bidexiii:TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI RECORD SIGNIFICANT GAINS IN TIMBUKTU TRIANGLE OPERATIONS; TERRORIST NETWORKS DISRUPTED, VBIED ATTACKS FOILED Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have sustained their advance into the Timbuktu Triangle, recording significant operational gains and further degrading terrorist networks operating within the area. In the latest phase of operations, troops successfully cleared and dominated key terrorist locations across the triangle, including Tergejeri, Chiralia, and the Ajigin/Abirma general areas. During the conduct of these operations, troops made intermittent contact with fleeing terrorist elements and engaged them with high volumes of fire, resulting in the neutralisation of several terrorists. On 20 January 2026, while consolidating at a harbour area approximately 6 km North of Chilaria, troops encountered 2 Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED). Through vigilance and swift action, one VBIED was successfully neutralised. The second VBIED, however, breached the defensive position affecting some logistics platforms The wounded were promptly evacuated by Nigerian Army Aviation helicopters to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital. Throughout the evacuation, Nigerian Airforce platforms from the Air Component in synergy with other Nigerian Army air platforms provided continuous overwatch to ensure the safe extraction of casualties and the security of ground forces neutralising more terrorists in the process. In a further indication of the heavy losses suffered by the terrorists, troops discovered mass graves containing an estimated 20 terrorist bodies killed during encounters with troops in the Timbuktu Triangle and buried by their cohorts. This discovery exposes the scale of terrorist casualties and further discredits terrorist propaganda narratives Across the Theatre, the security situation remains generally stable. Troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain high, and operations continue with sustained pressure on fleeing terrorist elements. Troops of OPHK remain resolute in their commitment to protect civilians, dismantle terrorist networks, and restore lasting peace and security across the North East. bidexiii:Guys did anyone remember this type of V.B.I.E.D attack that happened Jan/Feb 2025, where we lost a huge number of soldiers including one Lieutenant Colonel Alari. According to some sources the incident happened few kilometers between the Timbuktu Triangle, same as few days ago. The most painful part is that the NA top brass are not learning there lessons or they dont value the lives of soldiers.

Can this VBIEDs not be taken care of by loitering suicide drones or something? They need to look at adding it to the ground commanders tools |
| Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Toju200(m): 7:55pm On Jan 22 |
Odunayaw:it all comes down to early detection. If you're able to detect VBIEDs early even with RPGs you'd take em out or tanks sef. |

Late last year ISWAP used two VBIEDS to attack a super camp. They were detected on time, it was SHILKA that destroyed them both |

Odunayaw:Its about employing modern technology and thinking out of the box. How problem is we love doing things the old way, not wanting to spending money rather than embezzelling. We could deploy ground surveillance radars, have seen it being deployed but how often and how many we have in our inventory? Excavating trenches around your perimeter big enough to stop vehicles, have seen this been used in the ongoing war between Russia/Ukraine. Aerial Surveillance and EW for distrupting enemy drones, they easily monitored our troops activities without been disturbed. Then the defensive layout is poor, the troops could hardly see 50 metres clear out infront of them. Right infront of them is a thick vegetation. Lastly we should start fielding ATGM solely for neutrializing VBIED, I understand they're pretty expensive but the lives of our soldiers be prioriotize, let's invest in early detection systems for missions like this ! |

