Man Arrested in Lokoja for Allegedly Attempting to Defile 14-Year-Old Daughter of Late Friend

A man identified as Ernest Obetule, said to be in his early 50s, has been arrested by security operatives in Lokoja following allegations of attempting to sexually exploit the 14-year-old daughter of his late close friend, Okpanachi.

The disturbing case came to light after the girl's family raised the alarm, leading to a sting operation that ended with the suspect's apprehension at a hotel where he had allegedly arranged to meet the minor.

Reports indicate that Ernest had publicly mourned his friend Okpanachi's passing on December 17, 2024, via a social media post where he described the deceased as "the last man who stood by him when all hope was lost." The tribute painted a picture of deep loyalty and brotherhood.

However, what began as concern for the welfare of his late friend's family quickly took a sinister turn. Sources close to the matter revealed that Ernest had obtained the girl's contact details legitimately while Okpanachi was still alive, during friendly visits to the family home. Such contact is often seen as harmless among trusted friends—allowing for guidance, support, or assistance in the parents' absence.

Tragically, this trust was allegedly abused. In recent days, Ernest reportedly initiated phone conversations with the teenager, gradually steering discussions toward her sexual preferences. According to accounts circulating online, he offered subtle praise for her responses, encouraged her to "make him happy," and explicitly inquired if she knew what a condom was—before proceeding to describe its use in graphic detail, behaviour widely interpreted as classic grooming tactics.

He then allegedly invited her to meet him at a hotel in Lokoja, promising ₦1,000 for transportation. When the girl confided in family members amid the inappropriate advances, they acted swiftly. Aware of voices in the background during one call—suggesting she was not alone—Ernest reportedly persisted undeterred.

The family coordinated with authorities, leading to the suspect's arrival at the hotel premises. He was arrested on the spot, with reports claiming a condom was found in his possession.

The girl's uncle, Offor Daniel Okpanachi, has since spoken out publicly, expressing shock and warning other families about the dangers lurking even among those considered "family friends." He emphasised the need for vigilance, urging parents to scrutinise the true intentions of people frequenting their homes, especially when young daughters are involved.

This case has reignited conversations about child protection, the betrayal inherent in exploiting grief and vulnerability, and the importance of open communication between parents and children. Many have questioned whether this is any way to honour a friend who stood firm during one's darkest moments.

Same scenario happened in kaduna too about a friend raping and defiling his friend daughter of about 14 years of age inside his said friend paternal home when his friend traveled to Abuja for a job quest living behind his daughter back home that's how the rapists called a friend gained access and molested the victim but all thanks as the case is still in court while the suspect is in prison awaiting trial now since 2022.
