THE Ad hoc Committee on the review of the constitution at the House of Representatives has adopted the report of the 2014 National Conference organized by ex- President Goodluck Jonathan.

The confab report recommended 54 states, modified presidential system of government, state police as well as a revenue sharing formula whereby  Federal Government gets 42.5 percent, states receive 35 percent and local governments earn 22.5 per cent among others.

The Chairman of the Committee, Yusuf Lasun, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the House, said in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary Wole Oladimeji, that the report would form part of the working documents of the Committee.

The statement reads: “The decision to adopt the report of the National Conference was taken at a working session/retreat of the committee recently held at Transcorp Hilton hotel, Abuja

“The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the committee who doubled as the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Sulaimon Lasun Yusuf.

“Copies of the report have been circulated to members of the committee‎ to go through and come up with recommendations to the committee while the consultants to the committee have been given the report to advise the committee on how to go about it.

Some of the salient proposals in the report would be turned into draft bills‎ which would be presented to the house for adoption and passage.

“The committee would commence work on the review immediately the House resumes from its Sallah break.”

The confab report should be properly reviewed and I think more fund should not be allocated to the state cos they would surely squander it through looting. Federal government should devise a mean by which common man can directly benefit from the state government instead of allocating more fund to them.

We have a foundational problem yet we keep on adjusting the roof of our collapsing structure.
If our nation is ever going to remain a single indivisible entity, the implementation of the recommendations of that conference report is a must especially as regards true federalism, forms of governance and minority rights. If this is not done we will continue to go in circle.

This is just one of the reasons why Bubu and his team of sycophants wants to silent the house of assembly.

So now he can send the confab report to archive, but God pass em.

Splendid..

Power needs to be divulged from the centre to states...and states creation henceforth should be along ethnic lines, no more mixingup of dissimilar ethnicities into a state.

What we need now is to create as many states as possible in the SS, solely on ethnic criteria, let everyone develop his community. so that no one will say an Ikwerreman refused to develop Kalabariland, or an Okrikan is impeding on the progress of Ogoniland, bla blah... undecided undecided

Do not bother about how the states will be viable as almost all NDelta ethnicities have oil in areas albeit in different commercial quantities. The Northern states can merge themselves if they do not have enough resources.

Nigerians, pls don't crucify me! We need to set our priority right. Presently, Nigeria is battling with economic crisis and I don't think most of the recommendations in the 2014 confab report are suitable for now. We need to subdue the economic challenges first.

* Imagine, 27 states out of 36 could not pay workers wages and we are proposing 54.

It means 89,000 federal civil servants will be increased to about 150,000 all at the expense of our dwindling economy.

2014 confab report is superb but not implement able at this moment. The implementation will create chaos, compound Nigeria economic challenges.

What Nigerians need now is not more states or state. Police. We need

* atleast 18hrs electricity supply
* A bag of rice for N5000
* A litre of fuel for N50
* Housing Mortgage of standard 3bedroom flat for N2M to be paid for 20yrs (fraction of Minimum wage)
* Minimum wage N45,000
* Free health care service
* Free Tertiary Education

We need to reason well.
