Afterots of arguments and delays, we finished all exterior projects.

These contractors were in the habit of engaging themselves in multiple projects and would disappear from time to time leaving your project hanging. I could not stand it. So, I started delaying payments too. They streeeeeeessed me out ehn? Shegey! I could not meet ANY DEADLINES!

Payment made for labor before work started.

Can’t attach pictures no more. Abi somebody nor like them? cheesy

It's still me. B0t banned my first account.

I seriously need to leave this country angry

But how did you leave the country ma? Was it when things were good and travelling abroad was cheap? Or your hubby took you there?

Sorry if I'm asking too much.. just curious to know so i can rightfully plan my exit πŸ™πŸ™
I went as a student when education was affordable for parents like mine who did not have government money to steal. I quickly enrolled ad a nursing student. After graduating, a hospital hired me and filed for my residency. It was really easy then. We did the same for one of my nieces born in Nigeria. Now she is working as a nurse and the hospital has filed for her residency status.

Nobody imported me and I did not import any groom. Met my hubby here in the states.

Now, it is too uncertain and expensive. The requirements are tougher.

4. Interlocking and kerb stones installation
5. Screeding of all buildings and fences

7. Roof repairs and installation
8. Water collector installation in all buildings
9. Mosquito net repair and installation
10. Exterior plumbing repair with new pumping machine
11. Gutter construction on the lowest side of the compound
12. Cutting and trimming tree and flower beds
13. Planting of grasses and flowers in green areas.
14. NEPA Meter installation for 5 apartments.

INTERIOR PROJECTS:
1. POP ceiling

Re: Is It Worth Renovating Your Village Home In Nigeria? by KanwuliaExtra:
The best part of the project was the tiling. It gave the home a brand new look.πŸ‘πŸ½

I had to travel to Benin to get whatever I could not get locally.

Not everyone wants to live in Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt. If you cannot build your home in YOUR OWN HOME STATE, your choice.

I will NEVER develop another man’s state of Origin. 🍷

My aunt and her husband built a fantastic property in Delta State. Oh boy! My power nor reach for hia o. grin She his a nurse too. Her husband na IT guru.

Nice. 12 FULLY furnished flats.

They have THREE children that have NEVER been to Nigeria.

I do not like curtains made of cloth.❌

Maintenance issues?
During the rainy season, the interlocking stones turned green in some areas. So
I had more stone dust added and did not remove the stone dust.βœ…

My brother was a born out of wedlock AND my cousin was also born out of wedlock’.

This is how it finally went down. My cousin as the β€œsenior” handled all the projects initially, since my β€œnew brother” did not know our village at all. He had NEVER been there.

As soon as I found my cousin cheating and making so many mistakes, I let my brother handle most of the projects. Then my brother got to know his way around town and STARTED CHEATING TOO!βœ…

Time for painting.

Painter #1.
The first painter said he produced paint and i gave him N400K to make 20 buckets of paint.
I was charged N37K FOR EACH 10L bucket(NOT 20L). shocked

The painting job was disastrous! Rain fell and washed away the fake mixture. I was soooooo mad. I fired the painter instantly.

Painter#2
My brother did not allow ny cousin to go with him.
My brother handled the painting project.

The painter knew I would buy all materials and decided to inflate his estimate.

Welcome back Ma'am and put your safety first oh.

Re: Is It Worth Renovating Your Village Home In Nigeria? by Kanwulia(op):
We bought paint from an unknown vendor.
My brother and the 2nd painter ganged up and over charged me with an unknown vendor in town. My brother swore the paints were from Benin. So I decided to send my cousin to Benin and asked for the address. My brother and the paint could not provide the address. grin

That was how I caught my brother stealing.βœ…

So I sent my cousin to my own vendor in Benin WITHOUT my brother the price difference was HUGE.😱

Let me just say I was duped over N500K!

After all the wahala, I placed both my brother and cousin on suspension and hired STRANGERS to chop my money instead.βœ…

Got rid of the old tenants and new tenants have moved in.

PROBLEM?

People passing by, especially school children started staining the walls with their fingers. When β€œOga APC” is having his parties, the whole village will queue outside to beg for free food and drinks. The kerbs outside the fence were used as sitting areas. The newly-planted walls had all kinds stains all over. Very annoying. sad

If you never lived outside Nigeria, Nigeria can never frustrate you. After living abroad for aliver 30 years and then was FORCED to live in Nigeria even with ALL THE MONEY I CAN’T SPEND IN A LIFETIME, I would rather drink hemlock and end it all. That nor be country abeg. NA ZOOOOOOOOO!!!!

If you EVER LIVED, NOT JUST VISITED ABROAD, you will understand why Nigeria can NEVER be a country!❌
You're so lucky.

Have you gone back or still in Nigeria?
Re: Is It Worth Renovating Your Village Home In Nigeria? by futurestiles: 3:07pm On Feb 12
Kanwulia:
Then I looked at cement tiles.
Problem? Getting the kind of molds for the tiles and the number of molding pans. I had to go to Ibadan or Onitsha to BUY OVER 500 molding pans. What would I do with them when I finished the work?

No contractor kept the kind or number of cement mold tiles I wanted. They stated they would lose money if they stored such large quantities of molds and because those have to be ordered specially. This was not possible. Buying ready-made tiles was too expensive. About N6,000-N10,000 per box of 6-12?

Cost of transportation would be expensive for these bulky items.

My proposed coverage area was about 1,600 Sq Meters.

Solution:

Cement tiles and designer tiles differ mainly in material, manufacturing process, appearance, and maintenance. Cement tiles are made from cement, sand, pigments, and water, and are usually handmade using molds without being fired in a kiln. They have a natural matte finish and give a traditional or classic look, but they can absorb water and stains if not properly sealed, so they require more maintenance. On the other hand, designer tiles are generally made from ceramic, vitrified, or porcelain materials and are machine-made and fired at high temperatures. They come in a wide variety of colors, patterns, textures, and finishes such as glossy, matte, marble-look, or wood-look. Designer tiles are more water-resistant, easier to clean, and require less maintenance compared to cement tiles, making them a popular choice for modern homes and interiors.
