Guys please help me before I mistakenly Eat poison.
I'm always careful of whatever goes inside of me because it will hardly come out.

I bought a mudu of Butter Beans yesterday, I'm cooking it right now. But after parboiling it, I perceive a kerosene-like smell oozing out of it. I don't know what this means.

I have stories of people who ate such, and died afterwards.

Someone please explain to me. Should I continue or throw it away?

Urgently please.
The beans were mixed with Cypermethrine Insecticides.
The chemical has similar smell with Kerosine.

I landed in hospital last year after eating beans. I was perceiving chemical smell.

This unhealthy way of preserving beans is not been taken seriously. I stopped eating beans for many months until recently that I start checking well before eating beans.

Some use too many chemicals in preserving them from weavils

It's not about the smell now, it's the toxicants in the beans we all are wary of

Ok. Here's Mama's tips for cooking beans mostly, including the one you bought.

1. Boil for 5 to 8 minutes.
2. Throw away the brown colored water.
3. Add fresh water, cook and enjoy 😉

Lastly, taking these steps will keep you and those who eat the beans from throwing gas up and down with reckless abandon wink

It's the smell of the chemical used to preserve it.
Avoid consuming it by all means.

Let him or her know the danger it can cause. Mixing chemicals with food is not good at all. Some will take it it won't affect them but some will take it and start having issues.
How do you know she mixed chemical to the beans? What of if where she stored it, kerosene is beside it, and it got the smell from it?

How will aombody selling raw food purposely put kerosene in what's she's selling? Is she gaining customers or losing them?

That's the smell of pesticides you are perceiving.

Wash beans before cooking. Boil and throw out the water, pour fresh water before cooking.

Beans don almost Kee me before. Na prayers save me.
Re: My Beans Is Smelling Like There's Kerosene Inside— (Photo) by Originalsly:
The person you bought it f I'm is likely the person who sprayed it with kerosene. ... most likely to keep away weevil and other pests . Everything now is about profit ... no concerns about the product affecting your health. My advice is to smell the unused one to see if you smell kerosene. In future ...smell first before buying . If the seller doesn't want to take it back and refund you ...get loud ...spoil market for her.

The chemical they used to preserve it has not expired. My family and I have eaten such before and we are still here. You can parboil it and pour the water away the moment the beans starts boiling.

You can as well pour the beans away if you are scared.

There is chemical or some medicine for preservation they put in the bag of the beans you bought. The medicine is still active that
was why it smelled like kerosene.

It's a general knowledge that that traders preserve beans with chemicals. Are you hearing this for the first time?

You better throw it away and live another day than taking a risk to save money and going down under forever. You will get back your money someday but your life? It's gone forever.
I have seen Nigerians preserving beans, stock fish and dry fish with sniper. Nigerians are very wicked n thoughtless when it comes to safety. They only care about profits.

It's better you wash it well before cooking it. If you cook it without washing it well, the chemical will penetrate it
JuanDeDios:
These days, you parboil beans and throw away the first water - so you don't ingest the chemicals they used in preserving it (especially if you don't see any weevils on it). Did you do this?

If the smell is strong, yeah, you should throw it away.
Re: My Beans Is Smelling Like There's Kerosene Inside— (Photo) by DeGLORIOUS: 9:08pm On Jan 21
The most difficult grain to preserve is beans. That's why people implore all manner of ways to preserve it. I want to believe that what you perceive from your beans could be the smell of snipper. Try to compare their smell and you will understand what I mean. Cooking beans immediately you bought it from the market could be dangerous. You may sun dry it if possible before cooking it.

Don't eat it. Take it back to the seller and let him or her know that her beans is not fit for human consumption. That is how food poisoning killed some people.
