Congrats to her.
Tomorrow,if she know someone who knows someone and the person knows someone in authority, she is going to use that degree to work in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
It's all about connections.

Inferiority complex. I'm not sure Chinese people are rejoicing that you are watching Jackie Chan and Jet Li
What’s your definition of rejoicing?

Congratulations omo iya.

What people don't know is that all courses in higher institutions have the same cognitive capacity which is to develop you to reason and solve problems regardless of the area of discipline.

My dear a degree in a foreign language like German, French, Dutch, chinese is more valuable than a degree in any nigerian language undecided you can work as a translator for the nigerian government or nigerian business people and earn in Euros, you can work for the nigerian embassy in those foreign countries. If you migrate to those countries like Lithuania, Luxembourg, Belgium you will get very quality work. Omo you guys need to change your circle

They still refused to tell her the truth even on Nairaland that it's a waste of years in this era. That it's your mother tongue doesn't still mean it's still not a waste of time in Nigeria.

Studying local languages in Nigeria is a waste of time.

I have a friend who told me his roommate back in school was studying Urhobo linguistics. Now I really don't know what he is supposed to do with that course.

Even Google doesn't need to employ an Urhobo person for long to learn Urhobo in this age of machine learning. It's just like studying Geography in the age of Google maps. It's as useless as trying to fly.

She just wasted money for her parents.

It's 2026 and you're reading a Mickey Mouse degree.
There's nothing like Micky mouse degree/course. When God wan bless you He go bless you irrespective of your discipline.

There are many jobless graduates out there who didn't study indigenous language riding okada and doing menial jobs to survive.

She can also create contents about the orishas/deities. There's scarcity of detailed information about the deities on the Internet from Yoruba people. Most of the knowledge of yoruba deities on the YouTube are from Brazilians, Cubans, and other South Americans. Last week I was looking for real information about Olokun(God of the oceans) and I was surprised that apart from fake Yoruba prophetess looking for people to scam, the real information i got are from a lady in Kenya or Zimbabwe. I learnt more about Olokun from Isese people from South America. It's like the orishas/deities are bypassing the Nigerian Yorubas and now passing their knowledge and power to the Yorubas in South America. The Ooni and other kings should take note rather than wasting time on politics and unnecessary superiority fight.
Last year I wanted to learn about Ogbe riku sa and other ifa ideologies and all information i got are from latin Americans. Lady, if you devote quality time to create genuine contents about the deities and their power and restrain from the temptation of getting quick cash, you will be highly successful and known all over the world. Thousands of African Americans in the US are followers of the Yoruba deities. You should be traveling all the world to give talks or for conferences. You can also partner with like minded people but remember that the Orishas doesn't like greedy people. That's why their power is reducing here day by day.
Have you read this bookhuh

Congratulations to her. Anyone thinking it's a waste of time doesn't know much. There are great opportunities for her as a tutor, content creator, researcher and translator. There are students studying Yoruba in Universities abroad too.

Yoruba culture is spiritually deep and very creative. She only needs to consider her area of interest. She'll surely succeed.

How is it a funny course?

Your problem us ignorance and lack of exposure

Even living in a digital era with AI and a smartphone you don't know how to research or ask questions
The main purpose of university is to develop thinking and other mental faculties

Your thinking is like that of a fish. Very shallow
No curiosity, no layers , just one dimension

If I ask you the reason for going to university you are not likely to say anything meaningful

The process is more important than the degree.

Any language degree should equip the holder with above average skills in persuasion and communication

There are billions to be made in the digital space with AI in our own languages

Don't assume we will speak English forever
