South-east: The Roads Are Finally Moving (and It’s Not A Mirage) by ariesbull(op): 10:53am On Jan 25
Let’s be honest: for years, talking about federal infrastructure in the South-East felt like listening to old stories — plenty of promises, very little movement. So when people say the last two years under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu feel different, it’s not just political talk. There’s actual dust in the air, cones on the roads, and machines doing what they’re supposed to do.

Take the Second Niger Bridge, for example. Yes, the bridge itself existed before, but everyone knew the real joke was the access roads. A bridge you can’t properly reach is like buying a generator without fuel. The renewed push to complete and expand those access roads has finally started to make the bridge useful, easing movement between the South-East and the rest of the country and cutting travel stress in ways people can actually feel.

Then there are the major highways that South-Easterners know all too well — Enugu–Onitsha, Enugu–Abakaliki, Lokpanta–Enugu, Umuahia–Aba, Port Harcourt–Aba. For years, these roads were survival tests rather than transport routes. Over the last two years, many of them have come back to life, with long-abandoned sections receiving attention again. It’s not perfect yet, but when roads stop breaking cars and start saving time, people notice.

The federal government says it has committed hundreds of billions of naira to road projects in the South-East, and while Nigerians have every right to be skeptical of big numbers, the difference this time is visibility. You can argue politics all day, but you can’t argue with asphalt being laid and contractors actually on site.

Of course, this doesn’t mean all problems are solved. Some projects are slow, others are still ongoing, and decades of neglect can’t be erased in just two years. Frustration remains, and rightly so. The South-East didn’t start breaking down yesterday, so it won’t be fixed overnight.

Still, if we’re calling it as we see it, the last two years suggest a real attempt to move the South-East from the sidelines into the federal infrastructure conversation. The big question now is consistency. If these roads are completed, maintained, and expanded, this period might just be remembered as the moment when “abandoned project” stopped being the default South-East experience.

Stop spewing half truths here. Tinubu is not doing any new road in South East...all are roads already awarded by Buhari govt...which access road on the 2nd Niger bridge are you talking about...the axis that connects the bridge to Oko Kingdom, Ndokwa East, Delta State..no work going on..

The Oba access road was completed by Buhari.

Where is the Eastern Railway corridor from PH-Aba- Enugu-Maiduguri Tinubu said he has approved..
Enugu-Nsukka-Markurdi, that one is a death trap..
Owerri-PH is that one not Federal road...
Umuahia- IkotEkpene is that one not Federal road...Alex Otti is the one that have flagged off the construction of that Federal road.
Aba- PH flagged off under Okezie Ikpeazu, FH stopped the project that there's no money. Alex Otti completed it. Onitsha - Owerri needs maintenance...Gov. Hope Uzodimma have refurbished the Imo axis. The Anambra axis is waiting for Anambra govt who are not interested...

Stop saying rubbish here

Legacy is achieved, not claimed. Umahi who was Buhari’s sycophant until the end of his tenure publicly declared that Buhari never did anything for the Southeast. Today, all the projects he claims as Tinubu's handwork are infact, Buhari’s projects.

You know you are a coward and failure when you flee during a non violent, facts based argument.

You asked for projects, not only road projects but because you have been defeated, you want to flee.

Don't flee, sir except you believe that you have failed.

Within just 3 years,Tinubu has defeated all previous govts with positive deliveries in the SE.
What brilliance!
