Good evening my oga's. I have an issue with the compressor of Honda Accord. The AC works but the compressor makes small whining sound. I told the technician to check and he concluded that I have to change the compressor. I asked if I can swap it but he claims that it is not possible. It chills but after a while, I perceive a smell and it stops when I switch it off. Any advice? |

Good morning people. Please I need help. Don't really understand what is happening to my 2003 Honda Accord EOD. It consumes oil alot. Note the car is not smoking and works fine with excellently chilling Ac. The problem is that once I change the engine oil, within three weeks there will be shortage. The oil level goes below the last hole on the oil dipstick. I use Total Quartz 20w 50 oil for the engine. Kindly assist and advise so I can know what to do. |
| Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by dru23(m): 6:52am On Feb 10 |
Crownofwealth:This is why we encourage people to follow owners manual at all times. That supposed to be using 5w20 and if na something thicker than 5w30 or 10w40. This is based if the engine the short small oil ...... That 20w50 is too thick to start with, and when using you supposed change am every 2500 miles... That been said the heavy thick oil has damaged the engine and thicker oil can't no longer work.... When using thicker oil like 20w50 constantly like that it will damage the engine to the point that thicker oil is no longer good to prevent from oil shorten... So the best thing is to replace the engine or sell it off. Fixing it is not advisable, cuz it is not guaranteed it will work longer than six months.. you taking a gamble |

The engine is working perfectly fine. I don't drive that car for far distance. I hardly drive it for one hour daily. dru23: |
| Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by flootintin: 1:04pm On Feb 10 |
dru23:Can vehicle using 20W50 be changed to 10W40 or 5W30? |
| Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Kaymax2222: 5:07pm On Feb 10 |
Crownofwealth:the fact that you don't drive it for long is even part of the problem cos that oil is very thick on cold start and to top it up you never really drive the car for the engine to be very hot for the oil to thin out and actually do the work of protecting your engine. |
| Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by dru23(m): 11:33pm On Feb 10 |
flootintin:Depending how long the 20w50 has been used .. ...but in such case better to use 10w40 full synthetic |
| Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by flootintin: 10:26am On Feb 11 |
dru23:To my knowledge, probably over 4 years. Changing to 10w40, any recommended brand? |
| Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by dru23(m): 10:32am On Feb 11 |
flootintin:Mobil 1 10w40 high mileage full synthetic.. the 10w40 will clean up any possible sludge or dirt in the engine.. But generally 20w50 is not advisable for use in any modern cars. Unless specifically states otherwise.. Just common sense that oil is too thick.... Once a car uses 20w50 I normally encourage not to switch to factory recommended oil na 50/50 |

So can you classify a 2003 car as a modern car? dru23: |

Good afternoon everyone, My car(eod 2005) vibrates whenever I turned on the Ac. But it doesn't vibrate during motion. The vibration do stop after some time even when stationary. |

To all gurus in the house, what is the effect of reintroducing thermostat which had run for years without it? Car is honda accord 2009 and pick it up last month. Had overheating issues 2 weeks ago, mechanic said radiator was blocked and did a flush. While bleeding the system after re-installation of radiator, discovered that the car had no thermostat. Before then, I know that the temperature guage raises and stays in the middle but now, after the flush, it takes a while for the guage to rise. I don't know how long ago the thermostat was removed and I want to be careful so as not the cause further issues on the engine. |
