School is usually an added advantage for the period of time.
All individuals should go for now is skill, business , business investment , and any other thing that is profiteering.

What Nigerians mean by "learn a skill" is very funny.

But I really don't blame them. A country that doesn't give their graduates the opportunity to practice their professions rightly will have to settle for a redefinition of simple terms.

The poster obviously doesn't know what school is. That is why he even includes "public speaking" as a skill.



After 10 years, when we all see the result of such posts on the fabric of the Nigerian society, we will then cry out to God to help save us.

Let me give you two countries:
Pakistan - High skill based
Israel - High education based

The first one are one of the poverty capitals of the world
The second one is one of the richest and the most advanced in the world.

Regardless, school and degree certificate is very important. One day, an opportunity will come that will require your degree certificate, then it will be a different story.

Yes, get as many skills, vocational etc as much as you can, but get a certificate, even if it is ND, even if you think you might not need it, you do not know when that opportunity will present itself.

Others won't know until they experience it.. school no be cum chop.. as I type this, there are students now with low grade or gp, lack of textbook.. already depressed because no money to do the needful

If not financially capable, It's better to find handiwork and learn.

At.least one should go to school at least to secondary school level . so that he or she can be literate and able to read and write and communicate in English fluently and boldly with confidence .

My advice, go to school first, oh!!!!(and by school I mean University not Polytechnic... Its important, You can go and learn skills after school unless you want to run rat race for the rest of your life...Very few, I mean like 1% of uneducated eventually make it in life without education most especially in Nigeria,,By going to school you increase your chances(also remeber not all that went to school aslo make it but the percentage are far higher). The surest thing in life is death..You can only increase your chances of achieving everything(Most especially success), and education is the platform

Lots of truth in your post! Had my ND 2005, struggled from then trying to make ends meet, then i remembered i learnt plumbing during the 90's. 2013 i was Fortunate to get a job in one of the leading oil company in Nigeria as a plumber.

Still working there earning more than lots of people working in banks plus I'm also running my own plumbing company and God has been blessing us with good contracts.

At the end of it..........

School is still important, even if na 2.2, just get...... Then add am to the skill

Unfortunately, the production aspect is not applicable in this part of the world, especially when it comes to sciences, tech and medical.
And this is majorly why people school, to make money via production.
Unfortunately, most end up in maintenance just slightly above vocational skills(if-at-all)
Comparing cost of acquiring as well as career-pay-package for both,
The financal commitment doesnt make schooling justifiable compared to vocation.

Unless one goes to uni just for awareness or literate sake.
Which unfortunately is not the case for majority.
People go for much more that.

You biliv all those Alaba business men and women who didn't go university but have 100ths of millions in account not making it?

How many educated person making it ooo? If indeed you are a graduate, pls tell us how many of ur set that have made it? How many civil servants or even bankers make it?

I'm 100% sure that, the 1st -10, better persons in your set today, 9 of them made it to their present level, because of their personal skills and not by certificates they acquired in the universities.

While studying for your degree program, were you not "learning skills" within the course you studied?

I studied Psychology and by my third year, I was already good in facilitating different psychological assessments and was earning with it, being an assistant to a Clinical Psychologist.

Matter of fact, most of the theories we are learning in school didn't originated from graduate or technicians. They originated from apprentice who made their observations from working for their masters.

What am I trying to say modern education created this hierarchy and classes.

A technician will likely outperform a graduate if he is willing to put effort to study and observe and vice versa.

I can remember an illiterate Landlord remind my Mum who's a Prof,, that she's living in an illiterate's house, for that reason he's going to increase our rent to the peak making us pay more than people that lived in a 4bed and 5 bed,, we had to quit that apartment,, that lead us to owning a Property in the Best place to Live in the City we currently live...
What I am saying is,, try and get yourself a business or learn a skill,it pays

...he is not against one going to university..but a poor man child how can the poor father funds his child or children in university..high school fees, costs of accomodations/ hostel fees, buying of books, textbooks, feeding, transportation costs and other school levies and charges in university or tertiary institutions.. where will a poor man get money to fund this..so he saying that to sustain yourself in the university it's about money.. university is not free.....they are people that did not even go to university but they are successful in life and wealthy.... there is a talent and skills one has in which the person can make use of it and succeed and their is other life opportunities one can go into
