This is actually the situation of remote job in this country. In fact, I am one of those facing the challenges. After managing to fix power supply mini power station, and noise, I was unable to fix network. I have only one option for the network which is MTN, others don't work. When MTN starts to fumle, I just remain helpless. It cost me the chance of getting clients.
Get starlink. I thought remote workers make a lot of money.

One person up there said he has made over 100k dollars within 2 years.

I had mtn and Airtel routers, when I used the Airtel router I always got the unlimited monthly plan, the daily 10gb never let me access some websites and even blocked some apps from connecting, made calls to the customer care but wasn't fixed so i quit Airtel, mtn 5g was better, (i live not too far from a uni so that is a +), but when it rained or was really cloudy, or during the day, i got terrible speeds.
My wife got lucky and also started working remotely, Elon musk pushed out the starlink mini and made it affordable so I got it, I was paying about 20k a month with those routers, so my wife, myself and another person in the next building who always streams pay the monthly subscription, the worst speed I ever got with starlink was 89mbps.
if you are around people who use lots of data and want good speeds, you can come together to get starlink and then you guys just pay up the sub, good speed is guaranteed and even a small inexpensive power station can power it for days (40 watts+-), this is good for gig workers who are constantly hunting, the burden of payment won't be much, and youll always be connected.

What is the best noise cancellation gadget?
I have Xm5 and APM.
Go for APM. It's more rugged and the ANC is better.

So, how do Nigerians in Naija who do remote work get paid without money being deposited into their Opay or Naija bank account?

FutureFocus:
What you need most is one with the noise canceling Microphones, so that when you are on call and your kids are making noise , the mic won’t pick their voice , it will only pick yours

For instance , if you call MTN customer care, you will notice there is no noise at the other end, even though there are many people in that call center talking at ones like bees in the market place, noise canceling mic will eliminate those noise and remote companies only recommend Jabra and
Plantronic voyager , some companies even reject Bose and Sony , even though Bose has the best ANC in the world, Jabra has the best ANC MIC

I have many of them

Paypal seems to be biggest hurdle for remote workers. Banning you for no good reason other than your a Nigerian.

With band A, light is no longer a problem, with 4G router, internet is no longer a problem.
This is scary

Any serious remote worker knows to make arrangements for electricity whenever needed, strategically secure apartment at a location that's almost always quiet, and also have every other equipment needed to make the job fluid.
Generator is a bad plan, it can disappoint you just when you need it, electricity from solar is what you need, all of this aside, the greatest problem of a Nigerian remote worker is being in Nigeria, count yourself lucky and know that you're among the top 1 percent in Nigeria and maybe Africa if you secure a remote job, an actual job not a gig.
i see most people mistake gigs for jobs, a gig person doesn't have a job, and while at it, save money, continue to apply for jobs and make sure to look into how you can make money doing what you can control to some extent (with the money you saved).
This is serious

Two main challenges actually...!

Power Supply
Good and Affordable Internet Access

Surmount these 2, and you are a baller.

The terrible state of these two key developmental indices underscore and expose the bacwardness of this nation.
You're not a baller yet especially in this biting economy. You can be making millions monthly but still struggle to do reasonable projects.

I bought my previous car by saving parts of my salary for judt two months. Now I'm earning over four times the salary but must save up to four months to afford a car.

There's still house, there's investment, there's vacation.

But we thank God sha.

Getting paid is also another challenge, coupled with epileptic and unpredictable internet connection.
Raenest aka Geegpay, Grey and payoneer have made payment relatively easier.

The OP nailed it. The biggest hurdle isn't even the job itself; it is the infrastructure (Power and Internet) and the Payment Gateways (PayPal/receiving funds).

However, once you cross that bridge, the reward of earning in FX while spending in Naira is unmatched. It is the only hedge against the current inflation. For those struggling, don't quit. The initial setup is hard, but the financial freedom on the other side is real.
I was surprised the OP didn't mention the payment hurdle cos that's one headache too many!
Re: The Many Hurdles Of Remote Workers In Nigeria by Bossman(m): 11:39pm On Jan 21
I concur with the other responses - the challenges of uninterrupted power supply and reliable internet are real. On y visits to Naija, I use MTN for my internet. However, the connection during the days can be spotty sometimes. With me needing to join zoom video calls back to the US daily it's sometimes not reliable. Though my estate is on band A, I have my inverter on standby just to help mitigate any NEPA issues. I cannot even think about doing any real development work - coding, deploying apps, connecting to GIT and unix box, etc. while there. Once Nigeria can solve those 2 major hurdles of power and internet, I can see a lot more folks getting remote opportunities. There is talent in the land, but our infrasture is failing us.
