Nollywood actor arrested for alleged role in coup plot to topple Tinubu

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the actor was hired to play the role of a propagandist by the alleged coupists who planned to assassinate top government officials.

Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi was arrested alongside military officers accused of planning a violent overthrow of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, PREMIUM TIMES can report.

Mr Amandi, a director and former chairperson of the Enugu State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was arrested in September 2025.

This is the first time the actor’s alleged role in the alleged coup plot is being made public.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the actor was hired to play the role of a propagandist by the alleged coupists who planned to assassinate top government officials last year.

About the Arrested Filmmaker

Mr Amandi has featured in many Nollywood movies and is known for his work as an actor, production manager and director.

His notable works include “The Album,” where he served as director; “Tiger King,” where he also served as director and produced in 2008; “Cornerstone,” produced in 2019; and “Once Upon a Dream,” in which he appeared as an actor in 2024.

Mr Amandi’s last Instagram post was on 19 September 2025, shortly before his arrest.

Very very unusual for coup ploters to involve people outside their sphere, except for financing.

I just hope this is not true...I doubt what a nollywood actor and a 'bloody civilian' has to do with coup!He can't sponsor a coup from his meagre earnings from nollywood. Time shall tell!

Nice of from the Nigeria government.

I know they will surely involve themselves in anything to destabilize the country.

One of the biggest mistake Baba Buhari did then was not picking those actors that turned EndSARS protest into a big chaos by using fake zobo colored Nigeria flag and doctored videos to instigates violence across Nigeria which Lagos State suffered most.

He probably wasn't a main part of the coup, he probably just thought he was doing a negative PR job for his sponsors.

I have a vague recollection of some girls who were arrested for their negative press against someone and it turned out they were paid by a 3rd party to do it. This is probably something like that.

Now whatever amount he was paid will not be enough to get out of the problem he has entered.

He was likely promised the role of tourism minister. This will be the first twenty-first century coup experienced in Nigeria.