bidexiii:Troops dismantle three Boko Haram detention facilities in Timbuktu Triangle Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled three detention facilities used by Boko Haram terrorists in the Timbuktu Triangle as they sustained their advance into the notorious enclave in Borno State. Sources told Zagazola Makama that the detention facilities, each with three separate cells, were uncovered at the Guraba terrorist camp during ongoing clearance operations in the area. The source said the troops recorded significant gains after clearing and dominating key terrorist locations across the Timbuktu Triangle, including Tergejeri, Chiralia and the Ajigin/Abirma general areas. During the operations, troops made contact with fleeing terrorist elements and engaged them with high volumes of fire, resulting in the neutralisation of several terrorists,” the source said. He added that on Jan. 20, while consolidating at a harbour area about six kilometres north of Chilaria, troops encountered two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs). “Through vigilance and swift action, one VBIED was successfully neutralised. The second, however, breached the defensive position and affected some logistics platforms,” he said. The source said that in the course of the attack, some soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) lost their lives, while others sustained injuries. “The wounded were promptly evacuated by Nigerian Army Aviation helicopters to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital. Nigerian Air Force platforms from the Air Component, in synergy with other Army air assets, provided continuous overwatch to ensure safe evacuation and further neutralisation of terrorists,” he said. In another development, troops discovered mass graves in the Timbuktu Triangle containing about 20 bodies of terrorists killed during previous encounters and buried by their cohorts. The discovery, the source said, exposes the scale of terrorist casualties and further discredits the propaganda of the insurgents. He said the general security situation across the theatre remained stable, adding that troops’ morale and fighting efficiency were high. “Operations continue with sustained pressure on fleeing terrorist elements as troops remain resolute in their commitment to protect civilians, dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security in the North East,” the source added. bidexiii:Troops kill terrorist, recover arms in Maiduguri cordon-and-search operation Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed a suspected Boko Haram fighter and recovered arms during a cordon-and-search operation in parts of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), the military said on Wednesday. Sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted under Operation Desert Sanity IV following intelligence reports of suspected terrorist activities and possible suicide bomber movements within the metropolis. The source said troops were alerted to a gun battle between Boko Haram and ISWAP factions around the Malkube area of Tungushe General Area near Baga Road Market. “On receipt of the report, a standby team comprising 36 soldiers and 10 members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was mobilised to the scene. “On arrival, the troops exchanged gunfire with the terrorists. The general area was cordoned off and searched, leading to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines, 15 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and a Samsung Fold 4 Android phone,” the source said. He added that one terrorist was neutralised during the encounter, while no casualties were recorded on the side of the troops. The source said the operation, which was hitch-free, ended at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, with troops still monitoring the area for more intelligence and clearing suspected hideouts of terrorists hibernating within the metropolis. bidexiii:Troops repel Boko Haram/ISWAP ambush in Borno, kill 10, recover arms Troops of Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled an ambush by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Borno State, killing 10 insurgents and recovering a cache of arms and equipment. Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday during ongoing Operation Desert Sanity V/Siege Operations. The source said troops of Sector 1, in conjunction with elements of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, came under attack by terrorists who were in an ambush position with a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) and small arms fire. “The troops, who were on high alert, responded with heavy volume of fire and successfully repelled the ambush. “The attack was followed by the detonation of an IED on the troops, but their swift response forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray, with several of them killed and others sustaining gunshot wounds,” the source said. He added that a reinforcement team from Ngoshe swiftly moved to cut off the terrorists’ withdrawal routes along the foothills of the Mandara Mountains and successfully ambushed the retreating fighters. “Troops mounted a hot pursuit on the remnants who managed to escape and exploited the general area towards the withdrawal routes, recovering several bodies and equipment,” he said. The source said 10 terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, including two senior leaders identified as Basulhu, a key commander, and his second-in-command, Ubaida. Items recovered from the terrorists include three AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, five motorcycles, two hand grenades, two Baofeng radios, 12 AK-47 magazines, 197 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, one RPG charger, two detonating cords, 13 nine-volt batteries, an iron bar, a bandolier and a camel bag. The source said the general security situation in the area remained relatively calm but fluid, adding that troops continued to maintain maximum alertness. Source: @Zagazola

Troops ambush terrorists in Sokoto, recover six AK-47 rifles Combined troops of 8 Division Garrison Strike Force and the Department of State Services have neutralized a terrorist cell in Sokoto State and recovered six AK-47 rifles in a decisive counter-terrorism operation. Sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists were intercepted in transit to Gundumi Village in Isa Local Government Area to carry out an attack on civilians. Acting on credible intelligence gathered through weeks of surveillance, troops tactically positioned themselves near the village and engaged the insurgents, who were traveling on motorbikes from a nearby forest. One terrorist was neutralized during the encounter, while others fled into the forest with gunshot wounds, abandoning their mission. The source said a subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of six AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, and 18 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. He added that troops have intensified patrols and maintained a strong presence in the area to prevent further threats. “This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property, reinforcing public confidence in the security forces’ ability to combat terrorism and maintain peace,” the source said. Toju200:Its easy to detect VBIED on a Super camp or a F.O.B, the layout suggest the camp perimeter would be 150m to 200m front clear view. And they are properly secured and layout than temporary base during clearance operations. ISWAP is always taking Advantage of these type scenarios where they know the VBIED can not be easily seeing and there is proper thick vegetation that would cover them up till they are near the troops. Check out the video and you'll see the temporary base was a sitting-duck for a VBIED attack, same with the 2025 attack also. |

