No be me talk say a fool and his money are soon parted. It is not my place to insist what you have to do with your money but if I had that money, I would import clothes from Vietnam and household items and some car parts from China, then let the money work for me instead of forcing myself into a society that will not accept me, chain me into their economic machine while loneliness will become my middle name.

I am planning of travelling to the UK for my Msc programme. My main purpose of travelling is as a means of jakpa not that I really need the Msc. I sold the land i bought in Asaba in 2018 for N22m. I plan to use the money for the tuition fee deposit ( £5,000) and other travel expenses. The complete tuition fee is £15,330. I will study and work in other to pay the remaining balance.

My plan is to remain in the UK and work after my study. Please I need your advice.
Investing that sum into a business here will yield a far better return than if you leave.

The issue now is whether you're familiar with business? If not, that money will disappear in the twinkle of an eye. You could invest in businesses that are hard to fail such as a business centre in a high traffic location but you must watch your staff.

If you want to japa, then Japa. Dont use the student route. It backfires a lot. How will you raise the balance of your fees. This is a common nightmare amongst student. That 20 hour work week won't provide enough cash to cover tuition.

Rather, It is best you find out countries that need migrant labor and focus your mind on how to get those jobs.

A younger brother is now in Germany. An NGO in Germany brought him over. He found it hard, bit he is adapting. I'm certain he has the right to stay.

Find skills that are hot demand and focus on them. Learn trades such as hairdressing for example.

I was in the UK some years back for holiday.

If people say avoid going to the UK, it's a total waste of resources because the UK of now is not the UK of before, the reply would be "don't listen to blockers of Japa, destiny etc" ...

Please sir you are free to do your own research and make your decision.

My brother if your intention is to japa to UK just jettison the idea. UK has been changing/changed their immigration rules its doesn’t favour post masters students anymore, max 6months or so you’ll be asked to leave/change status. My both siblings with their spouses are there.. both spouses completed their masters last year but UK govt no gree extend their stay.. one of them even had to recently move to another country.

My suggestion:
1. Do business here although you can still travel.. there’s good business proposal I can connect you with that’ll earn you really good returns.

2. Try another European country such as Spain, Germany, Scandinavian countries (Sweden/Norway) for Masters. They can extend your stay from student to residency.

the problem with that 22million naira is that if you're not well-trained in business, since you are Igbo, if you didn't do "igba boy", learn under a successful business master, for some years, then its a huge risk because the business may fail. If you don't have a successful coach in the line of business you're choosing who has accepted to mentor you the business may fail because as you are learning the ropes and making mistakes, you may be losing money and by the time you've fully learnt the ropes, the money may be depleted to a level you need to borrow or sell land again to restock enough and make impact. Moreso because Nigerians are poorer now and due to inflation, can not afford most things they use to afford before. Very high inflation so many people can't afford things so make very good inquiry on what is selling under this inflation economy before you key into it. Otherwise if you're afraid of all these risks and didn't grow up in a business background, my brother carry the money and japa. If you exhaust it in UK, if you are hardworking you can gain back the money by buying another land in another remote area, or investing in other things that will increase your savings earned from UK hustle, at least you'll be in environment where if you blow the money, you have hope of remaking it in no distant time. Annoying thing with Nigeria is if you blow any huge money, e fit take you 10 years or more to remake it back legitimately unless you're into fraud or politics or hard drug sales. So in otherwords it is very risky to lose in business in Nigeria because there is no support or another means of making it back. Still, some people still succeed in business while some others lose. The economy is just so messed up but some people still make it in the economy, while others don't. Its your choice to make. If you're willing to go to UK, be ready to work and work very very hard . And if you're ready to stay in Naija, be ready to endure if the money goes down cause another opportunity go hard.
So money is very easy to make in UK....A guy just left UK after 4 years of heavy work in warehouse. He made 2000 pounds and a lot of credit...Bro, diligently invest your money in Nigeria. Dont sell credit, scout for product with immediate demand, buy from china like your co Igbo brothers. You will ever be happy and if you are a risk averse person put it mutual fund and continue your regular hustle

why do we always place our kids in the centre of Jakpa? Why can't the jakpa be because of us? Why always because of our kids?

If you jakpa because of kids, the kids will grow to forget you because kids raised abroad tend to drift away from their parents when they clock 18 and above.
Because growing up some of us struggled because of lack of opportunities, harsh environments, government that doesn’t care about its citizens.. so whenever we have chance to give our kids a better life , I think we should take it .. you are doing it for them and also for yourself

The way people just casually say they will study and stay back after study. It's not easy like that my brother. Many people have been forced to go back to their countries after study because they couldn't secure sponsorship that will make them stay back.
Do you have a solid plan in place to retain u in UK after finishing your studies?

Do as you have planned. Never allow anyone deceive you into agreeing to waste that substantial amount in Nigeria. The business environment in Nigeria isn't friendly.

This is the first time I would be advising someone on Jarpa as someone that Japad 3 years. My bro, anyone advising you to stay back in Nigeria to do business with that money should be considered an enemy.

I have not been to other European countries aside the UK where I live but I can tell you UK still remains one of the best destinations to japa to particular someone from an English speaking country like Nigeria.

People from other European countries also japa to the UK and do menial jobs, these people do not have good words for their home countries like Nigerians. Immigration from those European countries were becoming a problem to the UK that the UK had to among other reasons leave the European Union to stop the free movement.

Only very few countries in Europe comes close to the UK like Germany or France but you will suffer from language barrier and racism.
Maybe an alternative to the UK if I may suggest could be Australia.
