Lagos state government is the most wicked government in the world. No sympathy for the poor and they lie all the time |
| Re: Sanwo-olu, Ezekwesili Clash Over Makoko Demolitions by Inukwa: 8:04am On Jan 21 |
I don't understand how these governments behave. If people are internally displaced by natural disasters and maybe war or crisis, government will quickly go and establish an IDP camp to provide relief materials. But now Lagos Government is artificially displacing people in the state without talking about their welfare. There was a country! |

The government left issue raised and started raising trivial accusations, the same concern the government raised with AIT road at Alagbado and demolished people's buildings, the same government is building and reselling the lands there. |

Ezekwesil is right on this one. You can't just go and demolish what someone has known as a home for decades, if not centuries - and then leave them dry and hanging. I asked the other time what other alternatives the government provided them before the demolition -so far, I haven't seen anything of substance the government has done to alleviate the suffering that come after rendering them homeless. This is wickedness - if not witchcraft. |

I was waiting to hear the governors rebuttal of what Ezekwesili accused them of but as usual with the present class of mediocre politicians we have today,he rather went into attacking personalities and NGOs but couldn't say any tangible thing on the allegations raised. The next minute, their 'data boys',whom mostly are from the same poor background that are marginalized comes to defend there oppressors(talk of Stockholm syndrome)but these greedy, selfish, corrupt politicians, are only interested in the financial and economic aspect of the demolition. If this is done for urban renewal, fine!but find a way to first of all resettle these displaced poor and vulnerable Nigerians, where lies our humanity beyond political partisanship, nemesis is a bitch, most of these guys supporting the oppression of the vulnerable will certainly be visited sooner or later,in one form or the other. Reducing genuine opinion to ones tribe is both shameful, degrading and irritating but that's what the APC government has turned Nigeria into, even the so called educated ones are now so blinded with tribalism, its a pity. We have completely lost it as a nation. |

The allegations of NGOs profiting from the Makoko situation wouldn't be a thing if the government had sanctioned a conscionable effort to resettle this people in the first place. Let's not forget that Makoko community is divided into two; Makoko on Land and Makoko on water. Regardless of how the govt tries to justify the demolitions, here are the major issues. 1. Makoko on water - Never should have existed and the activities done by people in the area, is the major cause of water and air pollution in that area. There is no day you use the Third Mainland bridge when you are not greeted with a foul burning smell and untidy looks of the Lagoon owing improper sewage/waste disposal. No NGO efforts have yielded a positive result despite decades of intervention. Instead, it continues to get worse by the day. Besides, Lagos generally has a waste problem... Misses Gov. Ambode. 2. Makoko on Land - Simply put, the 50 meters setback for buildings along the Lagoon is non-existent and there have been some systemic encroachment too. This I have seen from my visits to the place. LASG has battled with the dilemma of either controlling the aforementioned or leaving the menace to continue given the public outcry and international scrutiny they may face. This move signals that they just couldn't stomach it anymore and had to make a move. |

shortgun:And the Anambra Govt that did the same thing is What? Mugu talk, just making noise and you were All -blind to the destructions in Anambra that is still Ongoing -that your Madam Ezekwesili -and Others had seeled lips- mute 🤐 then but because they are interested in Lagos,we would not hear word. •However,To the Lagos State Govt: - Agreed that it is a Slum, •Where is the Alternative Place/Land this Poor People can move to? •They are predominantly FISHERMEN,SO do you want to take them far away from their Sources of Lifelihood and Which Employments Are You Creating For them? After all, they have been there since many Decades ago! -What People will not want is the Maroko-Bad Experience- done by the then Col.Raji Rasaki '-'who build this gather ' and the Poor people there lost! •Can we have alternatives of meeting the Poor People Needs ( Housing,Water,Road 🛣️, Health Services Hospital 🏥 Delivery 🚚 Services in our Lagos State? For example, the least Storey Building 🏢 on the Malaysia Land is 20 Storey and they Are all there for us to See. Please 🥺,Lagos State Should Do likewise and reduced the Cost of Housing Projects in this State, •We advocates -that the State Should Not be building for the Elites at a high Cost, but rather Channels it to the POOR,who normally Support the Govt- More, afterall Lateef Jakande did great things- including Housing and Water 💦 Projects, etc, in Lagos then, just within 4- yrs, 3 months. •Lagos State Can Still Do it Again! |

I can tell you, even before the demolition, they have already allocated the whole area to themselves and few highest bidders, that's why the popular bar there Kardelex Bar was not demolished. 3 days after the demolition, new owners don dey already fence their newly allocated space. BIG CORRUPTION |

| Re: Sanwo-olu, Ezekwesili Clash Over Makoko Demolitions by epainos: 9:00am On Jan 21 |
I am careful not to support government for demolishing another notorious slump in Lagos. Is the destruction good for the environment? Yes. Is the destruction good for the poor people there? No. If I support government, dem go get muscle to even demolish structures in good locations just because they want to make money. And if mine should be among, people will even work against me because i supported them when illegal steuctures were demolished. If not, I know what to say or write. The lesson here is that the foundation of Nigeria is bad already. We need to return to the basic. I refuse to address issues like this again. The foundation we need to correct is having credible election. We need to use distruptive innovation to always conduct credible election. When we have such, politicians will sit tight. Good people can be elected. Without this, na same story we will be saying in 500 years from today. Just imagine Seyi Tinubu saying he wants to be the governor of Lagos. Wetin dey his brain? Lol. No be to steal? So, when we can conduct a credible election, the first president we need to choose is who will use the same disruptive innovation to fight corruption to zero and improve security. Other things will follow. And perhaps, the division of Nigeria internally should take place. I support it. Cos why will 30 million people, now going to 40 million will continue living on Lagos. Too much na. Everyone just packed themselves to Lagos because their states are underdeveloped. That's the dividend of corruption. While government is not going to do the right thing (government is always brutal and corrupt), slumps need to be eradicated. We should be ashamed of everything if we still have such slumps in Lagos. They don't have toilets there na. Just polluting the lagoon anyhow. Let me not talk of the high crime rate in the area. Na the same people shouting now that government is bad that will say Lagos is smelling. Do we think Lagos can provide good housing for over 30 million people? Let's be realistic na. And the same government sef doesn't want things to change. Dem want to only hijack lands and build new flats they can sell amd loot the money. Not doing it for the betterment of the society, but for their pocket. Cos before you know it, they will be the one to station "agbero" near all the newly erected places again polluting the area. As dem don cash out with sales of apartments, dem go quickly move in illegal avenues of generating illegal funds back to the area. So, the cycle continues. So, let's get rid of corruption. Let's me our electoral process credible. |
