In all their baldersash, a whole FMC hospital(secondary facility fa) lost a patient who was still conscious on arrival to snake bite? Are they trying to rubbish the claim by those who heard them say they didnt have the anti snake venom injection on arrival? They were just beating about the bush. This has confirmed my several stances on the state of federal institutions nationwide. They're mostly glorified hospitals with nothing to care for patients in the event of emergencies. Most doctors have relocated overseas yet, awon alailẹri okan will be showering praises on this failed apc-led administration. Eni to ku, tie lo gbe ni Nigeria.

The trend continues. No hospital will ever own up in Nigeria in a situation like this. One thing is real, karma.

There was a time I had severe pain on my leg and was given referral to FMC. The guys there say I should fill form and come back the following week to see a specialist. I was confused. With the pain I'm feeling, I should carry it till next week. I collected the referral and took it back to my people. They gave me another one to a private hospital in garki and those ones attended to me promptly

Wow,this is eye opening... So sad the country does not prioritize important issues.

Dogalmighty17:
Providing CPR on a snake bite victim? This only further pushes the venom deeper into the body.
The first question any competent medical professional will ask is, what kind of snake bit her? This will quickly narrow down and pinpoint the most effective anti-venom for that particular kind of snake.

The shameful disgrace of Nigeria is that the whole federal capital territory doesn't have a centre equipped with anti-venom that any hospital across Abuja can call and have it available in minutes.

Abuja is expanding. It is inevitable that this expansion will reach areas that certain wildlife have long regarded as home. These displaced animals, snakes inclusive, start entering residential areas. The case of the Airforce personnel who got bitten by a snake that crawled through her soak-away into her toilet, is fresh in memory. Her house was built in a freshly claimed area.

Yet just a 45 minute drive from Abuja, along the Abuja-Keffi expressway, is a snake farm owned by a retired Chief of Army staff. The most evil CAS this country has ever had. Snake venom is steadily harvested from that farm and shipped abroad.

Straight to the point... The health sector in Nigeria is in such a sorry state that even the barest minimum can't be obtained. How low can we go?!!!

Your experience is a serious pointer to failed leader, politocal leadership.

We cannot have corrupt and incompetent leaders and expect honest, competent citizens. While I agree that the leaders are a reflection of the masses, it is pertinent for us to note that to change a society or an organisation, we need leaders with the characters that entity desires. Leadership impacts tremendously on a people. Even GOD Almighty places utmost emphasis on leadership. The sins of leaders usually rob on their societies.

Some peeps expect the masses to change, while they continue to support and vote for wicked, corrupt, and incompetent leaders. This is madness. It won't work.

Positive change is better from top-down. Any change from down-up will definitely be violent and catastrophic.

The above is what APC supporters have failed for grasp.

Re: FMC Abuja Reacts To Death Of Ifunanya Nwangene by Reference(m): 10:24am On Feb 02
I won't be passing judgement because the facts remain unclear.

Yes, FMC Jabi and many public hospitals and medical centers represent the shoddy state of the country. But we don't know the condition in which she arrived their A&E.

And the problem with accidents and medical emergencies in Nigeria surrounds two basic things.

One. The lack of knowledge of proper first aid.
Two. The lack of ambulance services.

I was speaking to a medical professional sometime ago about this matter. That it is shocking that the government cannot institute ambulance services in major cities of this country in any meaningful way, shape or form.

Most of the answers to the question of efficient healthcare starts with the speed of response and the knowledge of where to get treatment. The management of ambulance services involve knowing where specific medical services are available and giving the victim the best possible chance of survival by administering first line care at the scene and in transit.

In this case if an ambulance system was available they will have a working knowledge of snake bite treatment and how to handle such cases on site, in transit and most of all, through their network they will know precisely which medical facility to take her to.

We have heard of many, many stories of people wandering around town, from hospital to hospital either looking for capacity or expertise to handle emergency cases, unfortunately many not making it due to this delay.

That is the function of an ambulance service. For a city as important and prestigious as Abuja this should be one of the priorities of the government as basic public services.

If I can from the comfort of my home today order food, groceries and what not, why is it rocket science for me to be able to 'order' life saving care.

