Nigeria Earns N55.5 Trillion From Crude Oil Sales In 2025 by dre11(op): 11:37am On Jan 29
Nigeria earned a total of N55.5 trillion from crude oil sales in 2025, according to an analysis of official production data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and crude price figures from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This figure represents an increase compared to the N50.88 trillion earned in 2024.

NUPRC data reveals that Nigeria produced a total of 530.41 million barrels of crude oil throughout 2025. Production levels fluctuated throughout the year due to operational disruptions, outages, and a gradual recovery in some oilfields.

The N55.5 trillion revenue was derived by multiplying the 530.41 million barrels of crude by the average crude oil price of $72.08 per barrel for 2025, with the conversion made using an exchange rate of N1,450 to $1.

Production figures showed strong starts at the beginning of the year, with 47.70 million barrels produced in January. However, production declined to 41.02 million barrels in February. Output picked up slightly in March (43.42 million barrels) and continued to rise in April (44.57 million barrels). The second quarter remained relatively stable, with minor increases to 45.04 million barrels in May and 45.16 million barrels in June.

In the third quarter, production peaked at 46.73 million barrels in July before dipping again in August to 44.47 million barrels. Production hit one of its lowest points in September at 41.69 million barrels. The final quarter saw a recovery, with production reaching 43.44 million barrels in October, 43.08 million barrels in November, and 44.08 million barrels in December.

Despite Nigeria’s crude output often falling below its OPEC quota during the year, favorable crude oil prices helped boost the country’s revenue. According to CBN data, Bonny Light, Nigeria’s flagship crude, averaged $80.76 per barrel in January 2025. Prices gradually decreased throughout the year, dropping to $65.90 in May before recovering to around $73 in June. The average price for the year stood at $72.08 per barrel.

Based on this average price, Nigeria’s total crude production of 530.41 million barrels in 2025 generated approximately $38.23 billion in gross revenue. When converted using an exchange rate of N1,450 to the dollar, this translates to N55.5 trillion.

Industry analysts noted that this figure represents gross revenue, not actual government receipts, as it does not account for various deductions such as production costs, joint venture cash calls, production-sharing contract costs, oil theft, or domestic crude supply obligations.

Nonetheless, the analysis highlights the significant scale of crude oil revenue generated in 2025 based on official production data and price benchmarks, emphasizing the critical role that both stable production and favorable prices continue to play in Nigeria’s oil-dependent economy.

In 2024, Nigeria produced 408.68 million barrels of crude oil, earning an estimated N50.88 trillion from crude sales.

Thank you for posting this, I was just about to address this aspect, If Nigeria earned 55 trillion from only crude oil sales alone then where did all the money go to?

The total earning of 2025, from tax, crude oil, gas and every revenue was 10 trillion.

it is either APC government headed by Tinubu have stolen most of the money or they have borrowed most of the earnings from the past through loans(including Buhari), if so, Nigeria is only getting only less than 10% of the 55 trillion because of bad governance...

How much of it is profit?

The oil does not come out of the ground by magic
It costs money to produce

That cost in Nigeria is one of the highest in the world

Crude oil production costs in Nigeria are significantly higher than in Saudi Arabia, with estimates as of early 2025 placing Nigeria between \(\$25\) and \(\$48\) per barrel, while Saudi Arabia maintains one of the lowest costs in the world at around \(\$2\) to \(\$10\) per barrel.

The oil companies also take a WHOOPING SHARE of the profit

Let us not kid ourselves

When you hear information process it and analyse
Don't just react

55 trillion naira is consistent with 1. 5 million barrels a day at $65 a barrel

Daily revenue: ~$97.5 million

Annual revenue: ~$35.6 billion

$35.6 billion × ₦1,518 ≈ ₦54.0 trillion per year

Less cost of production
Assuming Two scenarios
$10
$15

| Cost/barrel | Net Daily (₦) | Net Annual (₦) |
| ----------- | ------------- | -------------- |
| **$10** | ~₦125bn | ~₦45.8tn |
| **$15** | ~₦114bn | ~₦41.6tn |

That is the profit

MIND YOU CIST OF PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA IS A LOT HIGHER
FACT CHECK MY ANALYSIS

How much of that goes to the oil companies
How much is left ?
Maybe $20 billion or 30 trillion. Naira if which the Federal Government keeps half and the states the other half

I am sorry that is not a Whooping amount of money in a country of 200 million people

It is a shame people will claim they went to school, have a smartphone and cannot ask basic questions
Re: Nigeria Earns N55.5 Trillion From Crude Oil Sales In 2025 by being(m): 2:20pm On Jan 29
This is revenue from total crude sales.. Of which profit is around half (+/-) of this revenue.. Also, not all the oil belongs to the govt (through NNPC) . It's usually around 55,60% (JVs) of the oil that belongs to NNPC.. The operating companies(shell, exxon etc )own the rest. Though they also pay royalties and taxes from their own share of crude. So the amount that might accrue to the coffers of the Federal govt from this total revenue should be almost 40% of this total revenue figure.

Snake oil merchants at it again. So how come the government failed to fund the 2025 budget? Why did Wale Edun told us that the budget had a deficit of 30 trillion naira. A revelation that cost him his ranking in the cabinet. Where did the money go?

You are correct
Where there can be improvement is to ensure more local content in infrastructure and inputs so that more of the money circulates in Nigeria
The FPSO platforms, pipelines, helicopters and a lot more can be made or have significant local content input in Nigeria
