KADUNA – A viral photograph showing a high-ranking officer of the Nigerian Navy kneeling before controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has ignited a fierce national debate over military decorum and institutional integrity.

The officer, identified as Commodore A.M. Grema, was captured in full military uniform performing the submissive gesture during a courtesy visit to Gumi’s residence in Kaduna. He should have just rendered a proper salute 🫡 because Gumi was a retired military personnel. He retired with the rank of a captain.

But squatting to greet him is wrong. I don't support this unprofessional kind of homage. There's probably more to this than meets the eye.
