I pity country like Germany. They don't have nuclear weapon as DETERRENT. They still have US troops occupying their territory after World War II. Economy is crashing, de industrialization is kicking in.
However, this is different from Nazi Germany under Hitler. Hitler was on rampage, anybody who's not a true German blood was sent to unknown destination.

EU is handicapped, economy is going down, open immigration have done more harm than good to their national security. The war in Ukraine have drained their military production & economy. Now they will have to choose between Ukraine or Greenland.
