It is.
This is what Nigerian institutions should be doing.

Using Nigerian elites to showcase their structures to the world.

Congratulations!

Beauty ain't enough but quality of the graduates. Statistically, ABU has produced the larger population of thief thief incapable politicians and civil servants than any other Universities in Nigeria. The likes of Atiku Abubakar , Yahya Bello, El Rufai, Namadi Sambo, Nnemadi Usman, Dino Melaye, Ibrahim Shekarau, Adamu Muazu, Mansa Mukhtar etc......most of these politicians are klepto...I rest my case....Up ABU........

It is a pity core Northerners do not value Western education.
They called it "Haram"

Indeed its beautiful.
Once I attended Medical students convention in that school those days and I marveled at d architecture. They use lift to assess some buildings...senate building, office of d VC, and few others.
And u know that lift uses electricity and it means there's steady power supply.
They wet the grasses even in rainy season.
ABU zaria and zungeru campuses were far more beautiful and well planned than UNN of that time.
I don't know of today though.

We have some of the most beautiful universities campuses in Nigeria; compared to Harvard with crumbling structures and rooms that have to be renovated often to keep them in shape. Nigerian universities are more modern compared to Harvard or others.

Our only problem is maintenance. A disease well spread all over the country. Take Lagos for example, workers clean the streets all night. By the afternoon, it is back to dirt!

1. I see the quality roads with concrete pavements that are being built around the country by Dave Umahi led team. Anytime I’m going to my state I see it along Lokoja. When I get to my state, Ondo, I see the ongoing work along Ondo—Ore, I see it along Akure—Ado Ekiti, I see it in the coastal side of Ilaje, I see it along Ado Ekiti—Ikare and I am glad with the approval and flag off of the Ilesa—Benin road that will pass through Akure, our state capital. There has never been a time I witnessed that level of construction by the FG going simultaneously in my home state. And a similar thing is happening in Abuja where I am based too.

2. I see the progress of works being done on the Lagos—Calabar coastal highway as well as the Sokoto—Badagry superhighway. They’ll be the most outstanding infrastructure that our country will ever know. Serious infrastructure that we admire in foreign countries are beginning to spring up around us, and it makes me proud.

3. I have many examples of young people who have benefited from the Students Loans scheme. In the last one year, I don’t think I have heard story of any student that dropped out of school on account of their inability to pay. That’s a milestone achievement for this generation. It’s a big win for humanity. Someone like me who has in the past worked as the administrator of an NGO that people looked up to for help to pay school fees time to time, must appreciate this noble gesture, because in that regard, my eyes have seen and my ears have heard a lot of heartbreaking stories of events that reduce young people’s chances at life.

4. My Local Government Chairman has been executing projects that his predecessors could not carry out. When I inquired to know what’s responsible for that, I learnt there’s increased allocation to the LGA as a result of the autonomy fought for, and facilitated by President Tinubu. It’s not effective the way we want it to be yet, but evidently there’s improvement from what it used to be. Hopefully with persistent pressure from Tinubu, the third tier of government will break free from the hook of the state governments.

5. I live in Cadastral Zone, FO1 Main Estate, Kubwa, Abuja and I can confirm to you authoritatively that power supply has improved in my area. Same for my place in Alagbaka Akure. Therefore, although it comes at a higher cost but we are getting value for what we pay for—just like our mates that are living abroad. As a matter of fact, I gave out my generator to a Fulani friend, Yusuf Kembu, since last year—because I have no reason to keep it.

6. I see the far reaching reforms in the processing of our international passports such that over 200,000 backlog of applications that were left by Aregbesola were cleared within 3weeks, and today, we can apply for passport from the comfort of our home and it will take less than 2weeks to get it, unlike when we had to wait for 3-4months. I also see the various reforms being put in place by the ministry of interior to assist with border surveillance. In fact, this is the only time I know the ministry is living up to its responsibilities.

7. I see the digitization process at our airports. I was still at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja last week Tuesday. I noticed the infrastructure upgrade and enhanced security too.

8. I see the Federal Institute of Aviation Technology that’s about taking off in my state capital, and I am aware same is being replicated across the six geopolitical zones. Nigerians don’t necessarily have to travel abroad for studies in aerospace and aeronautics engineering.

9. I witnessed the takeover of our Ondo State University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Akure by the Federal Government in a bid to expand the infrastructure capacity, staff strength, medical supplies and efficiency—to deliver greater services. As a matter of fact, the work has started at the facility. And I am aware a similar thing is happening across many states.

10. I received higher dividends from my share investments in Nigerian companies. I can count a lot of my friends too who made unprecedented gains from their stocks in different Nigerian entities—an indication that our economy is viable and attractive to investors. Matter of fact, our foreign reserve too has increased by over 30%

11. With the new banks’ recapitalization, improved digitization in the financial sector as well as the new tax reforms, I see the direction the Tinubu government is going—a credit based economy that will uplift the standard of living of the citizenry, so that we can live the life we want today and pay tomorrow like it happens in advanced countries across the world.

We may not be there yet, but to deny that Nigeria is not moving in a direction that is promising, can only be as a result of two things—whether such commentator is not well informed or they’re denying the reality to suit their political sentiments.

There are actually a lot of educated and learned northerners you know. The thing is, they don't often come into the public space, which is why we don't see or hear much about them. The ones that mostly make it to the public space are the one on the other sides, they are still Nigerians but Gosh they can be stain on the face on the nation sometimes.. If it's school aboki deh go school well well.. deh even encourage it more, but the reality is, education no deh their blood and not their first priority. Gaskia ni.. It is not a huge part of their duty. While some do learn, or even teach, it is not seen as major prospect to a fulfilled life, so it not easily acknowledged. And the ones that actually do go to school, are always very brilliant, as a matter of fact only their best actually proceed with western education, but then again after all the learning and training, they always do go back home and go on about their life and day as normal as it is.. maybe they brag among themselves I don't know but it doesn't seem likely much as even professors, you will still see them hanging around their friends who are menama mallams and still drinking evening ginger tea together.. that said, kudos to ones who still value education.
Thank you for this... quite enlightening for whoever want to get enlightened.

Whenever people make such snide comments about the North and their seeming educational "backwardness", I point them to Dangote.

You don't see anything remarkable about him-i mean he's just like a regular Daddy who goes out to earn a living without the "money na water noise" that some people are so accustomed to and there are so many northerners who are doing well for themselves but choose the comfort of obscurity!

A Northerner said why they were afraid Western education would turn them into Christians.

I blame Northern governors for paying lip service to it. Despite the low number of students in their public schools, the quality of education is lamentable. You could deduce that from those Chibok girls who were barely literate.

If those who went to school received quality education, it would be a way of encouraging schooling.

Problem with ABU is that they
never go for the best when it comes
to appointing a VC..

The religious politics of the region always
make sure that the VC must be a
northern Muslim, preferably from Kaduna
state as if its an Islamic university.

Since the inception of the university, only
3 ( Islamic politics made sure the 2nd Christian didn't do more than one year) Christians have been made VC. First indigenous VC of the institution was Ishaya Audu, who was probably the only northern academic professor at the time,
therefore there was no other choice.

I'm so proud to read this. So for people saying that it's Obi or Atiku they want to support, just know that you are on your own. Come next year, Asiwaju is winning the election!!! For the governors in opposition to follow Tinubu like that, there must be a reason and some of them are here above.
