Osun 2026: Underaged students brought for PVC registration but we didn't register them - INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Osun State, on Monday said it refused to register some underage secondary school students brought for voters card registration in Ede North local government area of Osun State.

The social media was awash over the weekend as image surfaced showing some students with school uniform at one of the voters registration point in Ede. The picture was said to have been taken on Friday.

Reacting to the outcry, INEC in a statement by Musa Olurode, its public relations officer, admitted the presence of the students but said the commission refused to register them in line with extant laws guiding election in the country.

INEC EXPOSES UNDER AGE IN EDE

Osun people are wise now because they will not tolerate what really happened in the 2022 gubernatorial elections in Osun state. The electorates voted against the time stipulated. Where the people of Ede carried rechargeable lighter lights to vote till midnight.

It is disgusting to allow underge students to register for the ongoing vote registration. It is unacceptable to have happened in Ede where Mr. Governor came from. There is no way to rig the incoming gubernatorial elections in the state because Ademola Adeleke's defeat is sacrosanct.

Let us call a spade a spade and follow the rules of laws. Mr. Governor does not need to induce his students to vote for him when they are underage. It has that Ademola Adeleke cannot withstand the doggedness and sagacity of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO. AMBO has become a giant for the other contestants. Let us come down, AMBO will emerge victoriously...

Oyetola’s Aide Blasts Adeleke Over Collapse of Healthcare in Osun, Accuses Governor of Ineptitude, Dereliction of Duty

Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, has launched a blistering attack on Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of gross ineptitude, dereliction of duty, and the wholesale collapse of primary healthcare and public education across the state.

In a statement he issued on Sunday, the Minister’s aide, Bolaji Akinola, described the current state of Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in Osun as a damning indictment of Governor Adeleke’s administration, stressing that no serious government would still be blaming a predecessor more than three years after assuming office.

According to the Minister’s aide, Dr. Oyetola left behind a functional system and a clear development trajectory, noting that the immediate past Governor of the State performed excellently in office, particularly in healthcare reforms, workers’ welfare, and institutional strengthening.

“What Osun people are witnessing today is not inherited failure, but the direct product of Adeleke’s incompetence and lack of capacity to govern,” the statement said. “Healthcare in Osun has deteriorated rapidly under his watch, while his inept and underperforming Commissioner for Health, Jola Akintola, appears more interested in issuing excuses than delivering results.”

The Minister’s aide noted that despite huge financial resources and statutory allocations available to the state since Adeleke assumed office over three years ago, PHCs remain abandoned, poorly staffed, and ill-equipped, while rural communities are left without access to basic medical care.

He added that the situation in public education is equally dire, with acute shortages of teachers across schools in the state, overcrowded classrooms, and declining learning standards, describing it as a complete reversal of gains made under the Oyetola administration.

“The present government of Osun State has destroyed both the healthcare and education systems it inherited,” the statement declared. “Instead of governance, Osun now has a circus of theatrics, blame-shifting, propaganda, and administrative laziness.”

Akinola further pointed to a growing wave of public anger and dissatisfaction across Osun State, saying residents in every part of the state are united in frustration over what he called the “Adeleke’s failure to justify being in the government house for three years.”

“Osun people are yearning for change,” he said. “They are tired of excuses, tired of media stunts, and tired of an administration that has nothing tangible to show for over three years in office.”

He warned that no amount of misinformation or attempts to scapegoat former officials would save Ademola Adeleke from the political consequences of his record.

“Come August 8, Adeleke will face the people, Akinola stated. “And the verdict will be clear and brutal: the worst electoral defeat of his political life — earned squarely by his own ineptitude and failure to govern.”

This is the reason the North will always be ahead of us when it comes to registered voters number and election in general.
To them anything that relates to election is taken as a real BUSINESS, Hence they give it everything it takes.

We are still learning this politics and we are not learning fast.

Have you ever seen any Northern state raising this kind of noise about under aged voters registration, meanwhile no one does it as much as they do.

I was a voters registration officer in one of the Northen states in 2007.
I was so furious to see how they were bringing underaged Children as small as 9, 10, 11 for registration.
I stood my ground that I would not register them. Because it was just morally wrong. There was so much commotion and chaos , yet I refused, not until news got to the local government electoral officer who came down to pacify and persuade me to do whatever the people wanted if I love my life and I wish to leave there alive.

Note that this electoral officer herself is a Northerner o.

We are not ready in the south here.
Na to dey make noise we sabi.

Lol... Which Healthcare has been destroyed in Osun?

The same Adeleke that introduced solar power to all primary health centres in the state?

You can only lie to people not living in osun state, and thank God they won't be the ones to vote.
Re: Osun: Underaged Students Brought For PVC Registration in Ede - Inec by carzeem1: 3:18pm On Feb 10
Bloody joke. What prerequisite document does inec request before issuing a voter card.
This is just a sensational report.

If they present a birth certificate stating thier age, what reason does inec have to deny them Thier right? Is inec aware secondary school students have ages older than 18 years.

All this partisan issinuation won't do inec any good but heat up the polity. All the Ibrahim and Mohammed getting registered in the north without birth certificates or proof of citizenship of Nigeria or chad or Niger, nobody raises any eyebrow. Rubbish report!
