Kano: No Betrayal, Kwankwaso Got A Taste Of His Own Medicine - TonyeBarcanista by TonyeBarcanista(op): 10:54pm On Jan 24
I have read some publications in which Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso lamented the decision of Governor Abba Yusuf to abandon the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly describing it as a “betrayal.” What an irony.

Firstly, Kano’s political history shows a consistent pattern of fallout between godfathers and their governors. In 1979, Aminu Kano helped Abubakar Rimi win the governorship, only for Rimi to later part ways with him.

In 1998, Musa Gwadabe helped Rabiu Kwankwaso clinch the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket and win the governorship in Kano. Kwankwaso, however, soon parted ways with him. The same Kwankwaso!

Kwankwaso was also instrumental in Dr. Umar Ganduje’s emergence as Governor in 2015, yet Ganduje eventually broke away from him. Similarly, Kwankwaso played a key role in the election of the incumbent Governor, Abba Yusuf, in 2023, and they have now parted ways as well.

Given this history, how does Kwankwaso expect an incumbent governor to remain under his control when he himself was never under the control of Musa Gwadabe? How can he expect Governor Yusuf to remain perpetually beholden when every governor in Kano, including Kwankwaso himself, has asserted independence from their “helpers”?

Why, then, is Kwankwaso complaining that Governor Yusuf has abandoned the NNPP for the APC, when he himself left the PDP, on whose platform he won the governorship in 2011, for the APC in 2014 without vacating his office? Likewise, he later abandoned the APC, on whose platform he was elected Senator in 2015, for the PDP in 2018, again without vacating his seat.

I am neither in support of nor opposed to Governor Yusuf’s decision, nor am I against Kwankwaso. My point is simple: Kwankwaso should be prepared to swallow the same pills he once administered to Musa Gwadabe and the PDP.

No betrayal at all. The governor has the right to belong to any party he wants. Moreso, Kwankwaso is becoming overdemanding and overbearing too much. All the heavyweights in Kano politics are now in APC and APC has always been formidable in Kano. It is safe to say that Tinubu has secured the North West.

Lol. But Osinbajo cannot even dare vie for the position of president without being called a betrayer. Aregbesola can also be tagged a betrayer by you folks for pitching his tents elsewhere. Even Seyi Makinde has started to be called one due to his ambitions to contest an election under his party, PDP. Is it only betrayal when it's Tinubu at the receiving end? Kano was an APC state in 2023, did Tinubu win the state? If you believe that Abba can deliver Kano to Tinubu with Kwankwaso openly campaigning against Tinubu, then I have a very potent snake oil to sell to you.

So why was Tinubu chasing him all over the place for months and even sacked Ganduje as chairman of APC to pave way for his defection? Kwankwaso turned his back on the deal because America has allegedly instructed Tinubu to balance his ticket with a christian. Otherwise, Tinubu was willing to drop Shettima for Kwankwaso.

Yesterday someone said what Yusuf did to Kwankwaso was unfair, my response was, "is Kano the inheritance of Rabiu Kwankwaso?" People need to understand that the concept of godfatherism in politics is anti-democratic. There is nothing wrong in having a protégé or mentee in power, but everything is wrong when people seek to install Governors who they see as their puppets.

Kwankwaso and NNPP reach is limited to Kano and it is not pragmatic for them to remain as NNPP. Kwankwaso was holding out for VP position and this is proving difficult for APC.

The question is should the fortunes of the NNPP be determined by the career aspirations of Kwankwaso alone, I hope they can workout something for him and betrayal is not a word to use in this type of situation.

The Biden situation comes to mind and they should not have left everything in the hands of Biden and the party should have decided.

Was that how Tinubu secured Lagos in 2023 and even in 2015 when all heavyweights in Lagos politics were aligned with the TAX monster planner?

2015 was when Oba Akiolu issued the genocidal lagoon fatwa against Igbo voters after the shock presidential results that PDP almost won, while six HoR slots were won by PDP and Accord.

Na so o.

Even Obi's attempt to be a godfather in Anambra was frustrated by his protege, who quickly made him a homeless IDP politician before Atiku rescued him from oblivion in 2019.

newsbook:
Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has re-echoed his allegation that his predecessor, Mr Peter Obi demanded the sum of N7.5billion from him for sponsoring his election in 2013.

Obiano and his predecessor, Obi have had a frosty relationship shortly after his swearing in.

Obi has however denied that he demanded for the sum of N7.5billion from Obiano, saying that his problem with him was his (Obiano’s) underperformance.

Obi said if he needed the said sum, he would have simply taken it from the N75billion he left for the Obiano administration at the end of his tenure.

But Governor Obiano while speaking on Wednesday evening at Ezechima Primary School, Onitsha where he inaugurated his reelection campaigns in Onitsha North Council Area, said the clarification became necessary because of the recent accusations against him by the former Governor.

He stated that his predecessor had demanded the sum of N7.5billion from him as funds spent in prosecuting the election on his behalf, but that he refused to pay the money because it was not true.

Obiano said he refused to pay because he strongly believed that public funds should be used for public good, and not to settle godfathers.

These, he said, was the reason they fell apart.

The governor said that another reason he refused to pay the money was because he was aware that enough money was raised for his campaign by his friends and associates, all of which were never accounted for by the former governor.

On the actual sum the former Governor claimed he left behind, Governor Obiano made it clear that he inherited liability of about N127 billion debt from him in contracts awarded and other responsibilities, which he has been religiously undertaking in the spirit of continuity.

He said Obi flagged off several roads even on the day he was leaving office and saddled him with the burden of paying for it, but he assured the people that he has his eyes on the ball and will not allow anything to distract him from fulfilling his promises.

The Chairman of the Governor’s Re-election Campaign Committee, Chief Victor Umeh said APGA as the political spirit of Ndigbo, has in the past three and half years, availed Anambra good governance at its best, reminding the people that the upcoming guber election was not about Willie Obiano but about ensuring that the state remained free from political godfatherism.

A former Central Bank Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo in his speech said that at this time, the State needs a tested hand like Governor Obiano who has the experience and expertise to effectively steer her affairs.

oga I'm not a politician but what I know is dat the person who put u there as governor worked so hard to do that ....u have to be loyal to him and his political ambitious. ..what happens in Kano is a total betrayal of trust.. .the same in the case of wike..... monkey dey work banboon dey chop.... meaning the former governors have worked to build their structure but tinubu is benefiting it ....the only hope those governors aligning with tinubu have and reason for their defection is to rig their way into second term by using the federal might otherwise I don't see how strong their capacity are in their respective state.
