I Could Be Arrested Anytime, Says El-Rufai by treesun(op): 5:48pm On Feb 11
Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government may arrest him.

El-Rufai, a chieftain of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), also alleged that political pressure is forcing some politicians to defect to the ruling APC or remain within it.

He stated this in an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday.

The former governor, who has recently stepped up his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the APC under which he was governor for eight years, said although he has not yet been arrested, some of his close associates have been detained.

“Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested; so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” El-Rufai said.

His comments come amid the arrest and ongoing trial of Nigeria’s former Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami, who remains in custody.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused Malami of offenses including abuse of office and money laundering.

Authorities later rearrested him, alleging involvement in terrorism financing.

Malami, regarded as a key figure in opposition to President Tinubu, has denied all allegations describing them as political witch-hunt after he defected from APC to ADC.

We are witnessing the making of Nigeria's own Paul Biya but some will prefer to continue to bury their heads in the sand. They never hated Abacha, they were just envious of him. They have since surpassed him in all vices.

Yahaya Bello is in Saudi Arabia while Okowa is a renewed hope ambassador for Southsouth region. The law is not whatever Tinubu says it is.

El Rufai knew he is in trouble for the atrocities he committed while in office in Kaduna state.

Clear conscience fear no accusations.

Maybe he has Intel the US is on his trail.

He should just brace up to what is to come.

Mr Rufai, it won't be funny 🤣.

One of your masters in on the trail of the US.

Asiwaju must have supplied them with all necessary intelligence to get him nailed.

If he personally come for him, people like you will cry witch hunting.

El Rufai is in trouble 😵‍💫.

Were they? I wasn't aware. Last I checked, the EFCC chairman promised to resign if he fails to jail Yahaya Bello while nothing has been heard about Okowa since he defected to the APC. But know this clearly, Nigeria will never become a one-party state. We know all this is borne out of fear but 2027 is inevitable.

Okay, keep the Confessions coming. So it was Asiwaju that supplied the U.S with the "intelligence?" We thought as much ever since he refused to defect to APC. Was that the deal he struck with the U.S to have them site a military base in Nigeria?

Let me be the first person to break the news to you, no mortal can remove Asiwaju come 2027.

He will complete his terms.

No Nigeria president elected since 1999 has spent only four years except Yar'dua who spent less because of death.

Even Goodluck, as weak as he was, won in 2011.

Yes, anything to get ride of non state actors is welcomed.

One of the main reasons some people want a change of president is security.

Economy is stable, in infrastructure we have never had it better in less than 3 years and in education most especially tertiary is being funded by the federal government.

Okay o. Continue with the snake oil merchandising. We are lapping it up! The much touted revenue are all a ruse. We are still implementing 3 budgets with MDAs massively underfunded. Where are the monies going to? Tinubu is saving up for 2027.

Tinubu has taken the sinless redeemed saints template of Oshiomole's Assembly of Past Criminals, APC to extra levels, as long as you remain loyal to him as the godfather.

chisomkachy:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the alleged money laundering suit it filed at the Federal High Court against Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Naija News understands that the anti-graft did not give any particular reason for its application for withdrawal.

Following the application to withdraw, Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the ‘lien/Post No Debit’ placed on Obasa’s three accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.

The accounts are (US Dollars) 0001852063; (Current) 0001852056 and (Saving) 5002309624.

The judge also set aside the ex-parte orders he made on September 15, 2020, which led to the freezing of the accounts.

Recall that the court on September 15, 2020, granted an interim order freezing Obasa’s accounts following the EFCC’s application in a suit marked FHC/LCS/1064/2020.

The agency had said it was investigating the Speaker for the alleged offences of conspiracy, diversion of funds, abuse of office and money laundering.

But Justice Oweibo, on August 16, 2023, heard the application to unfreeze the accounts in his chamber.

During the hearing, the EFCC was represented by Mr. Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, while Obasa was represented by Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).

The EFCC lawyer told the court that the application to unfreeze the accounts was pursuant to Section 44(2)(K) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Sections 26, 29 and 34 (1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

Section 44 of the Constitution concerns constitutional rights to property.

Justice Oweibo held: “It is hereby ordered that an order is hereby granted to the respondent/applicant setting aside the ex-parte orders of this court made on the 15th day of September 2020 upon the ex-parte motion of the Applicant/ Respondent in relation the funds of the Respondent/Applicant domiciled in the accounts stated in the following schedule:

“ACCOUNT NAME, FINANCIAL ACCOUNT INSTITUTIONS, TYPE OF ACCOUNT, 1. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered, (US Dollars) 0001852063 2. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Current) 0001852056 3. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Saving) 5002309624.

“Issued at Lagos, under the seal of this Honourable Court and by the hands of the Presiding Judge this 16th day of August 2023.”

Maxymilliano:
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained why he delegated some members of the party to respond to questions posed to him.
According to the former Lagos Governor, he adopted the delegation method “to show team-ship”.

Tinubu spoke at the Chatham House lecture titled: ‘Nigeria’s 2023 elections: In conversation with Bola Ahmed Tinubu’, monitored by The Nation.

At the lecture, Tinubu after his opening remarks, assigned Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai to speak on how his (Tinubu-led) government would address insecurity and asked the Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Aleke, to respond to the question on oil theft.
