SENATE STICKS WITH ELECTRONIC AND MANUAL TRANSMISSION OF ELECTION RESULTS

Senate has amended votes and proceedings of its plenary sitting last week Wednesday 4th February, with regards to its resolutions on the provisions of section 60 sub 3 in the electoral act amendment bill.

The motion moved by the Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Tahir Monguno and endorsed by the Senate is with regards to transmission of election results from polling units.

Following the motion, senate adopts electronic means for the transmission of election results, but should there be a communication glitch that leads to failure of delivery by the electronic means, the form EC8, which contains the results at polling unit, duely entered on the form, stamped and signed by the election officer and counter signed by the various agents shall be the primary source of collation.

After the vote on the motion, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe moved a counter motion calling for a division, that is individual voting on the section 60 sub 3.

He however withdrew the motion after the Senate President Godswill Akpabio asked him to proceed.

Input electoral data and submit result sheets of all PUs to the iRev in real time. If you like, you can take hard copy to the INEC office the next month.

If Tinubu wins elections through this process, nobody would bother challenging his victory in court

They should make it mandatory to transmit electronically for polling places already known to have network.
And manual for places known over the years without network.

We can begin from there.

—What is your definition of real time? 5min, 1hr?

—Anambra governorship election that was done recently had all the result sheets uploaded on IREV portal. Does that count as real time or not?

—If there is server breakdown or issues and they can’t get some of those result on IREV, what will happen? Outright cancellation of result?

When you create law, ensure it is something that is feasible. You’re voting manually on paper, how do you expect real time witn that?

They should restructure INEC and start electronic voting. Like that you don’t need any paper and you can transmit result live.
