Why blame the young Okoya?

Do not forget that he is a nepo-child who is used to getting whatever he wants without any stress.

That question is better answered by a lapo-child who knows the streets better.

Chai APC is the greatest calamity to have befallen this country. It's was a bubonic plague. To think in 2011 any Muslim who did not vote Buhari was seen as a fake Muslim. Buhari himself was crying that spaghetti was 80 naira. Not knowing he was crying because we were enjoying and living lavishly.

The fact he said he doesn't know the price of fuel and has never known it should tell you he is not qualified to even be asked such questions...

That was when Tinubu and A-looter Propaganda Conmen, APC told us that PDP was not doing well by us.

How much per litre is APC forcing us to subsidise the massive corruption in their oil sector now huh

anonimi:
Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

You have made a point but...Jonathan's economy wasn't 'glorious'.

No doubt - things are definitely worse under BAT but the same problems we have now were already there under GEJ. For example, corruption was a very serious problem then - as it is now. Remember GAVI? Remember the NNPC probe? undecided These days, Allison Madueke is still moving from one London courthouse to another - trying to avoid jail time. Jonathan did absolutely nothing then when he was in charge - and all this malfeasance was running rampant. undecided

The BAT administration has been an unmitigated disaster but the Jonathan administration was only slightly less incompetent. The difference between the two is the difference between six and half a dozen.

My
Racoon:
That quote from Wahab Okoya (son of billionaire industrialist Chief Rasaq Okoya) has sparked a massive debate for the exact reasons you’ve been pointing out. It’s a textbook example of the "disconnect" between elite perception and the ground reality.

In the interview (on the Cruise YouTube channel), he admitted he didn’t even know the current price of fuel in Nigeria until he was told it was "crazy." Shortly after, he made the comment about the government deserving more credit because the "change is so visible" to those who travel abroad and return.

Here is why that specific take is getting so much heat:
-1). The "Visitor" Perspective: He explicitly stated that the change is visible to those who "go to school abroad and come back." This implies that his metric for "better" is based on the aesthetic of the airport or major infrastructure projects in elite areas, rather than the purchasing power of the average citizen.

-2). The Subsidy Gap: For a billionaire's son, a spike in fuel prices is a "crazy" statistic. For the average Nigerian, it is a life-altering event that triples the cost of food and transport. Praising the government for "effort" while being shielded from the consequences of their policies is what people are calling a "poor mindset" or a lack of empathy.

-3). Credit versus Reality: While the government argues that reforms (like the removal of the fuel subsidy) are necessary for long-term growth, the immediate result has been record-high inflation and a plummeting Naira. Telling people who can't afford bread to "give the government credit" feels like "cosplaying" a commoner while living in a different economic universe.

It ties directly back to your point about fly shit. Real resources should buy you the ability to understand the system and solve problems, but here it seems to have bought an insulation that makes the struggle of 200 million people invisible.

Do you think it’s even possible for someone born into that level of wealth to have a "rich mindset" regarding the struggles of the general public, or is the bubble just too thick to pop?
If you really mean that Nigeria is better of now in these 3 years, I decree that your life and that of your entire generations and those that agree and support your comment be like Nigeria since 2015 to 2023, and let it greater than like from 2023 to who knows when,in the mighty name of Jesus, if you don't say a big Amen, let.........

Corruption is WORSE now under Tinubu and his APC predecessor who are borrowing more than PDP presidents, despite removing subsidy TWICE and saving trillions of Naira and billions of dollars as a result.

What else is Tinubu and APC doing with all the subsidy savings and loans apart from stealing it?

gabydaniels:
Aug 25, 2016
The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has disclosed that the federal government has so far saved the sum of N1.4 trillion for not paying oil subsidy.

He also assured Nigerians that very soon, the foreign exchange market would stabilise going by some radical policies already introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The vice president who spoke in Kano yesterday during the third day of the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development meeting, urged Nigerians to restore confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, insisting that soonest, the current economic problems would become a thing of the past.

“With the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, there has been a significant increase in the availability of petrol throughout the country for the savings of N1.4 trillion on subsidy payments alone,” he said.

“Also, a more flexible exchange rate regime, we will have to decrease the pressure on the external reserve. In the short run of course, there should be consequences for inflation. We expect that with greater priority we have seen in the implementation of the policy by the CBN, the foreign exchange market will stabilise and confidence will be restored.

Look for work in an economy that is bleeding unemployment to the point where Tinubu and APC are hiding the statistics even though they have adjusted the calculation basis?

Take a loan and start something to sell to people whose disposable income has been wiped out by Tinubu and APC hyperinflation?

Oga, abeg give better advice like that waist focused SINator did below.

Young man, 40 million people were thrown into poverty by Emilokan in the past 3 years.

China lifted 400 million people out of poverty within 10 years. Let’s keep an eye on Emilokan’s record when he’s leaving office. Our prediction is that he will eventually trap about 150 million or more Nigerians into abject poverty.

Very valid questions you have asked. Very valid points you have made. I lend my voice to them.

What I will not do is view the Jonathan years with longing, through rose tinted lenses - just because of BAT's unrivalled maladministration.

There are literally hundreds of threads on this platform about the misgovernance of the Jonathan years - his tolerance for egregious wrongdoing by senior cabinet officials, his lack of a moral compass, his indecision and vacillation on matters of principle etc.

Two things can be true at the same time. Some of us have always maintained that BAT wasn't the right man for the job and events have proved us right. We also spoke up then (way back) that Jonathan also wasn't the right man for the job - and events also proved us right.

The profligacy of the Jonathan years is part (not all, but part) of the reason we are where we are today. Of course, BAT has put the final nail in the coffin but it would be disingenuous to claim that things were great before he got into office.

If Tinubu is WORSE, does it not mean that Jonathan is bad huh

Who made Buhari president, four years after calling him expired?

Who led Yorubas to reinforce Buhari and APC failure in 2019, so he can have his own Emilokan turn four years later?

Are PDP administrations LESS corrupt than APC administrations huh

This is the issue at stake.

socialmediaman:
The 2018 Rating by Transparency International placed Nigeria at 148th position out of 180 countries. Nigeria was improving over the years under the previous government, until Buhari got elected as president, things became worse.

There is a difference between fact and fiction. We need to face facts, Buhari is worse than GEJ when it comes to fighting corruption, at least that’s what the facts prove.

Most of us believed there was corruption under Goodluck Jonathan’s Government. I agree with those who did, there was corruption, but not as bad as it is today under Mohammadu Buhari.

In 2012, Nigeria was placed at 139th position, In 2014, Nigeria gained 3 steps and was placed at 136th position. Under Buhari, Nigeria has lost many positions down to 148th.

There’s no further proof needed that corruption has worsened under Buhari’s government compared to previous years.