All these medical jargons is to save their face. Government owned hospitals in Nigeria don't care. This is for those who don't use these hospitals. If you go to Luth in Lagos and see how accidents victims are packed on bare floors, then, you will understand that there is no hope for emergency situations in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the author of this information should have reserved his medical terminology for his fellow doctors and write what the agitated public should understand. This is how to communicate.
So whose fault is it that there's no bed space for patients? Is it that u people wake up and decide to hate doctors
Re: FMC Abuja Reacts To Death Of Ifunanya Nwangene by imhere: 10:31am On Feb 02
Hmmm...he didn't mentioned whether it's the hospital that provided the antivenom. In our own case, it was the person whom snake bite they sent to go and look for antivenom to buy. He bought one when I got there I was given a list of medicine to buy including antivenom. The hospital didn't have and the Pharmacy close to the hospital didn't have. I got it from a Pharmacy down the street. It was when I got there, the guy told me the man came himself to buy the antivenom

I was like how can you send a man who can to your hospital because of snake bite to go and be looking for where to buy antivenom.
This happened in Kubwa General hospital.

Won’t CPR be given to an arrested patient irrespective of what led to the cardiopulmonary arrest huh
So you know more than the Doctors there or you were told they didn’t take a history from her before she deteriorated?

Believe me, Nigerian doctors in government hospitals are not trying at all. Their attitude towards the patients is not good. They can abandon a patient in the middle of an operation when they hear go on strike.
But we are blaming the government for the rut in the hospitals and not the doctors. But the doctors need to put humanity in their services.

Even if you don't have children you'll definitely pay for your sin someday, and punishment doesn't end here on earth. There's life after death.......You'll still pay for your F- up when you arrive at the other side.

You are the sick one where in my statement did I justified politicians looting money?

You are the one using politicians corruption to justify Doctors not doing the work they signed up for properly.

There's no poor doctor in Nigeria, you won't see a doctor without a car and an house in Nigeria yet they keep demanding for more payments when they already earn fair enough.

They keep using politicians corruption to justify their own greed ,laziness and incompetence but it is very simple it they want the millions in politics they can switch and become politicians.

Although politicians are very corrupt which I'm not supporting but do you think it is very easy to become a politician in Nigeria ? Before you can even become a senator or even House of reps in Nigeria you must have already spent millions to acquire the ticket, not to even talk about campaign and the Election.

PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE ABUJA

CLARIFICATION ON RECENT EVENTS REGARDING THE CASE OF LATE IFUNANYA LUCY NWANGENE

We wish to address the circulating discussion on social media concerning the unfortunate case of Ms. Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene, who tragically passed away due to neurotoxic complications following a snake bite on January 31, 2026.

First and foremost, we express our deepest condolences to the Nwagene family during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of a loved one is never easy, and our thoughts are with them.

We want to clarify that the management team at Federal Medical Centre, Abuja acted promptly and with the utmost care upon Ms. Nwagene's arrival. Our medical staff provided immediate and appropriate treatment, including resuscitation efforts, intravenous fluids, intranasal oxygen, and the administration of polyvalent snake antivenom.

After a thorough but quick evaluation, it was clear that Ms. Nwagene suffered severe neurotoxic complications from the snake bite. Despite all efforts to stabilize her condition and transfer her to the Intensive Care Unit for further treatment, she experienced a sudden deterioration just before the transfer. Our team of professionals worked diligently to provide CPR and other life-saving measures; however, despite these efforts, we were unable to revive her.

We stand by the quality of care and dedication our team demonstrates daily. The claims of non-availability of anti-snake venom and inadequate response are unfounded and do not reflect the reality of the situation. We are committed to transparency and integrity in our practices and will continue to pursue excellence in patient care.

In light of these events, we encourage our community to engage with credible sources for information and updates rather than relying on social media speculation. We remain available for any further inquiries or clarifications.

Thank you for your understanding.

DR. BIOKU MUFTAU,
HEAD OF CLINICAL SERVICES
FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE, ABUJA
1st February 2026.
Chai, may her soul RIP, Amen.
