Judiciary Is Biggest Threat To Nigeria’s Democracy – Peter Obi by adenigga(m): 2:02am On May 18
Presidential Candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has described the judiciary as the biggest danger to democracy in Nigeria.

Obi stated that there has been a decline in the judiciary, stressing that the problem of the country is not the electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The former Anambra State Governor made this known during the fifth memorial of late Justice Anthony Aniagolu at the Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.

Obi said there is an urgent need for revitalisation of the Nigerian judiciary, saying all other institutions depend on it for the country to thrive.

He said: “While the judiciary, today, still boasts of a few outstanding judges, there is an undeniable decline in our judicial system. This decline poses a significant threat to the future of Nigeria. Justice is increasingly commodified, and delivered in favour of the highest bidder.

“Whenever democracy is discussed, fingers point to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the problem.

“But INEC is not the problem. Instead, the judiciary is. The judiciary is the biggest threat to Nigeria. If our judiciary is effective, our businesses will thrive.”

Speaking about the rule of law, the ex-governor said, “When the rule of law is compromised, the most vulnerable members of society are disproportionately affected. And the fabric of our society begins to fray. The integrity of our institutions, the protection of human rights, and the stability of our nation are all jeopardised.

“The rule of law is the highest intangible and most valuable asset of any society. And we must work tirelessly to protect and preserve it. We must prioritise the pursuit of justice above all else.

“I emphasised the urgent need to revitalise our judicial system by safeguarding its independence and promoting the values of character, competence, capability, compassion, and integrity among our jurists, as well as within our political leadership.

“By doing so, we can ensure justice and fairness prevail as we endeavour to build a better Nigeria for all.

“Nigeria has become a country where anything goes. There is no rule of law and almost no judiciary. Everybody could be pushed down because there is no rule of law.

“Because the judiciary has become commercialised and depends on how much one pays, it has become difficult to get true justice in the judiciary. At any point in time where the judiciary is not working, the society suffers.”

The system has now become so bad that even ordinary security agencies have no regards for them. Today's judiciary is just an apandage of the Executive, unlike what was obtainable few years ago..

I read where DSS stormed court to arrest someone, despite the Judge's instruction not to arrest him, they threw his instructions under the bus and skewed away with their target.. The judiciary allowed themselves to be used by politicians, that's why nobody has regards for them anymore

Those celebrating the impunity going on in the judiciary today might go back to the same judiciary which ought to be the last hope for common man to get justice, but they won't get what they wish..

It's just a matter of time...

The same Judiciary this same Peter Obi benefited from that made him Supreme court governor for 8 years

Is there any politicians in Nigeria practicing hypocrisy the way Peter Obi is doing? I doubt

A man that can't stand by his own words.

Saying Peter Obi can never be Nigeria president is not out of hatred, Peter Obi don't just have the quality/character of a president.

Imagine someone who made some statements just some days ago oo, within that same week, he has contradicted his own self out of desperation.

When the Judicial favoured him, it was good, but when it didn't favour him, it's now bad and rotten..

The earlier Peter Obi realized he can never be Nigeria president as he doesn't even have any tangible achievements to show for it, the better for him and his supporters.

Political leadership of this country really hold this country hostage through the judiciary.

That's why after 20+ years of democracy, the status quo remains. There's never been a major reform to reconfigure the system to work for all.

You people are always looking for others to blame, but refuse to change yourself. You break traffic rules, litter the streets with your rubbish and total have no regard for your neighbours. Yet you want a magical politician to come from above and change Nigeria. Dream on!

The biggest threat to the Nigerian Judiciary is PETER OBI and his Ilk, who never sees anything good in anything that does not favour them directly. Imagine someone who benefitted from the Judiciary to become Governor and rigged his way into second term now calling the judiciary names!

I am really surprised he is now absolving INEC, which he made all his followers and a chunk of the entire world believe was manned by a league of a thousand AI Demons (who all conspired to write synchronized fake results nationwide within 36 hours of the 2023 presidential elections)! I guess he has been told how ridiculous it is to continue denigrating INEC, who is being hired by our neighbouring countries to help them conduct and structure their electoral systems and continually receiving accolades for jobs well done!

OBIdense is the bitterest electoral contestant I have ever known! He continues to constitute a clear and present danger to the Nigerian democratic structures by spreading propaganda that is making gullible Nigerians distrust and lose hope in the system.
