| Help! I'm Going Deaf by DeclanR(op): 9:35am On Feb 06 |
Please Doctors, kindly come to my aid. WHAT HAPPENED I don't know if it's called Earpod, Earbud or Airpod, but it's all earpiece. So I bought a Bluetooth one, downloaded Spotify playlist app on my phone's playstore and began listening to jamz 24/7 except when I'm bathing. Even at work, I use it. I wasn't used to using accessories like this. So, I noticed a pain inside my right ear, later it became a boyl. I felt the pains, took Bicham ampiclox and after a few days, it disappeared. Now I can't hear with that ear any longer. I can only partially hear with it. HOW AM I FEELING ? In the ear, I feel like there's a blockage which is impeding sound. I feel like there's water in there. You know how it is when you're bathing and water enters into your ear? That's how the feeling is, right now. If I'm talking to someone, I feel there is an earpiece hanging in my ear, so I need to speak louder than normal. This is the Third day. I am worried.

DeclanR:We need more awareness about the danger of prolonged use of earphones 🎧... sorry op, your case should trigger the needed awareness. Your inner hair cells has probably been desensitized by prolonged exposure to sounds. . You are likely to suffer from noise-induce hearing loss which is often irreversible. Go and visit an ENT specialist at any teaching hospital for proper diagnosis and management plans. Thank you |

What you should get is hydrogen peroxide 3% for home use. Pour little inside your ear hold the place up for close to 10 minutes. Do that morning and night. It will kill the bacteria in there and fight off any infection and debris blockage. Hydrogen peroxide cost about 15k now. |

DSS1335:Absolutely... There are certain dangers especially with the wireless earbuds that have gained steady awareness over the last few years in other climes. This pertains to the increased risk due to the Bluetooth tech and it's reliance on EMF electromagnetic wave in proximity to the skull & then the earpieces itself trapping moisture in the ear canals leading to bacteria or fungal external ear infections. If you're aware of these, then there are steps you can take to minimise these risks. Some celebrities and sportsmen have openly stopped promoting such technologies for the adverse effects on them. |

DeclanR:I'm sure each time you increase the volume to max, your phone will bring up a prompt, warning you that high volume is capable of causing ear damage, but you think it's just a courtesy from the manufacturers, now you are seeing the purpose of the warning. Before you visit the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department of a General Hospital for proper treatment, first stop using any form of ear plug, avoid noises around you in church or party or from sound system, after sometimes you should begin to feel some relief in the ear, but if the condition is getting worse or no improvement, proceed to ENT for proper treatment. However, if you notice any liquid coming from the ear, get chloramphenicol ear drop immediately and follow prescription on the pamphlet. |

I'm not doctor. Go and meet a certified one at a hospital. What I can ask is did you turn the volume all the way up most period? |

DeclanR:Don't panic bro, just stop the use of earplugs and bathing under the regular shower head. Water do escape into your ear while you are under a shower, especially when the water of high a high pressure. I have been there, you will loose balance and incomplete... Use hand/cable shower head instead, that way you can manipulate where and how the water hits you. Exactly like the type below, or take water from the bucket(the normal old way)

| Re: Help! I'm Going Deaf by Drsnives(m): 8:37pm On Feb 06 |

| Re: Help! I'm Going Deaf by ajalawole(m): 8:41pm On Feb 06 |
Stop using it. That is early state of hearing impairment. Mine was noise in my ears after using earpod, been 10yrs nos the noise still in my ears and making it hard for me to hear people talking clear. Best is for you to visit an ETN specialist |
| Re: Help! I'm Going Deaf by Basicend: 8:44pm On Feb 06*. Modified: 9:06pm On Feb 06 |
The are some tiny filtering hairs inside of the ear drum that serves as protection against excessive noise waves. Excessive usage of earbuds/pods at high level volumes will gradually wear them out, and that results into your current situation. Once they are destroyed, you start getting a sound. Check the below YouTube clip FYI: https://m.youtube.com/shorts/gN22pnWqsv4 Don't use any drugs on it. Visit the hospital for further advice. |
| Re: Help! I'm Going Deaf by wunmi590(m): 8:45pm On Feb 06 |
![]() You have no much issue, just stop using the ear pod frequently. Go to a pharmacy, I mean original pharmacy, not a chemist, and explain to them, they will give you ear drop to use every night and morni g, between 2 weeks it will vanish... It happened to me just exactly how you explained it |
| Re: Help! I'm Going Deaf by ajalawole(m): 8:45pm On Feb 06 |
DeclanR:he is telling you the truth bro. Been 10yrs with my hearing impairment. I make use of hearing aids at time but I don't feel comfortable with it. Now if you talk and I don't hear I can ask you to repeat it. Somehow annoying |

| Re: Help! I'm Going Deaf by Nehemiah(m): 8:49pm On Feb 06 |
@Op I once experienced something similar. I highly suspect that there was damp condition in your ear canal as a result of long use of your ear piece and it resulted to fungus infection hence the uncomfortable feelings in your ear(s) right now. You could treat with antifungal cream, antibiotics and pain relief tablets. However, I strongly advise you see an Ear, Neck and Throat (ENT) specialist in a hospital for proper evaluation. I wish you a quick recovery🙏 |
| Re: Help! I'm Going Deaf by SixSeven: 8:50pm On Feb 06 |
Go and see a ENT specialist in the General Hospital where you live. Nairaland.com will not solve the problem for you. |
