The real problem of Nigeria is mediocre leadership. Leadership starts from the family and it's also very poor in most Nigerian families.

Poor laboratories infrastructure in Nigerian public universities is not only as a result of poor funding from government and industries/NGOs. In most cases the funds given to the universities are embezzled by the leaders in the universities. And the maintenance culture of the available laboratories is very poor.
Even if we ended embezzlement,it's not going to make universities better. Budget for education would still remain too low to turn universities into world class. I mean , advanced labs cost a lot of money. Remove embezzlement and we still have the same 4-5 billion dollars for over 100 universities, even more polytechnics and countless secondary and primary schools. Nothing would get fixed

I don't see anywhere where I denied mediocre leadership is our problem. In my post I even show you how mediocre leadership works in making Nigeria bad self.

But to make myself clear, our leaders and followers treat Nigerian economy as a national cake to be divided, not as a farm that needs to yield more fruit. We have worked on the idea that we need to sell oil and share the money equitably.

The problem is, oil prices dont favor us, so we quickly run into debt and also that kind of idea promotes corruption. That's how mediocre our leadership idea are.

Focus on indistrial development and on taxing the gdp more and on not starving vital things like the power sector in the name of poverty and things will improve.

Forcing lies on people's throat. This past glory school wouldnt want to give up. This is not 60's , 70's 80's and early 2000 that you people were all and all , attaining unimaginable feats. In this present dispensation a lot of schools has emerged and has relegated and pushed this glorified school to abyss . This lies can only be meaningful to the gullible but we that know, knows better.

I still stand by what I wrote before that pure science courses in Nigeria public universities is one the biggest scam in the world. I don't anything against social sciences, arts, and law.

Laboratory is the real foundation of science and technology. You can't practise real pure science without modern laboratories.

I was once a student of a highly rated public university in Nigeria. And their laboratories was outdated and poorly managed.
Yes because
1. Universities cannot charge high enough fees because poverty
2. We lack a large enough industrial sector because governments, especially this one , are tok scared to do the hard work to transition to an industrial economy
3.Govetment doesn't tax enoigh of the gdp
4. Corruption, which is a feature of a sharing the oil money economy, making things worse

Ending embezzlement will make pure science related courses in Nigerian public universities better; because the budgeted funds for the laboratories will improve the quality and modernize the laboratories.

The innovations from these laboratories will attract more funding from industries. In the USA,innovative laboratories get funding from industries;and I also believe innovative or productive laboratories will also get funding in Nigeria.

1. Ending embezzlement won't do anything. It still leaves the issue of funding as the elephant in the room.
That's why we need a leadership that would fight corruption, tax more of the gdp and allow.for.things like rises in fees. Or we can just have corrupt free mediocre universities.

2. We need more funding than that. Hence the need for a.indistrial economy..not our oil dependent economy..no country is going to find money for you

Are you aware of the embezzlement of funds for laboratories in public universities?

Even when the funding is tripled, the looting will still continue.

Which is why I said we got to fight corruption as well,.or are you actually reading my posts?

And even if we fight corruption, as I said ,we still have the funding issue left over..hence we got to look for solutions to that

Corruption is directly or indirectly contributing to poor funding. If not for corruption, why should defence get higher funds than education in the 2026 budget of Nigeria?

That's the problem. Corruption is making a bad situation worse.

Poor funding is due to our reliance on one resource. Which is kind of why most subsaharan African countries are poor. We rely on oil.and since we don't control the sale price of that oil , it creates funding issues

Like now , a large proprtion of this year's budget is being funded by borrowing because oil prices haven't been high enough

Corruption results from our sharing money economics. So long as the oil money flows , who cares about actual industrial development and a actually prospering economy?

Some Nigerians enjoy trashing Nigerian universities.

Having studied in Nigerian federal universities and earning a doctorate in the US, I can say that Nigerian universities are not as terrible as some people make them out to be. I am not claiming that everything is perfect but Nigerians are often too hard on the country’s university system.

You would be surprised at the accomplishments of recent graduates from Nigerian universities in top American universities and research institutions. During my graduate studies, I never felt like an outlier in classes filled with students from the US, China, Iran, India, Europe, and elsewhere.
Science without adequate experimentation is equivalent to falsehood!

Can you boldly say science laboratories(including the Anatomy cadaver laboratory for basic medical students) in the University of Ibadan is modern and properly managed?

Can you boldly say the University College Hospital(UCH)in Ibadan has good laboratories (including the mortuary)and hospital facilities?

What if I tell you that the great China has overtaken the USA in terms of science and technology. I'm very sure you are of the opinion that the USA is greater than China in science and technology in 2026.

The level of mediocrity in pure science related courses in the Nigerian public universities is unbelievable.

If the Nigerian government can genuinely fund science and technology education right from the primary or elementary school to the higher education level, Nigeria will become a developed country in 20 years time.

China is a good example of a country that has genuinely funded science and technical education;and this has made Chinese industries the most efficient in the world in 2026.

I was doing MSC in International public health in Liverpool John Morees University then dropped out to start a masters of public health in Ahmadu Bello University,I can say it anywhere that the quality of education and knowledge have gained in ABU dwarf that of LJMU by 1000!

Nigerian Universities are not really jokes!