“TRANSLATE TRAINING INTO VICTORY”: COAS TASKS EXERCISE RESTORE HOPE IX GRADUATES ON COMBAT EXCELLENCE The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged officers and soldiers graduating from Exercise Restore Hope IX to translate their intensive training into operational victories as they deploy across various theatres of operation to address Nigeria’s security challenges. Speaking at the Final Exercise and Graduation Ceremony held at the Nigerian Army Training Camp, Kachia, Kaduna State, on Friday 23 January 2026, the COAS emphasised that combat excellence, discipline, adaptability and teamwork are essential requirements for success in modern warfare. Lieutenant General Shaibu described Exercise Restore Hope as a critical component of the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda, designed to build a professional, resilient and mission-oriented force capable of operating effectively within joint and multi-agency environments. He noted that the advanced infantry training had equipped the graduating troops with enhanced marksmanship, physical endurance, combat medical skills and the mental resilience required for sustained and high-tempo operations. The Army Chief stressed that battlefield success must be anchored on professionalism, respect for human rights and accountability, noting that ethical conduct remains vital to maintaining public confidence and operational legitimacy. He commended the instructors and training establishments for maintaining high standards, adding that graduates of previous editions of Exercise Restore Hope had continued to distinguish themselves across various theatres of operation. Earlier, the Chief of Training (Army), Major General VU Okoro, said the exercise, now in its ninth series, remains one of the Nigerian Army’s most important post-basic training platforms for sharpening combat skills, building resilience and preparing soldiers for contemporary operational realities. The COAS thereafter declared Exercise Restore Hope IX closed, congratulated the graduating officers and soldiers, and approved the immediate promotion and decoration of seven soldiers who distinguished themselves as instructors during the exercise. Promises made. Promises kept. Today, Lt. Gen. John Brennan joined senior leaders from the U.S. Department of War, the U.S. Department of State, and U.S. Mission Nigeria to launch the first-ever U.S.–Nigeria Working Group. More than a meeting, this marks a new mechanism for action, accountability, and coordination following Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern under the International Religious Freedom Act. This engagement was a meaningful step forward in strengthening U.S.–Nigeria cooperation to counter terrorism and protect the disadvantaged

bidexiii:The issue boils down to improving situational awareness on the battlefield. Apart from ground radar, even mast mounted camera's with infra red or Low Light functionality would work to give troops early warning of threats like this. I recall the Nigerian Army had done some research and development work during the 2010-2015 period where they developed such a mast mounted solution mounted on a truck (the mast could be raised and lowered). Apparently, these were never taken forward into production. Such a solution would give motorised patrols and make shift bases greater situational awareness. Funny enough it wouldn't require a great deal of funds to develop something like this. I hope some one revives that solution, it is sorely needed. |

VonSmallhausen:This is another indigenous & locally outsourced technology that would have given us an edge if mass produced and deployed. Like I'll always say, our top brass and commanders are not grapsing quickly they way they should, they do not place premium on troops life. |

CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF ATTENDS DOHA INTERNATIONAL MARITIME DEFENCE EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE 2026 1. In line with need to further bolster Nigerian Navy platform holding, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), attended the ninth edition of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference tagged DIMDEX 2026 from 19-22 January 2026 in Qatar. DIMDEX 2026 was held under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani Amir of the State of Qatar and hosted by the Qatar Armed Forces. Notably, DIMDEX is the largest exhibition of maritime defence and security innovations in the Middle East Region and Nigerian Navy’s participation has opened a new vista for improving NN platform composition in line with emerging cutting-edge technology. During the four-day event, several visiting warships from partner nations were berthed at Hamad Port and open to dignitaries and visitors. 2. The CNS interacted with many solution providers in the maritime industry on latest trends and innovations related to acquisition of platforms and transfer of technology to improve the NN’s indigenous ship production capacity. Recall that so far, the NN has built five sea going platforms locally namely; MV SAUKA LAFIA commissioned in 2010, NNS ANDONI commissioned in 2012, NNS KARADUWA commissioned in 2016, MV TUG COMMANDER UGWU commissioned in 2016 and NNS OJI commissioned in 2021. The prospects of technology transfer would further reposition the NN towards becoming a leading manufacturer of warships in the African continent. 3. DIMDEX 2026 also afforded the NN the opportunity to preview various options of precision guided munitions and Naval Gunfire Support suitable for Maritime Security Operations in Nigerian waters and the entire Gulf of Guinea. Additionally, pertinent discussions were held on the equipment holding for the recently established Nigerian Navy Marines soon to be infused into various ongoing joint operations nationwide. This is in line with the CNS vision for the NN which is to “develop a modern, agile and professional naval force dedicated to securing Nigeria’s maritime interests and advancing national security objectives in synergy with other security agencies.” 4. You are please requested to disseminate this information to the general public. Signed A ADAMS-ALIU Commodore Director of Information
