The little boy is the hero here... he fell, and was in the well for over 30 minutes before help came, he survived the fall, and survived the water in the well.
The man only went inside the well to pick him up. If the boy could survive the fall into the well, then I see no reason why rescuing him should be that of a big deal.

Mistakenly it slipped away from my hands and into the well. Poor me wanted to dive and catch it, tripping me to almost fall inside the well.
