If U.S. trade jumped 60% that means we're possibly spending x10 or more now because our money has lost a lot of value. Simple Math: In 2015 you imported 100 pencils for N100. In 2023, those same 100 pencils now cost N500 (because naira was devalued). In 2026, you now imported 160 pencils (60% increase) for N800. |

@Nigerians, my people, let's buy local! Let's stop enriching and enabling a US administration that views us with contempt and treats us with derision. |

I was keenly reading to see what it is Nigeria is importing from US but no mention of it. Poor journalism. My guess is that it has to be oil 🛢️ Trump is really doing a FANTASTIC job for America |

Well good that our export market is growing, but I'd love for us to export more to them than we import. For now ,we look more like their customer unlike the likes of South Africa who send more to them than they recieve . The sad part is that if a Nigerian and a South African applied for an American visa today ,the South African will have it delivered to his house within 24hrs,multiple entry valid for 10years,while they ban those who feed them. Dis life no balance . |

DeltaBachelor:While Nigerians are busy calling Trump names he is doing well for his country putting America first. Our leaders will do well to put Nigeria first! |

Pentagon007:Business Day (December 19, 2025) Data from the NBS shows that petroleum products dominated Nigeria’s import structure during the quarter, valued at N5.15 trillion or 31.97 percent of total imports. |

What does Nigeria export to the US in the first place? Tarriffs reduce imports. There is not much the US needs from Nigeria that it can't get elsewhere. The US doesn't buy crude from Nigeria anymore. So outside the occasional agric produce we send, what else does the US need to import from us? On the other hand, Nigeria imports a great deal from the US. It is only natural that the trade imbalance shoots up. |

| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by grandstar(m): 2:37pm On Jan 27 |
DeltaBachelor:Please read the article first. It was only last year that the US had a trade surplus with Nigeria and it had more with the US purchasing less things from Nigeria. This was probably due to Trump's protectionist policies |
| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by casualobserver: 2:40pm On Jan 27 |
its likely largely due to Dangote importing US crude. |

| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by DeltaBachelor(m): 2:48pm On Jan 27 |
grandstar:Okay. Thanks for the clarification. However, we are still saying the same thing somehow. I also wish for us to maintain our trade surplus. No nation would want a deficit BOP or BOT. So let’s buckle up production by localisation of industries, supporting newly-established companies and factories to boost production by stable electricity, grants, loans etc When we have excess, we can now export and bring in more revenue. IT IS ONLY WHEN THERE’s enough to go round that we can export comfortably. Nobody will export what they are lacking. When Export is greater than Import, things begin to take shape, otherwise, na just padding we go dey do |

| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by grandstar(m): 2:50pm On Jan 27 |
DaddyJapan:Haven't learnt anything over the past 4 decades that "buy local" does not work? An "export or perish" slogan works best. All countries that have grown rich in last 100 years have done so by increasing exports. |
| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by plantist: 2:55pm On Jan 27 |
DeltaBachelor:Did you see where it was written that we had trade surplus last year and we had trade deficit because of the increased tariff on our goods. You have to things in a proper perspective. |
| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by DeltaBachelor(m): 3:01pm On Jan 27 |
plantist:Okay. Check the prices of goods last year when there was a trade surplus and that of this year when there is a deficit. Bottom line is this : We have to root out those who are mismanaging the economy. We shouldn’t just say we had a “trade surplus” on paper. How does that “surplus” reflect in the life of the common man ? |
| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by Fiscus105(m): 3:02pm On Jan 27 |
Dogalmighty17:What about last year that Nigeria had trade surplus? Always reading news to attack govt. Abi u don't read that Nigeria had trade surplus last year, meanwhile if you want to know exactly what they are trading, you go to federal ministry of trade and investment or Nigeria import and export promotion and not stay in faceless forum and be expecting everything to come on your table. |
| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by DaddyJapan(op): 3:04pm On Jan 27 |
grandstar:One does not have to be at the expense of the other since ours is not a closed economy. We can do both buy local and export more. |
| Re: US Exports To Nigeria Jump 60% Amid Trump's Tariff by COMPAQ(m): 3:05pm On Jan 27 |
DaddyJapan:This punch article unnecessarily long, repetitive and doesn't even analyse what the components of each countries imports and exports were in those 2 years i.e what have we imported more off. Typical lazy, clueless Nigerian journalism. |
