How do I narrate this without feeling let down?

It's really painful and sad.

Last week, I bumped into an old school mates of mine. In fact, we weren't just sch mates but coursemates.
This is someone who wouldn't attend lectures or read. He used to copy from me during exams . He was more of a nuisance to almost every of his coursemate. It wouldn't be act of exaggeration to say he was the dullest amongst us. You know these types of coursemates that are never serious, they just go about talking and disturbing everyone. The guy no get shame at all. He will beg you for money, food and everything.
During exams, he would go into the hall with chokes. He was a photocopier. You must open your scripts for him to copy, else he will keep disturbing you.
So, yesterday, we had into each other. He's married now and doing very well for himself. He is the most successful of all of us.
I'm a hussler. I do all sorts of menial jobs. So last week, he drove into a car wash stand where I work. I saw him and I was surprised. All the while, we were only seeing on Facebook. When I spotted him, he didn't know I was the one until I went to him. We hugged and exchanged pleasantries, I saw the disappointment in his face. Why would I be washing cars after sch?
Did you know that this same guy asked that we took a picture together?. We posed for the camera and one of my colleagues snapped us..
He left. And this guy began sending my pictures to other former coursemates of ours. The next week was my birthday, and this guy posted same picture on our WhatsApp platform. I was mocked. They now call me a car washer.


This has affected my self esteem and confidence. The admin of our WhatsApp platform had to delete the photo . Most of my mates called me directly to pacify and encourage me cos I was among the best students during our time.

I'm really disappointed. This guy didn't call me on my birthday, but had the guts to post a picture of me while wearing rags and washing cars at my workplace.

I am really traumatised at this moment. I'm pained. Nothing has ever hurt me like this, not even the death of my dad ever hurt me this way.

It is part of life, part of maturity. You don't need these people. Just pray that 15 years from now, that same picture would give him great shame while being a subject of testimony to you.

Maybe this is just revenge….

He now made mockery of you whilst you are all out of school... so why are you now getting angry or upset? Just take it as lessons of life.

You are even comparing this one that has nothing to do with your life with your late father. How dare you? How can you give him this importance in your life more than your father who cared for you until he died? Stop that thing

Let me tell you something, no one cares about you like you care about yourself so why are you disappointed about the picture? A man is worth his hardwork and you should be proud of what you do. If I were you, I will claim the picture and tell everyone to come and wash their cars and use it to make money. First car wash is 20% off or something like that.

You are not proud of your work? Ah, you fall my hand. Before you let them mock you, take ownership of the story. Be proud of your work, if you did that, the person wey wan shame you na him go shame first.

Let me tell you something you need to know. There are no permanent friends and enemies. The person was your course mate no mean say na your friend. That is the mistake you made. Life is all about seasons, enjoy your time now and be happy with your life. Don't ever make the mistake that you are not doing well because you are not doing office job. You will find out in time that all of us just want to eat. And the other people here are right, maybe life is also trying to teach you a lesson that everything is turn by turn, so anyone that thinks someone will not do well in life will be humbled one day.

The thing is; don't allow it to bother you. The end justifies the means.
My advice to you is; Don't settle for less. You can't build an empire washing cars unless you are the CEO of the business & you have many branches.
Since you said you were brilliant in school, start sourcing for jobs online . There are more dignified jobs you can find online that will definitely pay you more. Even here on Nairaland Job threads.

For now, avoid any alumni gatherings and associations. You can neither find help nor validation there. Alumni associations/meetings are just for dick-measuring contests. TRUST ME!

Go work on yourself and when you have arrived, na dem go gather themselves to come pay you courtesy visit.
