Tinubu Launches National Halal Economy Strategy To Tap Global Market by seunowa(op): 4:34pm On Feb 06
President Bola Tinubu on Thursday launched Nigeria’s National Halal Economy Strategy, a policy initiative aimed at positioning the country to tap into the $7.7 trillion global halal market and accelerate economic diversification.

According to a statement from the Presidency, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, unveiled the initiative at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The policy is expected to add an estimated $1.5 billion to Nigeria’s gross domestic product by 2027, according to projections shared by the Presidency.

What they are saying
Speaking at the event, Vice President Shettima described the launch as a clear signal of Nigeria’s readiness to compete in the fast-growing global halal economy, which has already been embraced by several leading economies.

He said the strategy provides a defined roadmap for Nigeria’s participation in the halal market, which spans sectors such as food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, logistics, tourism, and finance.

According to the Vice President, the initiative reflects the government’s intention to align Nigerian capacity with global halal standards and convert emerging opportunities into sustainable economic value.

Shettima stressed that the success of the National Halal Economy Strategy would depend on disciplined, inclusive, and measurable implementation, particularly in delivering jobs and expanding export opportunities.

“It is with this sense of responsibility that I formally unveil the Nigeria National Halal Economy Strategy. This document is a declaration of our promise to meet global standards with Nigerian capacity and to convert opportunity into lasting economic value," he said.
He added that the next phase of the strategy must translate policy into action that drives shared prosperity across the country.

“What follows must be action that is disciplined, inclusive, and measurable, so that this Strategy delivers jobs, exports, and shared prosperity across our nation,” the Vice President stated.
Shettima also disclosed that the implementation of the National Halal Economy Strategy will be chaired by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole.

Flashback
Earlier this year, in January, President Tinubu, during his visit to the Republic of Türkiye, reinforced Nigeria’s commitment to developing a globally competitive halal ecosystem.

A major outcome of that visit was the signing of an Agreement in the Field of Halal Quality Infrastructure between Nigeria and Türkiye, aimed at strengthening standards, accreditation, certification, and quality assurance systems to enhance international acceptance of Nigerian halal products and services.

The government first announced plans to launch the Halal Strategy in 2024, projecting that it would add $1.5 billion to Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2027.

“The Halal economy represents a tremendous opportunity for Nigeria to diversify our economy, generate foreign exchange, and achieve sustainable growth.

“By increasing our Halal exports and focusing on strategic import substitution, we project an addition of nearly $1.5 billion to our GDP by 2027,”
Special Assistant to the President on Export Expansion (Office of the Vice President), Aliyu Sheriff, stated at the time.

What you should know
The halal economy refers to a global economic system comprising goods, services, and investments that are permissible under Islamic law (Shariah).

Valued at over $7 trillion, it extends beyond food to include halal pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, modest fashion, tourism, and Islamic finance, emphasizing ethical, sustainable, and hygienic practices.
The halal economy has evolved into a significant driver of global trade, with major hubs in Malaysia, Brazil, and Australia.

We have the labor, we have the land, we have the capital yet we lack one thing. A willing leadership.

One that would address core issues and cease showmanship.

If we so desire, we can become the biggest exporter of agricultural produce in the next 1 year.
If we so desire, we can take the pipeline contract from militants, tell them to get real jobs, and deploy drones and perimeter defense systems that cost less than pipeline security budget. Increase our quota and drive development.
Same can be done with solid minerals,
But no, we prefer luxury, affluence and stupidity.

Shame on Mr President, he is yet to roll up his sleeves and get to work.
What we need to be great lies within us.

The funny thing is that some of these countries like Türkiye, Qatar, Kuwait, etc. that are pushing third world countries to religious extremism, are not even implementing those same systems in their countries.

They just want to see the world destabilized.

Where Are The Cows? Is Evans A Herdsman?'

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

I am a silent admirer of a lot of the positive things BAT has been doing since he took the reins of power at Abuja. I told many of my friends back during the campaign period that Tinubu will do well if he comes in as President. So far, my expectations of him he has met.

Now, this whole what should I call it now? infatuation with Islamic things is what I 100% dislike. Nigeria is a secular country for a reason. Must we go the halal route to achieve the 1.5 billion dollars economy? are there not other sectors that can take us to this same level of economy - without invoking the Islamic angle to it - thereby arousing suspicion and negatively impacting the sensibilities of adherents of other religions in the country? Must this thing be championed at national level? I do not like this at all. And it should be stopped. Let the people involved in whatever religion they practice do their thing in their own corner without rubbing it in the face of others in the country!

It’s not about Islamic country. All of the people who produce our beef are Muslim and they raise their cow in a halal way and kill it in a halal way too. We will just be exporting the produce enmasse now. Even US is a big exporter of Halal. It is just tapping into a market that the producers already exist in Nigeria. All we need to do is give Fulani herders Sambisa Forest as their central cow grazing forest and create an environment where cows can be exported for all their valuable parts from a Government built or sponsored facility. They can provide them security, housing and even schools so they settle with their family.

Our cow leather is some of the most prized leather in the world and used by all the top designers. We just need to manage ourselves better and ensure the export of these resources are properly regulated and pricing structured to benefit the seller and the country.
