Muller and Cruyf were 1970s and Maradona 1980s.

Should have been Muller,Backenbauer and Cruyf.

Zidane generation was the best. The qualities from defense to attack from different teams both club and country. Then individual awards was merited.

Messi and Ronaldo would be average during this era.

For longevity I will give it to the Messi and Ronaldo era but Zidane and Ronaldinho's era were pure football artistry and the amount of competitive players then were second to none.
Messi and Ronaldo had few competitors like Hazard and Neymar which fizzled out quickly compare to them Henry, Totti, Del Pierro, Nedved, Beckham, Inzaghi, Nistelrooy, Drogba, Gerard, Scholes, Okocha, Kanu, Raul, Figo, Crespo, Trezequet, Viera, Rivaldo, Keane and co to compete with them Zidane.
Not to talk of rugged defenders of that era like Maldini, Stam, Nesta, Zanetti, Carlos, Cafu, Taribo, Terry, Calvalho, Vidic, Campbell, Effenberg, Kuffour and co.
Infact Zidane's generation was the best.

The Diego Maradona, Pele, Socrates, Zico, Falcao, Serginho, etc, generation that played right from the late 1970s through to the early 1990s is still the BEST generation to me in terms of pure skills in the field of play. The German machine (German soccer team) that existed when Pele and Diego Maradona played also brought a lot of class into world soccer.

Forget about nostalgia, a lot of you might be tempted to pick zizou, dinho and R9 generation.

If you really watch and understand football, you'd agree Messi , CR7 and neymar was the better, more talented generation. Above all, they achieved more. We might, just might never see footballers like those again. They don't have to retire before you fully recognize their greatness.

I hate when ppl use the word nostalgia carelessly the ppl saying R9 and Zizou have a very solid point because their era was more competitive just say u started watching ball recently the only thing Messi's generation has over Zidane's is consistency but every other aspect Dem no reach I'm talking as a messi fan
