Thanks do you have a mechanic in Lagos that knows about how to change the rings? Kindly chat me on whatsapp please 0 80 3 9 61 0113. I will be expecting your chat in anticipation
I won't advise you to ring just yet, since you just bought the car as tokumbo.

The severity of the oil shortage matters. Where did you buy the oil? Do you top up oil every morning? How often do you top up? I believe you must have driven for a week since the oil change. How many liters have you used to top up?

If you're sure you bought original oil don't bother yourself Bro, Toyotas are notorious for oil shortages in fact almost every engine will start shorting oil after a long usage.
If it's a car you're using for ehailing it's likely to happen after 2 or 3 weeks, it's a used car not brand new only very few cars survive this.
But then always make sure you are servicing the car promptly, don't be listening to those that will tell you one oil must last you two months or more, this is Nigeria.
A lor of things comes into play.

If you go and ring that engine there is 50/50 chances there will be stories, after you might have spent huge amounts of money.

The best thing is to go to market with a very good mechanic that is experienced with engines, take note experienced with engines so you will get a good replacement if you don't want to be using it like that.

Or you keep using it like that, but make sure you always check the oil level every now and then, since you're using it for ehailing.
Many thanks for your input. If I decide to be using it like that and just topping oil and changing oil regularly, won't the engine at some point start smoking and eventually die off

There are not enough messages to write about this. As a driver you need to take care of yourself/health

- Eat well, give yourself a treat once in a while
- Take out time to rest. Just sleep, watch a movie, anything
- Exercise. Take a walk, meditate
- Your mind. Clear your mind. Talk to yourself
- Get health insurance, even if na Ilera Eko

Some have been going on like that for a very long time, as far they didn't open it and it didn't do overheat and you didn't allow the oil to dry off it can still serve for a very long time.
But how many weeks adter service did you drive before you started noticing this oil shortage?
It matters a lot ooo, like i said before only very few engines don't short oil after few weeks of service especially if you are using them on ehailing.
But just be prepared for anything sha, because I don't know how serious the oil shortage is.

Pls don't ring that engine yet. I'll advise use full synthetic oil and watch if it shorts oil. Someone here has spoken of this how he used synthetic and it stopped shorting.

Don't ring it cause Iz 50 50 abeg and if done wrongly that other 50% death of engine comes very quickly after it done.

Free road/less traffic with poor fare is never the solution either. Such trips erode your dignity and self esteem as a man.

The conversation should be about fair price regardless of traffic - free road or not. The fares are abysmal. You should all find a way of pushing for what is right. 6k under any guise as your take home for driving someone from VI to Sangotedo should be an insult and a very big slap on your face as a man.
Damn! You couldn't have said it better. I mean the bolded.

Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by northbird: 7:51am On Jan 24
A lot of drivers run to buy synthetic thinking it's going to save them from the cost of changing oils..

An old car is an old car ,regardless of the appellation, Tokunbo ooh / foreign used especially when it's been used for commercial activities( ehailing).
The ideal mileage to change your oil is 2500-3000km. Which is even far less on the dashboard cos most Dashboard is configured in miles..

How do you drive a car for more than 2 month without oil change on ehailing and not expect the oil to shorten?. 20 - 23 year old vehicles.....

Regular oil change is one of the ways to prolong the life of the engine.

Don't go ballistic. No one is after your Engine oil business.. I see you ran to Google to pick screenshots n narratives favouring your position. grin
Talking about education, you ran to AI as your source.. grin.. and you think you are the educated one. ?... Get some sense now.. cheesy

you should know there are certain premises that are neither black nor white but absolutely on the prevailing circumstances at that moment.

I'm just saying. An old engine is an old engine. Using synthetic doesn't mean anything, especially if it runs commercially... Is your car also running commercially? Do you use them to do kabu -kabu..
I marvel at drivers covering 6000-7000km without an oil change , lying to themselves about synthetic bullshit..
An old 20-23 year old engine expecting to run like a brand new engine.

