This is the Lagos that they don't want to show you. Very dirty state.

Everyday it's always this dirty.

Is this the mega city that tinubu built?

This is not mega city, it's mega shiitty.

Re: Why Is Lagos This Dirty - Photos by DeLaRue:
Those who criticise those asking this sort of question are wrong.

Where is all the over 3 trillion Lagos state budget being spent on huh

Also why can't local government be assigned the task and revenue to handle street and market cleaning. Why must most waste management tasks be centralised and controlled by the state government that is clearly incompetent. The State government should build incinerators and let local governments collect the waste.

The government has radio and TV stations. Instead of these entities discussing politics and gossip all day, they should be spending a lot of time on public education around issues of public sanitation.

And why are people who drop waste of any kind in streets and other illegal places not immediately arrested, taken to a mobile environmental court, charged and, if convicted, fined.

I just don't understand how we are governed in this country.

That's why I don't bother to vote. 99% of Nigerian politicians are incompetent.

Re: Why Is Lagos This Dirty - Photos by Kemetian: 12:00pm On Feb 02
Lagos has over 30 million people. The state government just doesn't make enough money to maintain the entire city, for now.

As they increase their IGR or internally generated revenue, they will do the needful.

THEY JUST NEED TIME.

Dey play

With all the heavy federal allocations and Internally generated revenue the state gets and you're still talking about giving the state more time .

Just dey play .

Sanwo Olu is just following the footsteps of his godfather as the second worst governor since 1999.

All Fashola and Ambode achievements as governors in Lagos state in terms of sanity have gone down the gutter by Pontius Pilate.

BRT buses are now driven by Danfo Drivers. That’s why we’ve seen more BRT buses in accidents during this regime than any before it.

All he does is go to parties, fly to Abuja, wear expensive wristwatches and wave at the plane of his godfather when he’s jetting out of the country and fly to the country his godfather is headed to receive him.

Worst governor I’ve seen in Lagos state since I was born.

You just talk without thinking.

How much is that money?

It's peanuts.

Go and see the annual revenue and budget of New York or London. We're talking tens of billions of dollars. Maybe hundreds of billions.

Lagos is lucky to get even 2 billion dollars a year.
Re: Why Is Lagos This Dirty - Photos by AMINDA: 12:07pm On Feb 02
Lagos is only going back to how it has always been under Tinubu and before that. Fashola was the only governor that actually did something to clean Lagos up. Even though Tinubu ended up claiming all his achievements.

Very true
Re: Why Is Lagos This Dirty - Photos by chatinent: 12:56pm On Feb 02
The people themselves are dirty. Yes we Nigerians are. But the same Nigerians will travel abroad and obey the rules.

Fashola and Ambode were the only governors who tried. This present pawn cannot spend a Kobo without pacifying his god who put him in power.

Maybe, for every Kobo spent, you must return 90% tithes.

I think they've shown that, more than any other state, in the last 30 years!

Sure, we can talk about the negatives, but Lagos is also a city with a world class air-conditioned city metro rail system, that's even being expanded.

THERE ARE ALSO GOOD THINGS HAPPENING IN LAGOS!!! undecided undecided

Get the street vendors to clean their environment or leave.
I don't understand how they are so comfortable sitting there in trash just like in Aba.

What % of buildings in New York, Paris and London lack pipe borne water and are therefore supplied with water from boreholes that are located in the same compound as soak away pits and septic tanks, despite 100 times growth in budget within 27 years, like the case of Lagos between 1999 to 2026 huh

What city in Nigeria is not like this or even worse in terms of the % that is unkempt because the 774 constitutional local governments are not employing well paid cleaners to keep everywhere neat huh

Do you expect any changes now that they are sharing their 20% of the federation account directly since July 2024?

leavegoodbehind:
STATUTORY FUNCTIONS OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 provides in the Fourth Schedule the main functions of Local Governments in Nigeria as follows: –

(a)the consideration and the making of recommendations to a State Commission on Economic Planning or any similar body on:
(i) the economic development of the State, particularly in so far as the areas of authority of the Council and of the State are affected, and
(ii) proposals made by the said Commission or body;
(b) collection of rates, radio and television licences;
(c) establishment and maintenance of cemeteries, burial grounds and homes for the destitute or infirm;
(d) licensing of bicycles, trucks (other than mechanically-propelled trucks), canoes, wheel barrows and carts;
(e) establishment, maintenance and regulation of slaughter houses, slaughter slabs, markets, motor parks and public conveniences;
(f) construction and maintenance of roads, streets, street lightings, drains and other public highways, parks, gardens, open spaces, or such public facilities as maybe prescribed from time to time by the House of Assembly of a State;
(g) naming of roads and streets, and numbering of houses;
(h) provision and maintenance of public conveniences, sewage and refuse disposal;
(i) registration of all births, deaths and marriages;
(i) out-door advertising and hoarding;
(ii) movement and keeping of pets of all descriptions;
(iii) shops and kiosks;
(iv) restaurants, bakeries and other places for sale of food to the public,
(v) laundries, and
(vi) licensing, regulation and control of the sale of liquor.

Apart from these exclusive functions, the function of Local Governments shall include participation of such Councils in the government of a state as respects the following matters:
(a) the provision and maintenance of primary, adult and vocational education;
(b) the development of agriculture and natural resources other than the exploitation of minerals;
(c) the provision and maintenance of health services; and
(d) such other functions as may be conferred on a local Government Council by the House of Assembly of the State.

As provided for in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Local Governments have functions and responsibilities assigned.
Some of these functions are performed exclusively by the Local Government like the maintenance of cemeteries, markets and motor parks. On the other hand, some other functions and responsibilities are performed concurrently with the State Government. Among these concurrent functions are primary education, agriculture, health and any other functions that may be conferred on Local Government by the House of Assembly of the State.

As can be seen, these various functions and responsibilities of Local Governments are quite enormous and demanding. The tragedy of the situation is that Local Governments have very limited and circumscribed sources of revenue to enable them execute meaningfully and effectively the functions and responsibilities assigned to them.

In my local government at Ajeromi Ifelodun in Ajegunle, we have not felt the presence of local government at all, take for instance, the road from otto – wharf to Achakpo have never been maintained for as provided in the constitution, the question begging for an answer, is what do the Ajeromi Local Government do with money that go to them?

HOW IS YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT?, express your mind if indeed they are working now that you know their functions.
