Rent In Nigeria Is Not For The Weak by Fharahyiola(op): 8:57am On Jan 29
One year rent + agent fee + agreement + caution fee 😭

Sometimes I wonder:
At what point does owning a house become cheaper than renting in Nigeria?

Let’s hear your experiences.

That's how building a house in Nigeria is not for the weak too it's vice versa.

Owning a house in Nigeria especially in Lagos, can be compared to "Newton third law of Motion". (Which states that action and reaction are equal and opposite) Due to the fees associated to documentation process and charges accrued from Land use charge to Electricity/Meter to CDA levies to ... and so on and so forth.

Very accurate. The purchase is just the action — the reaction is documentation, land use charge, electricity, CDA levies, and endless “small small” payments. Homeownership in Lagos truly tests endurance.

That’s the painful part. You agree, then the billing starts — agreement fee, documentation fee, processing fee… extortion has been normalized.”

True. Whether you’re buying or building, it’s not for the weak. The process tests patience, finances, and mental strength.