If using high mileage and original full synthetic oil you can change at least 7k miles. Changing oil interval like u mentioned is only advisable if you dey use your motor carry load or use am dey haul, which will stress the engine and transmission....

Good evening bosses, abeg make Una help me. Quick one please, my car (Camry 2011) started making noise, turned out the compressor bearings was damaged. I just got it replaced but the issue now is that the AC guy that replaced it wants to just fill new gas directly, without vacuuming the system for moisture, please is this proper? Google checks and Chatgpt keep saying it's absolutely not good, that it will damage my compressor long term. The other AC guy I used when I needed a gas refill vacuum the system properly last time, and I called him but he says I should just let the guy do what he can and then come to him since I'm far right now.
Abeg what should I do? And how much is it to vacuum and refill gas? I spent about 30k last time.

Which engine oil business are you yapping about..?
They should drain engine oil at 7000miles . huh.on ehailing..that's an equivalent 11,000km. grin. A car should cover 11,000km before they drain oil on ehailing ..

I drop the .oil 2500-3000km.

Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by chillex8(m): 9:25pm On Jan 24
No one here manufactures car engines.

If the vehicle manufacturer says: use 10w30, 0w20, 5w20, 20w50, palm oil, snake oil etc etc.
That's what you should use.

I no go advice you after this. My time is money.....

Now when changing oil make sure,I repeat make sure you gauge the oil very well. Make sure the car is parked on level ground.. this will avoid of filling the engine with too much oil. Too much oil will damage the engine easily....

A mechanic in my present just basically pour the whole inside the engine without gauging the oil. You are supposed to pour a little by little and gauge it. Thank God I was there otherwise that engine would have been toast...

Also make sure oil filter are checked and are of good quality. Fake oil filter can get especially paper filters can get tourn up and wrapped inside the engine..

I no fit dey advice after this my brother.. you are on ur own today. I will Just go dey look u na

Regular oil change is one of the ways to prolong the life of the engine.
So the problem is that d car is old not that synthetic oil is not important and shouldn't be regarded.

The ideal mileage is not 2,500-3,000km as u have stated. This is pure waste of money. How can u be changing oil every 3,000km. Recommended oil change is at least 5k miles, (my 06 Corolla notifies maintenance required at 5k miles) (Note the SI unit) Some oils can carry u 15k miles and it's not a scam. For ehailing u can argue that traffic and town driving can account for 30% inefficiency so if u are using a good synthetic oil then u can stretch to 7-8k miles.
If u now use cheap mineral oil simply because u intend to pour it out after 3k km then u are doing more harm to ur engine. Because the oil is thicker and the treatment ur engine needs is not present.
It's better u use d recommended synthetic oil, if it burns and shorts, then u do regular top ups. One of my Corollas has been shorting oil since I bought it toks in 2019. But the engine is still serving me till today. I can bet if I had converted to 20w50 like every kazeem recommended , I would have changed engine by now.
Even if u look at it from cost saving angle, it is cheaper to buy synthetic oil ones than mineral oil 3 times. Cos d latter goes with filter and workmanship at every change.
We have been having this same argument for more than yrs now. I doubt if anyone who has been supporting mineral oil use over synthetic is still using d same engine and the engine is still sound.

U drive for 2weeks everyday on ehailing before u notice drop and u complaining d car shorts oil? When some people's car is swallowing 1litre every 3days.
U are looking for problem where there is none. Continue using your recommended oil o. Top up with d remaining 1litre then buy another 1litre before ur next servicing.

There is really no shade for this Chief.
Hardex no be better oil, u can't be bragging with hardex. quote me anywhere. U can drain it at 1k km that's ur choice but that doesn't mean if u use original extended performance synthetic oil u can't use it till 10k miles.
Dru isn't telling u to use synthetic and flush it out at 3k km. So it's not like he is marketing his product. He is just saying the truth. If u use original oil, it can carry u till 7k miles on ehailing and even way more if it's private use
