The West weaponissed those apps. Using them to gather information and to work against the governments of their rivals. It is unfortunate.

Having lived in China when all these apps were working and watching the Chinese authorities block every single one of them including Google , yahoo, YouTube and Facebook, I never knew there will be a day I will call the Chinese administrators "genuises".

I mean they read the minds of the Americans as far back as the late 90s and early 2000s. Everyone thought they were overreacting and paranoid with the bans, but after all Elon Musk did with his StarLink in the war between Ukraine and Russia, you have to be dumb as a president not to take actions..

Think big, it doesn’t only cut off the west it cuts off their citizens from the world, breaks up family communications, ends businesses etc.

People do business on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook etc. it can be monitored or regulated. Outrightly discontinuing the service leads to a loss of billions to those who do business online these apps.

Perhaps they believe the rest of the world should download a Russian app including Iran, China and North Korea which are their allies only on paper.

Those with nefarious intentions can always create their own apps we-hate-America-chat, kill infidels app, what ever rocks their boats. For regular people they share information responsibly.

Dumb talk.....China that has banned most of those apps are progressing and not retrogressing..... National security should be paramount to any serious country.
