Pakute:
The Nigerian Naira continued to record gain against the US dollar during the midweek trading session with the currency dropping below N1,400.

On Tuesday, the local currency hit monthly highs in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), where the exchange rate settled at about N1,400.66 per dollar.

But the appreciation continued yesterday when the currency settled 1,394, the highest gain in recent times.

The currency had already made significant gains in the previous session, ending at N1,401.2/$.

The parallel market, also known as the black market, responded more calmly amid the official foreign exchange market’s quick gains.

Analysts observe that the local currency premium decreased compared to naira volatility, even though the difference between the official and parallel rates still exists.

The naira has continued to appreciate in early 2026, keeping the momentum it established in 2025 (the naira enjoyed a decade high performance of 7%-9% against the USD in 2025).

“The dollar’s supremacy is cracking, and markets are building an escape route,” warns the CEO of one of the world’s largest independent financial advisory organisations according to a report.

The warning from Nigel Green of deVere Group comes as a sell-off in the US dollar has gained momentum after President Donald Trump says he isn’t concerned by the currency’s dramatic falls in recent days, as fears in currency markets intensify over the president’s erratic policymaking.

The uptrend in Nigeria’s currency at the official market is not unconnected to the continued rise in the country’s foreign reserves, which stood at $46.04 billion as of 26th January 2026. The naira has recorded gains in the past two trading days at the currency market.

Only wailers and bitter people will think that way truly, as you said.

A-looter Propaganda Congress, APC hailers will be hallucinating that the rate is actually N300/$1, because their tingod has used the $84 billion subsidy savings and the SPV Afreximbank $3.3 billion loan to defend the currency as he promised. grin

To each his own, innit huh

That Rewane is clueless about this matter.

Our president knows better and even knows best.

The actual value is N300 to a dollar already and it will be N200/$1 by May 2027.

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

Surely APC's balablu monster is a brilliant strategist un;like the korofo soldier he made president in 2015, four years after calling him expired.

Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to ensure that the naira would be equal to the dollar in value if voted into office.

NAN reports that Buhari said this on Monday during the south-east presidential rally of the party at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar. This does not speak well for the nation’s economy,” he said.

He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected.

Obidients will be very sad with this news. My condolences to my Obidient neighbour who listened to Aisha Yesufu and Rufai Oseni, and bought dollars at 1650/per $ with customers’ funds in the hope of selling at 2000/$ since 2024. He has been hiding since then, hoping for a miracle to push the rate back to 1650/$, him say him no want profit again .
Have you noticed they no longer shout “buy the dip” again? All those who bought it have ended up in losses, God bless Cardozo, the slayer of Obidients

Very bad analysis, labelling people with bad names while you are the carrier ..

Firstly, those people you are calling bitter people, witnessed when Dollar was #180 per Naira...

They also witnessed when your Master TINUBU was campaigning and shouting that it was fraud that Naira is #180 per dollar, that APC will make it #50 per dollar and education will be for free under Buhari's Government....

Today, your Master is in that Seat, and you want us to see that Naira is #1350 as a blessing upon Nigeriahuh?

Like how wicked can you all be actually that you want us to see this as a progresshuhhuh
I witnessed when #100 naira was $150. I should have fried stone or wail like the useless cry babies of Nigeria when it started falling in the 90's?

It means that our economy has started to react to global economic events. Before now it was not so. It was armchair fixing of rates. Very archaic. Kudos to the monetary and fiscal authorities for their efforts to modernize our economy.

Your point will ONLY make sense if subsidies weren’t removed.

ALL the 3 Candidates in the last election promised to remove subsidies which was like a CANCER to our economy.

I understand most of us here are educated fellas. It pains me when people fail to conduct thorough research. The Naira is appreciating, not because the Nigerian government is doing anything extraordinary, but because the US dollar is falling against all currencies, and according to some news outlets, it appears to be a deliberate act by the American government. They were even urging China to allow the Yuan to appreciate and show its true value. It's part of their competitive strategy against China.

Our economy has always reacted to rates and it was an extremely volatile reactor. This downward trend of the dollar has absolutely made not difference to our useless naira. Dollar spiralled down against most currencies
