The change to concreted roads ( with more than double the amount in construction costs) is to allow for the excessive loading of trucks essentially by our brothers from the South East.

Maximum loading of trucks is
44 tons UK
69 tons Canada
88 tons USA

I am told my brothers constantly load up to 120 tonnes and beyond regularly. Then they will be the same people shouting that road don spoil.

A Dangote cement truck carrying 900 bags at the high end is approximately 60 tonnes all in.

I hear that a West African Country had to insist that they divide the content into 2 trucks and go through a weighing station before they continue into their country.

Tarred roads are generally better and safer than concrete roads for driving πŸš—. Here's why:
- *Safety*: Tarred roads provide better traction, reducing skid risks, especially when wet.
- *Durability*: Tarred roads are more flexible, handling weather changes and traffic loads better.
- *Maintenance*: Tarred roads are easier and cheaper to repair.

Concrete roads are durable but can be slippery when wet and are often pricier to build/maintain 😊

All these concrete roads government dey build lately, hope e no go dey cause accident if rain dey fall sha

If you check how they are built you will know that concrete roads are not slippery.

There is none that is 'better' in a side by side comparison. They both have characteristics more suited to different conditions.

Basically concrete pavements are characterized as rigid while asphaltic pavements are characterized as flexible so where you need rigidity such as in areas of deep moisture reactive subsoils concrete pavements are cost effective solutions.

But if ground conditions are reasonable and density of the pavement sub base is controllable then flexible pavements perform better.

Concrete roads are definitely better and last long. In my community in Port Harcourt when we had serious problem of the main road in the estate, the landlords built a concrete road. For over 25 years we have no single pot hole.

Recently NDDC built asphalt roads in the whole estates and they have all failed. I am talking from experience, our concrete road built still standing without any problem.

Highways are made with tar in U.K. and US, I won’t say about other countries before I didn’t take note when I went, but I am sure of U.K. and US
Concretes are used in Texas where I live and they are solid. I think the use of roads helps to reinforce the roads. Asphalt is used in the UK and they are also solid because of reinforcement. In Nigeria, contractors solid foundation before asphalts are used

If you have driven on concrete road, you would know that is it very uncomfortable

The uneven Road makes driving so unenjoyable

Asphalt on the other hand is prone to wear and tear faster but makes driving pleasurable
That's not true. I drive on concrete roads in the US and they are good. The main point is to use correct mixture, either in the use of asphalt and concrete.
My conclusion is that concrete roads are better

Concrete roads are the best all over the world, except that they're very pricey.
They stand out in terms of durability.

A poor road is a poor road, whether ashpalt or concrete.

However, a well done ashphalt road is betetr than a poorl done concrete road

But a well done concrete road is more durable than a well done ashphalt road

The issue of wet is not a problem. Almost all of Houston is concrete roads and rain falls a lot there too.

Awolowo road in Ikoyi was done by JB in 2002 or so as ahphalt and its superb and has lasted over 20 years. Likewise Broad Street, Inner Marina, Oregun road and Ojuelegba road. Likewise most of the early Abuja roads.

Thats not true. Apapa Oworonshoki exprewway is concrete and has no ashphalt layered over the concrete. Likelwise the road from Abraham Adesanya to Epe.
