Before econet was mts firstwireless, they were allocated 0801, but the project died at early stage hence so many did not get to know about it.
SSpeter:
Yeah he did. MTN was a boutique telecoms company in SA, he wasn't the first mover though Econet was, but he mastermind the entrance of MTN (small at that time) to the Nigerian space

This story exaggerates the role of the good old man. He did well, but they make it sound like he founded MTN in Nigeria or single handedly brought it to Nigeria.
He did. He moved the needle. Without him, MTN wouldn't get that licence at that time.

Na lie!
If he was, he would have ensured every staff is from your ugwu land, just like his failed Diamond bank.

MTN brought their cash from South Africa .
You are ignoramus.. no foreign investor can start a business in Nigeria without an indigenous investor... Guess you lack the knowledge of basic economics. Google what nationalisation means..come back and delete that rubbish you typed

Yes you are sounding like a typical ronu werey that never believe or always ready to downplay that any igbo man will have such remarkable achievmeent. Only you have been running around the thread talking what nobody asked you. Even the chief tribalist like helinues, madrid guy and others kept quiet but you no fit hide your pepper body. nawa oh. The day mike adenuga was celebrated i never knew he crashed the price of the telecom service in nigeria and i so excited and imagined the kind of technocrat brain he has to achieve that.

PS: Go and make your generation proud and leave tribalism again.

Alright alright alright.
Perhaps I shouldn't have said so. Maybe I am the one now sounding as though I am downplaying his role, which no one should.

I think his brother Afam Edozie brought in MTN

This is your reaction to a humble retraction? Please dont assume me a tribalist. I am not. I have railed against tribalism - especially anti-Igbo tribalism on this forum constantly. I hate it.

I should not have said what I said. I have taken it back severally.
I cant remember how many times I took board papers to Pascal at his home in the early days of MTN, so I should not be the one to say anything downplaying his role.

He is late now he died April 2025. He ran a good race. He came he saw and he conquered. Sure he is resting in peace knowing very well that his offspring are enjoying the fruits of his labour.

It's a pity that one of his sons who studied business administration in the US and is wasteful, knowing the old man is now weak, mobilized a family pressure meeting to encourage him to hand over the riegns of diamond bank to him to manage..

He refused. but after much pressure from evryone and a seemingly first hand experience he allegedly got through his deputized Yoruba guy who leads the bank effectively on his behalf.. he believed the young man..

The young man instead went into flamboyant lifestyle , failed to constantly monitor the banks other executives and ran the bank amock..

The bank was flagged by the CBN for instability, he caution his son ND tried to bright back his fmr assistance who refused to come back.. he fought foot and nail to get the bank to be healthy again

Yes , he succeeded, but it was during Emefiele era, yes, during wigwe the connection man era.. their eyes were already on his bank to take over. Meaning, no matter what he does, he will b ordered to sell the bank
.

He painfully sold the bank he created from scratch and cried in a national t. V show... Wigwe the connection man bought it over straight and expanded access..

His careless son then delved into the then emerging fin tech world and created the fintech bank "carbon" which didnt also fly..

He was paid the enourmous value of his bank.. but that is not what he wanted.. he wanted a dynasty...

It is almost certain that wigwe will die someway or the other.. he broke alot of heart with his connections..

Also his heartbreaking forceful purchase of intercontinental bank.. using emir sanusi..

Wigwe hurt alot of people and so u know his end will come sooner rather than later
Wigwee yes, but especially that monstrous AIG. These guys were vipers, and the bigger viper among them is still alive. Rapacious monsters who abused Nigeria's weak institutions to deploy so-called connections to their advantage. That's why a mere shark (Access) could swallow two whales (intercontinental and Diamond).

Since they ultimately became richer than all the deities in their respective villages, it is ironic that the money could not buy godlike immortality for one, and certainly subsequently for the other.

Didn't hurt more people than Tinubu, and didn’t kill anybody like Tinubu. But Tinubu is alive and president (though falling down all over the place grin). So it is not by hurting people

If you are calling Peter Obi a fraud, what will you call a person who graduated from a school 4 years before the school was built?

And somehow you happen to support that person without your conscience pricking you?
LOL - please remind me who graduated form a school 4 years before the school was built?

If you are happy to interrogate this claim, compared to making baseless accusations like your fraudulent principal, I am happy to indulge you.
