapore ~500,000 ~0 4 Singapore Refining Company (SRC) Singapore ~290,000 ~0 Your statement is based on emotions not business Any country in the world can have a thriving refinery It has nothing to do with being close to an oil well What about being close to the end user or consumer? Switzerland refines most of the gold in the world have they got any raw gold? |

And so what if they do!? If you can site a refinery in Kaduna, why can’t a gold refinery be sited in Lagos!? The same peeps hinging their watery case on ‘federal character’ are the same ones that have cheated and marginalised Ndigbo/South-East for more than half a century! |

Gajagojo:Dude, you’re comparing apples and oranges….two different things! You cited instances of two countries that DON’T produce oil….last i checked. Had South-Korea or Singapore been oil producing, you think they would have sited their refineries on the other side of the country….far away from their source of material!? One of the first things we learnt in Economics class in secondary school is that siting of industries are primarily determined by closeness to source of primary raw material! |

Newsmills:Based on geological surveys and mining activities, several states in the Southwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria contain gold deposits, with some of the most significant, high-grade deposits found in the region. Here are the states in SW Nigeria with gold deposits: Osun State: This is a major gold-producing state, with significant deposits located in the Ilesha schist belt. Specifically, the Iperindo area, as well as locations like Itagunmodi, Osu, and Igun, are known for hosting high-grade quartz-carbonate gold veins. Oyo State: Gold deposits are found in areas such as Shaki and Irawo, where gold anomalies have been identified in stream sediments and schist belts. Ondo State: Gold is present in Ondo State, often found in association with the geological fault systems that run through the southwestern region. Ekiti State: Known for various mineral resources, Ekiti State hosts deposits of gold, particularly in areas with schist formations. Ogun State: Geological surveys have identified gold occurrences in Ogun State, contributing to the list of Southwestern states with potential for gold mining. Key Locations: The Ilesha Schist Belt in Osun State is particularly noteworthy, with Segilola Gold Ltd operating a commercial gold mine at Iperindo. Other areas mentioned include the Iseyin-Oyan River and the Ifewara fault zone which cuts through this region. |

IGBOPROMISE1:You have not told us why there is a benefit from having a refinery next to an oil well as opposed to next to the consumer Or what the benefit is The flaw in your thinking is refineries must use oil from their countries . That is wrong there is no reason why that must happen they may get better deals elsewhere. Another assumption is that the refinery must sell in Nigeria I can set up a refineriy using100% imports and exporting 100%. It is a business period It is not OUR THING. It is not your business it is his business ) Shell does not have a refinery in Nigeria but chose to open major refineries in Singapore that has no oil refining oil that is maybe from its Nigerian operations It is not only oil This thread is about gold Switzerland refines more than half the world gold It has no gold of its own Over 70 % of world cocoa comes from West Africa chocolate is made in Europe America and other places Iron Ore Australia is number one producer but is not in the top 10 of steel producers Diamonds India , Belgium Israel and UAE are the top diamond cutting locations They don't produce diamonds We can go on and on A refinery is a business not a government parastatal Those who build refineries are making business decisions YOUR CLAIM ABOUT SITING NEXT TO RAW MATERIAL IS THEORY SITING CAN BE NEAR MARKETS At any rate whether good or bad HOW IS THAT YOUR BUSINESS. It is private enterprise |

Newsmills:Dangote does not need to sell in Nigeria at all He can import crude oil 100% and export 100% A refinery is just s value addition station A centre if knowledge and technology Africa sells cotton and buys. Second hand clothes This idea of locating refinery next to oil is sentiment She'll has been in Rivers State for decades Refused to build refineries there but built in Singapore that has no oil Singapore Land mass is under. 30 % of Lagos State It has refining capacity of 1.3 million barrels a day That is more than Nigeria In 2023, Singapore exported about US $54.6 billion worth of refined petroleum products — **making it one of the top global exporters (around 4th largest by export value) among countries exporting refined oil products. |

Newsmills:Gold is available in lle-lfe, lfewara, llesa, ljero Ekiti in commercial quantities. The whole of llesa township sits atop gold. It sad to note that illegal mining has been going on in these locations for decades. The refiner would have done her feasiblity studies before choosing her location. |
